GamerDad Suffers Heart Attack, Needs Help

September 14, 2007
We're very sorry to learn that Andrew Bub aka GamerDad, has suffered a heart attack.

More details can be gleaned from a report on the GamerDad site, penned by Andrew's wife, Linda:
On Saturday September 1st, Andrew Bub - the GamerDad, and my husband - suffered a heart attack. An anterior wall Myocardial Infarction to be exact. On Sunday the 2nd, he had an additional MI and on Labor Day he endured a Quadruple Bypass operation, which saved his life. He's been in the hospital ever since and dearly misses his children, his website, and all of you - his readers...

Over the past four years GamerDad has published so much. Look over the site, loads of game reviews, and countless other articles about gaming. He's appeared as a spokesman, and in countless newspapers, magazine articles, and radio programs defending gaming with your kids - or at least that being involved is means good parenting.

GamerDad is apparently going under the knife again today and his family is hoping for some financial support from the gaming community. For those in a position to help out, there is a PayPal link on the GamerDad site.

GP: On behalf of the entire GamePolitics and ECA community, we wish Andrew a speedy recovery!

Comments

I knew there was a reason I liked him, gotta love Milwaukee. Get well soon, and best wishes to your family.

Best of luck GamerDad. I hope you have a full and speedy recovery.

I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

I wish I could provide some Yerba Buena from Indiana Jones Desktop Adventures (who remembers that one?). I used Paypal instead. Get well soon!

As a member of the gaming community and one person to another, get well soon. ]}i{[

Zerodash:

I wonder if JT will issue a letter in the vein of his infamous MetalGearSolid.org travesty?

If he did it'd probably go straight to the round file, where anything of his belongs. :P

@JT:

A suggestion: Burn in hell, thx.

@Twin-Skies:

And now you know why he didn't get jack s**t from me in the 'get well soon' department.

@Jesse Young:

I'd happily settle for disbarred/banned.

@Erik:

Agreed. Hope he'll enjoy his stay, cause it's gonna be for a little while...

@GamerDad wellwishers:

Again, signed, agreed, etc. My sentiments exactly.

Jack, how dare you call me a couch potato. I run freaking 5 miles a day at LEAST. What, just because I play games means I don't go outside? Seriously, answer this question Jack.

Don't die on us yet! Seriously get better. :)

I'm so sorry to hear this, and I wish him the best. I know what it's like to lose people to heart disease, it's actually quite common in my (otherwise very healthy) family, on my dad's side. Other common case being cancer. I'm sure he'll be fine, because I'd hate to see loss to someone else, like I have and I'm sure others have in the past.

Regardless of the person experiencing this, whether it be GamerDad, my best friend, or the most hated person in America (no, that was not directed at anyone), I would wish them the best. Life is precious, and I don't support murder or unnecessary death by any means.

And GamePolitics, I hate to be a pain, but if you could do something about Mr. Thompson's comments it would be greatly appreciated...their presence must violate some type of (at least ethical) term of use. Just asking so that I and the rest of the people commenting on here don't have to read or respond.

...

I can't stand looking at Jack Thompson parading about here as one of the most evil, self-centered men alive. He's a hypocrite, a tiny black ball of hate, and he gives Christianity a horrible name.

Someone, /please/ erase his comments and ban his IP address. He's only a troll who loves to laugh at the pain of others and he's gotten far too many chances to correct himself. It's time for judgment.

You really think Jack would practice what he preaches, but no, he instead makes blisteringly insensitive and off-color remarks after claiming on more than one occasion that we're the insensitive ones. Clearly the bigger man here is Andrew Bub. For that I salute him and wish him well. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the local soccer tournament. You know, so I can go get some that exercise you accuse us of not getting. Not everyone can get their exercise chasing massacres like Jack can, after all.

oh and jack if playing games leads to heart disease then doesnt that make you a crummy parent for letting your son play video games which you have admited in quite a few interviews???

Hooah

Too bad Jack had to ruin the post.

My thoughts are with you, Gamerdad! Get well soon =D

hmmm so scum bucket does his usual make a post and then leaves

typical jackass thompson

Lots of calls to ban Jack Thompson in the wake of some very insensitive comments posted in the GamerDad thread.

I'm as disgusted as many of the GP readers have expressed themselves to be in comments here and in e-mails to me.

However, I'm not going to issue a ban or delete the comments.

If the man wishes to create this kind of documentation about himself for all of the world to view, who are we to argue?

Those who are new to GP may not know the history, but it goes back a long way. He was banned from posting & even reading the site (via IP block) for about 18 months. I relented in July, after I responded to a lengthy attack on me, published rather irresponsibly by the PopZart website. Thought I'd give the man a chance to reply to what I said and then just decided to let it ride for a while.

