Vaz Lauds Manhunt 2 Decision, Says PS3 Hit Resistance: Fall of Man Should Be Banned Too

Vaz Lauds Manhunt 2 Decision, Says PS3 Hit Resistance: Fall of Man Should Be Banned Too

June 20, 2007
An old foe of Rockstar's Manhunt series has praised the BBFC's decision to ban the game in the U.K.

Labour MP Keith Vaz, who led a campaign against the original Manhunt in 2003, was clearly pleased by yesterday's announcement that Manhunt 2 would not be available for sale in the U.K., calling it an "excellent decision."

According to a report in the Telegraph, Vaz also said that PlayStation 3 shooter Resistance: Fall of Man should be banned as well.

Resistance, of course, has been much in the news of late due to a controversy over its depiction of battle scenes in Manchester Cathedral.

Like I said, Ratchet.
Keith Vaz is a fool. I spent a couple of weeks trying to have a discussion with the guy via email about Bully/Canis Canem Edit, and all I got for my troubles (and a couple of 12-paragraph emails to the guy) was a few lines of "Thank you for your concern, I will do my best to outlaw this horrific entertainment!" form response.

I can't believe he'd ban Resistance because of its in-game architecture, though. That's got to be the dumbest thing I've ever read.
NO. Banning things is bad. Come up with a stronger rating than 18+ and just do with it what Japan does with their Z-rated games - sell them, but keep them under the counter instead of on the shelves. That way, if anybody actually wants to buy them, they can - but they're still kept away from shelves, and not advertised, meaning the average person probably wouldn't bother to ask for a copy. It does hurt sales, but geez, that's the excuse everybody uses.
@aniki21
"I can’t believe he’d ban Resistance because of its in-game architecture, though. That’s got to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read."

I agree with that and if basing his arguement on it thenmaybe he should find a new fake excuse.
Why does he want to ban Resistance, though? Is it back to the cathedral thing, or does he just think it's too violent or something?
Degenerate, anger release respone:
@#$% you. @#$% you, you big, ugly squirrel man hiding things away in his cheeks.
Informed, calm response:
I agree that this is just dumb. If the current ratings aren't appropriate, create a higher rating/better system.
Resistance?

Oh yes - of course using a church as a backdrop is A Bad thing, isnt it? Certainly bad enough to ban it.

Utter twat.
Rockstar should include Vaz as final boss of their next game, portraying him as brutal, bloodthirsty and oppressive dictator (which he dreams of becoming anyway). Now that would be an "excellent decision". Since it would only be a game, he shouldn't be offended. In real life, however, a life sentence would be enough for him, for promoting censorship and repression and degrading UK's democratic ways.
OK, this guy agrees with it? Then we already know its the wrong decision. Someone roll out the cart selling Manhunt 2 and Resistance. We could call it the "Keith Vaz Special". "Buy them both for $99! A great gift!"
A ban on Manhunt I can understand, but not support. A ban on Resistance, however, is purely politically motivated. Vaz is a censorcrat. Better to let him and his ilk die out and be replaced by people who grew up with games, who actually know what they're talking about.
And btw, for those who ask why he wants to ban "Resistance": No dictator likes resistance. Plus, he isn't on Sony's paylist and being greedy as he is, he would shut up if they "motivated" him by filling his pockets.
Seeing how Resistance Fall of Man is an average FPS, if it's banned in the UK, all the FPS will be banned.

Cept if Vaz is getting some sweet MS money, like that company that fought Sony over it's vibration function on the controllers, and he only wants to cripple Sony games...
Sir Vaz, please die.
Castrate the Labour Party. These F@#kwits need to learn that people with common sense are not on their side.
I Think our Current Rating System is Fine. They just cant keep their damn Stories Straight with then ratings. Now unless MH2 Is loaded with Porn, the AO rating isnt really Correct. Hell, they have Flashing Boobs in GoW, but since it was Relevant and Tactful, it got to stay.

I think the Raters were Influenced beforehand.
Whenever I see that picture of him, I always think it makes him look like Porky Pig. I guess it's Dennis' intention to make him look as ridiculous as possible, though.
Thank you guberment man for making decisions on what we should and shouldn't see so we don't have to think for ourselves. Durr Durr.
"Whenever I see that picture of him, I always think it makes him look like Porky Pig. I guess it’s Dennis’ intention to make him look as ridiculous as possible, though."

Well, to use a common British term, the man IS considered to be a complete prick by most people ;)
ok for manhunt 2 is say meh but RESISTANCE!?!?!?
now im pissed!
sorry for double post but i don't think resistence was the only game to feature a church in it. try other games and see how many of them you see with churches
He's in bed with the pastors from the Church of England, as well as the Censorcrat Party.
Sorry for double post.

