Destructoid's footage of controversial attorney Jack Thompson's recent dressing-down by Miami-Dade County Judge Ronald Friedman is a pretty amazing piece of video.
According to Destructoid's podcast, that set of papers was JT's bail order. He seriously thought he was going to jail, and had prepared his response to the order that was never given.
Oh, and respect for the court & process my skinny white arse. He interrupted the judge several times, once to demand the bailiff hand the judge the bail order that wasn't needed.

I believe he was mumbling to Niero, something to the effect of "Let's go have the real hearing out here." I guess we'll see when Niero posts Part Deux.

The most bizarre thing is that Jack kept tryign to argue his original case, when the hearing wasn't abotu that. He never really defended himself on contempt of court charges at all and, in fact, kept trying to argue it after Friedman recused himself. Unhinged was the word that came to mind.

Arcadia,
Actually, I think Bostwick did a decent job in the Law & Order series. While Bostwick's voice makes him sound more.... uh, reasonable.... than John Bruce, the Bostwick character was pretty close doing the crazy ideas justice. But the voice made Bostwick sound more rational than John Bruce.

Andrew: Actually I found the quiet calm tones of the Judge to be the Calm centre of the courtroom in which Jack was treating like crap, shouting, shuffling papers, avoiding looking at the judge... actually he reminds me of a schoolboy after being told off by teacher. Maybe he should have brought his slingshot back into court :>
I still cannot believe someone would act that way in a courtroom. Look at the T2 lawyers and compare their level of professional behaviour to Jack's.
One thing by the way. Are you allowed by law to video courtroom scenes in the US then? In the UK you cannot and cant even take photos which is why we have the courtroom artists who go in, have a good look around at a scene and then leave so they can sketch the scene outside. Camera usage by the public would results in a contempt of court charge I believe.

Disregard my last post, I had more time at home than I thought. About the video, I wasn't laughing, but for the most part I was crying. Crying tears of boredom. Court proceedings, it appears, are even more mundane than I could have ever imagined. I couldn't even understand most of what they were saying. I hope Destructoid posts a transcript.

I think Thompson pulled out one of my pet peeves during this hearing. Just yesterday I was laying into a professional football player that I actually like who did a press conference and said something to the effect of "I'm not the type of guy to tell the media I don't get the ball enough, but you know how it is". That's basically saying I called this press meeting about me not getting the football to explain that I'm not the type of guy to call a press media to talk about me not getting the ball enough.
Here (I think, audio fuzzy), Thompson says something to the effect of: I would never disrespect this/your office, but the way you handled this suit was something something. I doubt something something equaled 'best ever!!!'.

How un professional is that man. He looks like a little kid been told off. When he starts shifting through his papers he just looks like the most unproffesional person in the world.
He should look at this and feel ashamed that he acted in such a childish way

In the US, Video is permitted unless there is a legal order prohibiting it. In Canada, recording devices are prohibited as well, with the exeption of the stenographer and sketch artist.
what a fucking douchenozzle. The kind of ignorant hate-mongering this man spouts has no place in this world.
What an immature, ignorant, bloated bag of hate. I really dont like that man.
"i have respect for the office that you hold." He says that after hes rolling his head around, fidgeting with papers and stuff while the judge is talking. I have ADD, and i could be more still than that.

While it was incredibly entertaining, I wouldn't call it 'an amazing piece of video.' I could hardly hear anything through the noise and judge's soft tones, and when the phone went off it felt like rugburn for my eardrums.
(granted, there wasn't a whole lot niero could've done about noise+volume)
Still, Jack was a class act. Raising the sign, pouting like a child and "arranging his papers" when the judge talked him down... it was brilliant. We've seen him argue on so many "forums" and "debate shows" it was great to finally have him not interrupting and ranting until it was actually his turn.

@Jabrwok
Huh, he thought he was going to jail? I think that's how he wanted it to go. He imagines himself a martyr. He was bound and determined to start a scene.
That's what Niero said. I guess he figured it would turn out to be a big battle of wills, and he'd better have all his paperwork ready for when the judge "violates his civil rights".
Too bad for him the judge pre-empted him by reclusing, but with a parting shot of filing the complaint with the Bar. ;)
-- If your wiimote goes snicker-snack, check your wrist-strap...
The fun part is he'll have to show up in court again, and with a new judge, and he can't pull a "you're just trying to protect yourself" argument. Although I'm sure he'll try to imply the new judge is just as corrupt as Friedman. And I'll bet he does it before the judge makes his ruling too. Nothing like figuratively spitting in the face of an official when you're trying to convince him to go easy on you...

About the second video.
It just seems there's nothing Jack loves more than to twist things so that he's always right. What sort of worries me is that his arugments almost sound credible to those who aren't in the know about the trial or the game in question. As for that time he got arrested, I fail to see the need to bring that up. A parking violation is a perfectly honest mistake. Oh well, I shouldn't be suprised that Jack would say all that for Destructoid's interview, considering how self-absorbed he comes off as.
Also, while this has nothing to do with the trial, I love that Destructoid opened the video to the theme music of the Terminator films. That music always gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. :)

The judge was a little soft-spoken, but he had the right idea. At the very least, he was calm, and he did not allow himself to be bullied by Jack- he knew his place, and used it to get Jack to stay in his.
