WRC-4, Washington D.C.'s NBC affiliate has a video report on the V-Tech Rampage controversy, including footage of Ryan Lambourn, the game's creator, who said:You do it for some negative reaction to laugh at.
Because he's an outsider, its just another scenario for him, for his game. For those of us who are here [and] knew people down in Blacksburg, it's really scary.

Nice troll. I have been trolled. Will be trolled again. Here's a rational response anyway.
I may object to the content of a game, and am more than willing to criticise it for the choice of subject matter, as well as for the quality of the game. However, I am not willing to say that one doesn't have the right to make a game, or that a game should be banned. Their is a fine, but appreciable, difference between stating personal feeling and attempting to force everyone to abide by your opinion. I think that people should make what I believe to be the moral choice and not play games like this. I don't think I should physically or legally attempt to stop them from being made, or played. This applies to many games. For me, it applies to this VT game. For me, it also applies to Manhunt.
I believe that this is the general consensus among people both on this site and in the gaming community at large. It can, however, be difficult to express clearly.
Well I was attempting to be sarcastic. And according to one of his posts he is British. He refers to the Prime Minister and the Queen.
And if you are saying you don't make generalizations at all you are lying to yourself. We all generalize at least a little. If we didn't, we couldn't tell jokes or make a hypothesis. It's all part of the Human condition. Kinda sad, even I admit that, but it's true.
"I was thinking of referring to the fact that he must be a European, more precisely a Frenchman. We all know how the French are. Then, I realized that I’m part French (just a little) and that is kind of a stain on me to lump him with me".
You do realize that this broad assumption and generalization lumps you with him more than being part french if he happens to be?

This guy is right on !
Your the same crowd that say games never killed anybody or influenced anybody and say shit about Jack Thompson then come out with this bullshit outrage, hypocrits."
I read this post at work right before I left. The whole drive, I was thinking of what to say about this asshat.
I was thinking of referring to the fact that he must be a European, more precisely a Frenchman. We all know how the French are. Then, I realized that I'm part French (just a little) and that is kind of a stain on me to lump him with me.
I was thinking of pointing out the complete lack of cases in which video games have jumped off the shelves and mauled people to death. Or admitting that video games can influence an individual, but no more than a movie, book (like say... the Bible or Quran?), or a dog (Son of Sam, anyone?).
I was thinking of pointing out that anyone who sympathizes or defends Jack "Massacre Chaser" Thompson has obviously lost their mind. Perhaps too protected from the real world, that they don't realize that most people are responsible for their own actions.
But just now, I got home, sat down and reread his post. It's full of grammatical errors and misspelled words. Just like his idol, he can't proofread anything before he submits it. If this is another of our critics, we are fine. They will just make themselves look like fools in the public square. I may be a lot. But I'd like to think I'm not a hypocrit. Whatever that is...
True...BUT whose to say that someone wont do something because of your actions.....*wink wink*
go back to bed, jack... and don't you come back no more.
What do our claims that video games don't cause people to kill have to do with our opinions of Ryan Lambourn and his game?
Eheh, no, we aren't hypocrites, as we have no problem this guy made the game ,our problem is with the content.
I think the opposite may occur though (if this actually became a big story, which it isnt). It could make people realise that the cats out of the bag. Any kid can make an offensive game and distribute it on the net, theres no way you can stop that. And it shows how responsible video game companies are by comparison.
This sort of reminds me of prohibition. You regulate an industry too much and you just create a black market, where theres no standards at all.
Agreed. The maker of SCRPG at least is eloquent, and rather in-depth about his views. Even if the game was in "bad taste", he does make a pretty good point with it -- the point he was trying to make. His work definitely falls more into the category of art. The maker of VTech Rampage... he's just childish and immature, going for his 15 minutes of fame.
Is that you JT? How'd you get in here?
Your the same crowd that say games never killed anybody or influenced anybody and say shit about Jack Thompson then come out with this bullshit outrage, hypocrits.
Take a look at that for an actually interview with the guy. It appears I could be right about what I said. At least I think. He's sounds like such an asshole who is trying to grab attention.
All in all, I'm not really in favor, out of favor, or neutral on what that demented kid has made a game from. I'm kind of undecided but lean strongly towards out of favor because it is getting attention based off of a horrible tragedy and he should be banned from Newgrounds and if it is possible in some sort of way, jailed. This is just atrocious that someone would do this.
My biggest problem is that this will tear down the gamer and game industry image another notch. As if we don't already have numerous parental organizations and politicians riding high off of making us look like violent people with no lives and sick in the head, then this idiots helps give them confirmation of that despite the fact we aren't all like that. It almost makes me want to smack him because my image as a gamer could potentially be ruined by this moron.
I'm sorry but this guy needs help...
I disagree. Calling him a game designer is like calling a man farting on a snare drum a musician.
And I agree with your second sentance - he's an immature loser for sure, but wishing death on him is silly at best. At worst, it makes gamers look like monsters. Cut it out, folks.
Met a few of those when I was MUDding. Don't miss them very much nowadays :)