Rest assured, I will continue to monitor the situation.

uh i'm 5'11" 120 pounds and 24 year old male and avid gamer. Sheesh, have some love for your rivals. Its unchristian to hate you enemies. Hate is more satanic i believe, the power of appreciating sin and using it for your own means. Research it and prove me wrong I'd even bet if I was broke.

Jack you are a passionate jerk. You could have said nothing really, nothing at all. Hell, so could of I.

@Pandralisk

Please, PLEASE lay off the whole "fiticious bronze-age" thing. Stop taking every possible chance to swipe at other people's beliefs. Honestly, you remind me of JT in that matter, in that he takes every possible opportunity to swipe at computer games.

Just... Just lay off.

See ya tomorrow, everyone, I'm going to bed.

@GamePolitics

I see your logic on this one Dennis,if JT wishes to give us enough ammo to fight off a small army of him,then he should be free to. Not our fault he's never heard of karma, or, what goes around, comes around

@gameryno

banning jack has nothing to do with his free speech, just like his liscence to practice law has nothing to do with his free speech (hes gotten so whipped by the first ammendment defence hes trying to use it in his own defence against the bar).

Jack has the right to his opinion and to express that, however a privately owned site does not have to publish that opinion if it is given to them. its the same as demanding to be on TV or in the papers, that is not a right its a privelidge reserved for those who can conduct themselves in a befitting manner. Jack is welcome to publish his opinions on his own blog or newsite, he does not have the right to hijack this own if the owner doesnt want him to.

I hope he gets better soon...
I'm going to assume JT is going to chuck an envenomed diatribe @ some point in here...

Get well soon, GamerDad.

Someone get that man a PS4 stat.

@ james gunn

Please don't tarnish this thread by mentioning his name. Seriously. And to Andrew, get well soon, I hope everything goes okay.

Speedy recovery to you Gamerdad!

Hope you'll be allright soon!

My wishes everything ends up back to normal... or better.

Get well soon!

Oh man, Andrew, I hope everything works out great and you're back on your feet in no time. Thankfully, one can still use a laptop from a hospital bed!

Don't worry Andrew, they'll have that baby out of you in no time! 12... 13 hours tops! Don't forget to BREEEEATH! You do have Patch Adams as your OB/GYN, right?

....

What?

....

Hey, laughter has GREAT healing powers.

All my faith in you and yours and all my strength of will I send to you for your safe and speedy recovery. Win The Game Of Life. (The Game Of Life is trademarked by Hasbro, all rights reserved.)

Get well soon! :)

Hope he gets well soon. I don't know much about him, but he seems like a great guy.

The Dark Chest Of Wonders (DCOW) wishes Gamerdad a successful surgery, and also wishes he had a paypal account to donate money.

Alas since he doesn't, he simply wishes for the best and prays that nothing goes wrong.

Get well soon. I would gladly send you money, but i don't have any. You'll just have to settle for this. :) :) :) :) :) :)

Best wishes, GamerDad.

At the risk of sounding snarky, and it is a little tongue in cheek, who's wouldn't be surprised if the heart attack was somehow linked into gaming activities b y GD's opponents? It would be silly, heartless and totally malicious, but I wouldn't be surprised at this stage....

Get well soon!

Adding my voice to the Get Well Soons.

Keep your chin up and don't stay down. We are all counting on you. Get well and get back to work removing stereotypes and prejudice from the non gaming world. Your in my prayers.

Get well soon GamerDad. My whole family will be praying for your speedy recovery.

Get well soon, GamerDad.

Watch Jack come in and say how everyone was 'bullying' him for his 'heart condition' a month or so back when we were really all showing HIM the same sentiments.

Get well soon, Gamer Dad. But take it easy, we'll hold down the fort while you recover.

I knew there was a reason I liked Gamer Dad, gotta love Milwaukee. Get well soon, and best wishes to your family.

Get well, my best wishes to you and courage to your family too.

My thoughts are with you and your family. Get better soon.

You have my sympathties.

/joke You better start playing more Eyetoy and Wiifitness!

Get well soon, bro!

Hope he gets better soon.

I wonder if JT will issue a letter in the vein of his infamous MetalGearSolid.org travesty?

Get well soon Gamerdad, you're a very important voice, and by the looks of thing,s one tough SOB.

@Zerodash

Odds are JT will be cursing his luck

Very sorry to hear about this but I'm glad to hear he's pulling soon. Get well soon GamerDad! All the guys from GamersWithJobs.com wish you well.

Just one more voice in the crowd wishing GamerDad a full recovery. I wish I could put it more eloquently, but alas I can't. Maybe it's best this way?
