Already facing a hearing on several allegations of professional misconduct, controversial attorney Jack Thompson is once again in trouble with the Florida Bar.GamePolitics has learned that a complaint filed by the Miami judge who oversaw last October's Bully suit has been upheld by the Florida Bar. The complaint was subsequently filed with the Florida Supreme Court, which in turn has assigned it to a Miami judge for trial. If the complaint is upheld at that level Thompson could face professional sanctions.
The Bar's action is based on a complaint filed against Thompson last November by Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Ronald Friedman. It addresses Thompson's conduct during the anti-game attorney's unsuccessful bid to have Rockstar's Bully declared a public nuisance. In the photo at left, Thompson is seen in Judge Friedman's courtroom during the Bully case.
In its complaint, the Bar alleges that Thompson made statements about Judge Friedman's qualifications and integrity that were false or made with "a reckless disregard as to (their) truth." The Bar also maintains that Thompson made statements about Friedman in an attempt to "disparage or humiliate" and intimidate the jurist. Thompson's comments cited in the 15-page complaint include:
What you conducted in your chambers, Judge, was the equivalent of Iran leading UN weapons inspectors around the country taking them places where the illegal activity was not occurring.
The behavior of this judge was abominable. which was made all the worse by the fact that he engaged in these childish antics in front of the media in the courtroom.
Here's a tip, Judge, I don't just practice law. I save lives from reckless jurists like you.

The Bar also alleges that Thompson ignored a requirement to respond to the Bar's investigation of the complaint filed by Judge Friedman. Asked for comment, Thompson told GP:
I will beat it, just as I am about to beat all the others.
Norm Kent, a Fort Lauderdale attorney and longtime legal opponent of Thompson's said:
For those of us that have tirelessly opposed Mr. Thompson's unprofessional conduct and disgraceful behavior, the latest Florida Bar complaint represents a vindication of our efforts.
According to the Florida Supreme Court docket, Judge Dava Tunis of the 11th Judicial Circuit has been appointed to hear the case. Judge Tunis' report is due by September 17th.
For his part, Thompson filed a federal lawsuit against the Florida Bar last week, alleging a pattern of harassment based on Thompson's long-running battles against shock radio and video game violence.

Getting this guy to shut the hell up is actually a good thing for the "anti-game" movement as well. He underscores the image problem they currently have- fundamentalist old people with little grip on reality. Hell, the man has more in common with the Taliban than anything.
If the anti game movement can actually come off as sane, reasonable people then their agendas would be taken more seriously. Its much easier to shoot down legislation when its backed by a lunatic.
I can just see it now. His white hair frizzy and looking all crazy standing up, his glasses off making him look tired with squinty eyes, and a blank empty expression on his face as he stares into the camera taking his mug shot while wearing a messy business suit with the collar undone. Later his comment on the situation will be that he was "Saving lives, protecting children, and purging the world of evil." Then I expect him to follow that up with "Where's my medal of honor?!"

Just for shits, I DID look it up. And while it didn't mention kissing specifically, it did say it could refer to an act meant to cause sexual arousal. But I don't believe for one minute that's what Jack was implying when he made his claim. He knew damn well anyone reading his claim would equate his sex comment with intercourse. That's being purposefully vague in order to further his own baseless agenda.
And the message is still clear. Jack thinks same-sex kissing is obscene. He's a homophobe, plain and simple.
I am a lawyer, although not called in the State of Florida, so I am not at all sure of the procedure. I can comment on the goal of the matter.
Basically the Bar is the body that regulates lawyers. It holds a monopoly in a state. In other words, to practice law, one must be a member of the Bar. It also self governs - and that means that the Bar is tasked with regulating the behavior of its members. This is generally done through a 'Code of Conduct'. This Code sets out guidelines on how a lawyer is to practice law, run his/or her business, and how they are to behave in a professional capacity (such as in a courtroom).
The underlying foundation of the Code is to instill and maintain a public 'faith' in the legal system. The overall rule is no lawyer can bring the process of justice into disrepute. If a lawyer does so then we risk everyone losing faith in the justice system.
Accusing a lawyer of violating the provisions of the Code is not a simple process. An 'easy' situation would be where the lawyer took money from a trust account. Generally speaking, the rules on this are very concrete: if you do it, you will be disbarred. However, many of the codes of conduct are not as concrete as it would be impossible to list every single possible iteration of behavior.
However, making statements on the integrity of a Judge may get you there if it is found that the statements were unfounded.
The penalties can range from complete disbarrment to suspensions and or fines.

Perhaps so, but I think it'd still be better than him being able to actually practice law. That, and I'm not sure if, he was to be disbarred, the PTC or any other watchdog group, would want him.
For example, the South Park episode where the debate was if their flag was racist. The KKK came out and supported keeping the flag the way it was. Uncle Jimbo then saw the problem; who'd want the KKK on their side? So he and Ned dressed up and snuck into a KKK rally, and told the group to support changing the flag, so that those who think the flag was racist would lose because, again, who'd want the KKK on their side?

I dont understand what the fuzz about gay content is anyway, last time i checked homosexuality wasnt seen as a perversion or as itself as a SEXUAL act at all (note i mean homosexuality as a sexual orientation not as the act of having sex)
