Another week, another Take Two game gets banned. This time, it's the government of Singapore and the game getting the chop is The Darkness, according to a brief report on Game Axis. Here's what the Singapore-based site is saying:
It's official now, coming straight from the folks from New Era - the distributor responsible for bringing in games from 2K. The Darkness is officially banned in Singapore for what the local censorship have dubbed excessive violence.
So it's another 2K title that bites the dust in Singapore, since we can forget EVER about seeing GTA IV here. Oh, and the latest rumor is that Bioshock might be banned here as well for the same reason that the former 2 games won't ever be sold here too. Comments are opened below as usual.

As for the game being banned in Singapore, it is officially banned but that doesn't mean that it can't be found there. Of course, the shop that still carries the title in its inventory would have to sell it quietly.
I was referring to the hentai games. Some of that is beyond f-ed up. Also looking at some of the Manga they have at most book stores that Japanese bussniess men read on the train every morning (yes, i was there for a bit) made me cringe. So really, if something was banned there I would be surprised. The only thing I could see them banning is a WWII game about the Bombs.
Bullhog. Example, not ONE Starforce-protected game has as of this time managed to recover it's production costs. Dawn of War and Company of Heroes, two UNPROTECTED GAMES, have made bestsellers and one is pretty much widely reckoned as the strategygame of this CENTURY.
Seriously, ask yourself the following question: Why pay millions of dollars in licensing obstructive protection software that harms more casual users (SecuRom7 and Starforce are infamous for blocking LEGIT buyers from playing their game), and yet nothing more than a bit of more work for the pirates? SecuRom is cracked on the game's release date, Starforce a week later. The pirates still get the game, the casual buyers DON'T (after all, StarForce3 is known to sometimes corrupt windows dvd/cd drivers).
I hope so... I really hope so. Anyway, it's alarming to see a kind of political campaign against T2... It's strange and it's stupid.
At least I have one more country NOT to visit....
Singapore should be mass boycotted.
Only if you bring drugs into the country, then you're a dead man. As for entertainment stuff, I don't think that they will hang you for that. Man, this article makes me want to go back to my hometown England.
This is not the first time my birth country has banned a excessive violence material, it includes movies like Cannibal Holocaust and Clockwork Orange. Ha, so much for calling itself "supportive of creativity and free speech". You think words can change everything? This article may prove you wrong.
well...theres not really a black list nor are they sold in so called "brown bags".
as i said in the case of San Andreas, yes it is banned (not because of hot coffee, its banned way before that) but there is not a no import ban so thats why if you look around real carefully you'll find one somewhere(an original copy of course).
Even the movie Sin City is banned in cinemas here but that thats not stopping most ppl from importing it.
Any other country and I might be surprised, but Singapore... saw that coming a mile away.
theres always a misconception some where,so how dose a ban work there black listed and sold in "brown bags" behind the counter at stores or full on no import ban like Aus/Britain?
Its one thing to ban the sale in public stores its another to ban it from importing and private stores and such.
Archgabe
well a few games get edit for violence in japan, but bans....they have raped based hentai games for Christ sake...
I want to try that game.
If jack starts saying "look, they banned it in Singapore! Ban it here too!" then the most common response would be "why?" Sorry, anyone from Singapore. I dont mean to offend but Singapore is not a world leading entity.
IN AMERICA!
And yet they all still want to develop a globalized economy based on high-tech consumer goods. How pathetic.
yes,the ban on The Darkness is embarrassing on i'm sure most of the gamer community here but really it just means that the game will be harder to get thats all. GTA: San Andreas was banned here too but that didn't stop some stores to importing limited numbers and sell them off.
and no we are not a fascist police state Hitler loving queers (the ban on chewing gum is gone by the way) we don't ban games cos "OmgZ TeH GaMeZ ArE Teh DeVIl oF TeH WeSt, BURN THEM!!!" we have no jack thompsons here fortunately.
A result of piracy. Due to a lower amount of piracy on the consoles several studios are now targeting them instead of the PC marked. That's why Epic went to the consoles with Gears (or that's what my local gaming journalists says).
I hope it does, this game looks sweet. I'm also hoping that Resistance and Gears of War get released on PC to. It used to be that all FPS shooters were released on PC first and then on the consoles. Now it's the other way around if at all.
I refuse to buy a new system to play crappy games on :P
Heil I thought Germany was bad *L* (j/k)
jokes aside any goverment that bans media to adults needs its head in tis ass checked, its one thing with its censorship by proxy (console makers or the ratingboards frowning on it) its another when the goverment says no and confiscates imports like Brittan and Aus ,at least Germany lets you have it in a round about way.
I can rant about that hellhole all day if i felt like it, and dont get me started on freedom of speech, if i was living there right now, i would probably get six months in jail for "slandering" the governement, when everyone knows its the truth, you cant imagine how much i hate that place,my friend and i paid a couple thousand dollars just for littering, and i think he was fined even more just for bringing a pepsi on the subway, and no offence to anyone who might live there, but that place sucks ass
The only other thing I know about it is they used to sell a lot of pirated anime from there, oddly enough for a country based on "law and order."