Aside from all this, I really do feel that there is a lot of political modivation aside from being lined with greyscale lies. How many other games involve churches though? I know that Call of Duty and what not does. You have huge fights in those things and they aren't banned.
@ CaptainZM

A game can also get AO for extreme Violence. Same for NC-17. Try visiting the ESRB and MPAA websites every once in a while.
Vaz says "all aboard the Ban Games Bandwagon!"

Gil Says:
@#$% you. @#$% you, you big, ugly squirrel man hiding things away in his cheeks.

Hahaha, he seems very hamster-like to me in that picture. ;)
Passionless Censorcrat Trash!!!!
That's the problem with the Manhunt 2 ban. It hasn't opened the floodgates for banning games, brought about a new order, or represented a victory for those who campaigned against it... but the anti-gaming lobby is sure as hell going to see it as one.

"The BBFC agrees! Games are teh ebul! Good going, the BBFC!" they cry, casually glossing over the fact that the BBFC gave the evil apocalypse-inducing Columbine simulator Bully a tame 15 rating last year.

The BBFC banned a single game because they concluded it was just too awful to be sold to the public. People on both sides of the argument are seeing the same slippery slope where none exists - it's just that Vaz and his ilk are seeing it more like a waterslide.
People like this will always seek for higher pulpits to preach their own personal morality from, it doesn't really matter what that pulpit it made out of.
If this isn't a good example of banning one thing leading to bans on other stuff, I don't know what is.
Viva la resistance.

Unfortunately for him his dream of banning resistance is just a pipe dream.

Oh and to anyone who asks why they don't care when other games use churches. Resistance used a real life church, the other games use generic made up churches, so if anyone wanted to ban those games because of the churches they'd have absolutely no case. Because manchester cathedral is real they might have a case.
I personally thought he looked like a turtle...
I'm guessing that Keith Vaz is to the U.K what Joesph Lieberman is or was to the U.S. Also doesn't Resistance have a 15 certificate in the U.K. Why should a 15 certificate game be banned outright. Just because of the whole Church of England Bullcrap. Sorry to say but that's just moronic.
Oh, it won't be, but when dealing with people like Politicians you have to assume you are dealing with a 3 year old, and that simply letting them get their own way will only change the content of the screaming, not the volume.
@Father Time

They still don't have a case.
As much as these guys are jumping on it, I just want to know one thing. How many of them have actually SCENE the content of Manhunt 2?
@papa

you mean seen?
Dude Res has nothing to do with AO material it barely deserves the M rating....
Fuck England, they're a bunch of fucking retards. The Game was rated M, takes place in an alternate Timeline, and is not comaprable to MH2.
To Austin Lewis:

That's why the sensible people are saying that Vaz is talking a load of cotton wool balls, and why Resistance was approved for sale by the BBFC.
Typical politician. He acts as if censorship is a good thing.

F*ck censorship (Pun intended)
To Austin Lewis:

Hey, thanks for calling me a retard! Really appreciate it!
Keith Vaz is a fascist.
@ Matthew

Not only he is talking a load of cotton wool balls, he managed to fill his mouth with said cotton wool balls :P
Hmm... Why is it that those who condemn video games are the ones who confuse them with reality.
Who is the Joker, and why have I not heard of him? For that matter, why are all these "ban the game" people the most ugly, not even a mother could love, unimpressive and obnoxious people the world has ever seen? I just noticed this. Why didn't I notice this before?
You think its bad? i have to live in the same city as this moron!

Hes always the first to complain too, the smut bastard, but only about games. Im gonna petition the short arse (yeah hes short) next time a film with an 18 rating comes out, on the grounds that it made me overly violent or something daft.
y'know if we just raise a bit of money you can pay him to change his opinion, after all all the politicians in this country are whores.

This is the kinda crap that stops me from voting, no matter who i vote for i still want them dead.
Well, to be honest, it doesn't matter who you vote vote, the Right Wing will end up in power.
Keith Vaz is a self publicising idiot who's jumped onto videogame violence because most people don't really understand them in the first place, and it's with a few well chosen screenshots, and a fair amount of ignorance, you can make it sound liek you CARE. Like that Jack Thompson fellow you have over there.

He was also connected to some 'cash for passports' scandal from a few years ago, but managed to escape censure, and refused to resign, insisting he had done nothing wrong despite the evidence to the contrary. Ah, Politicians, eh?
He's just like Jack Thompson.

Don't knock it until you try it, you idiot!