And I wish certain people on this forum would stop wishing him death. That's just childish.
Ugh.
"My brother and I knew a kid like him. He would constantly taunt this one overweight girl on the bus over and over and over again,"
Ditto, only he was taunting this kid with "lol faggot" and kept trying to trip him. After a year of this, the kid snapped, grabbed him by the throat and slammed him into a locker. Right in front of the vice-principal...
Fortunately, the VP had heard complaints about the little shit, and while she gave the kid who snapped a lecture about controlling himself, she sentenced the brat to detention for a month, and weekly sessions with the school counselor.
We knew it wouldn't stop anything, because the brat was just doing it to get a rise out of people, but I think he kept his mouth shut within earshot for at least a few months.
Ah, didn't see that. Thanks.
He heavily reminds me of the kid that Penny Arcade received a letter about.
That's old news.

V-Tech flash creator issues ransom

"ATTENTION ANGRY PEOPLE: I will take this game down from newgrounds if the donation amount reaches $1000 US, i'll take it down from here if it reaches $2000 US, and i (sic) will apologize if it reaches $3000 US."
Of course, since his provider has suspended his website, I'm not sure how he's planning to collect. Guy's just being a jerk, and collecting extra bad karma.
What a freakin douchebag. I hope all that he holds dear is taken away from him in the blink of an eye and then some Aussie bloke who doesn't "think the way he does" beats the piss out of him and leaves him for worm food. Just my opinion...I could be wrong. Nah!
I hope to God this follows him around for the rest of his life. I'd love to know what company would employ him after all this.
I'll take it one step further. He's the guy at school who liked making the remarks that got him bullied, beat up, and otherwise stomped by anyone around him. We all knew at least one person like that.
-P
Nice. Fight fire with fire! He's an insensitive, uncaring person - skin him alive!
Hey pot, this is kettle calling! You around?
Maybe it's wrong of me to make a snap judgment based on someone's voice and mannerisms, but it's pretty clear to me why he got bullied. I got bullied in school as well, but this is the kind of kid who got bullied by other victims and nerds because he just had way of pissing everyone off with his comments and speaches.
While I detest bullying, I can easily envision a scenario where he made some snide or inappropriate comment to a jock or jock's girlfriend and got the snot beat out of him on a daily basis.
Actually, considering his past and current actions, I don't think I'm wrong about my judgment because it's obviously fully supported. It's an insult to hear him labeled as a game designer, he's a prick for his chosen content, and he's a coward for not making himself and his product available to the community. If I had a game portraying a strong message, I'd have my booth set up in public for people to take their fair verbal shots at me. I'd actually pay money to see him do the same.
I'm being serious by the way.
This kid is getting what he wanted. Attention. What a world.
@ Scoops
I agree with your statements in the 2nd paragraph. It really does boil down to the individual and what they believe in. If they don't want to play it, they won't.
