Sheer Legal Brilliance: Jack Thompson Wants Judge to Also be Defendant

Sheer Legal Brilliance: Jack Thompson Wants Judge to Also be Defendant

October 3, 2007
Yesteday, GamePolitics reported that game-hatin' attorney Jack Thompson invoked Monica Lewinsky and Animal House in a claim that Judge Alberto Jordan was a big meanie for spanking Thompson over adding gay porn to the court docket.

Thompson went as far as to request that Judge Jordan remove himself from the controversial attorney's lawsuit against the Florida Bar.

Jordan, apparently having reached his saturation point with Thompson's antics, responded with an order directing that Thompson be referred to the court's Ad Hoc Committee on Attorney Admissions, Peer Review, and Attorney Grievance. The Judge had previously given Thompson until Friday to show why he shouldn't be sent before the committee, but 14 increasingly bizarre filings from Thompson in less than a week apparently caused His Honor to rethink the deadline. From Judge Jordan's order:
Rather than accept responsibility for his actions, Mr. Thompson blames the court for failing to recognize that these [gay porn] materials were already available to children on the internet on other websites...

Thompson, of course, had an entertaining - if legally questionable - response handy: He wants to add Judge Jordan as a defendant in the case. Um, that would be the same case in which Judge Jordan is also the judge. Don't think about it too hard; your brain might explode. From Thompson's motion:
There is no question that this court, like any federal judge, enjoys immunity for the performance of its purely judicial duties... But what the court has foolishly, recklessly, tortiously, and illegally done in filing what amounts to an ethics complaint against Thompson, and fraudulently so, is expose itself to personal liability...

Therefore, since this court has now insinuated itself into an expanded use of “discipline” to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech... Thompson informs this court of his intent to include Adalberto Jordan as a named defendant herein...

GP: More than anything else, this sounds like an off-the-wall tactic designed to force Judge Jordan to recuse himself from the case, thereby delaying the inevitable showdown between Thompson and the Florida Bar. We asked Thompson about that via e-mail, but received no response.

UPDATE (Oct. 5): Judge Jordan has now issued a stay on his order that Thompson go straight to the ad hoc disciplinary committee. The judge wrote that he will decide following next Tuesday's show cause hearing.

Thompson sees this as a big win, although we're not sure why.

@Conejo:

Other than the mime on which it fell?
Wow. So let's see...

1) Did he seriously just reference his relationship with the Bar to argue his skill in the practice of law.

2) "Good standing" just means he's paid his dues to the Bar.

3) He really did talk about the Bar as if he's considered an upstanding, professional with their support?

4) I think maybe he's considering his First Amendment right to mean he can say anything he feels supports his case, whether or not it would be protected saying it any other way.

5) I really think this is the straw. Hell, the camel has been in traction for the last few months.

Oh yeah, and did I mention I can't believe he's supporting himself by saying he has a good relationship with the bar?

-Mike Schwinger
@ Tenshigami.

Well done and well called. Often interesting when the higher authority one uses in vain comes back to bite them in the.... anyways

As the saying goes.

If you cannot dazzle them with brillance; baffle them with Bullshit. Jack is using an old highschool debate team delaying (and derailing) tact. Pitiful. This is what 31 years of law teaches?

Might I call for a show of support and respect for Judge Jordan? He has weathered Jacks storm of BS and came out this his robes nice and pressed :) I stand impressed. Salute
Amazing how this man can say he was actually "practicing" law. This is nothing more than a blatant attempt to save a career that needed to end many, many years ago.

From lying to the nation about VT, to exploting his son with unlawful "stings", these recent incidents in this man's "career" has nothing do with law or First Amendment issues, he is merely trying to feed off of the nations fears and create an issue when there is none to begin with. It is despicable.

I encourage all Florida residents to write to their legislators about this man and how much money he is costing us, the tax payers, in frivilous lawsuits, motions, and general waste of Florida courts time that can be focused on real issues effecting the state and the nation.
You would have thought with all that practising he might have developed some ability after 31 years, but he still hasn't got a clue.
He's one of the most persistant internet trolls I've ever seen. (although his troll-fu is pretty weak. Calling people sweetie?)

He practically pioneered the practice of massacre-chasing, although that certainly isn't anything to be proud of.

But his days as an attorney are numbered. As a lawyer, he is the very epitome of FAILURE. His career should be used as an example in textbooks as what not to do.

Once he gets disbarred (it is a forgone conclusion at this point), he'll still be a massacre-chasing internet troll, but hopefully he'll be marginalized and ignored. The best way to get rid of a troll is not to feed it, after all.
@Iniquus

Who in their right mind would represent him, he'd be a jinx on their career, and that's not to say Judges will just toss out his cases.
@Ashla

Sure if you are delusional or holier than thou. Which is pretty much Jack Thompson. Honestly I think it more trying to "muddy the water", a delaying tact. Desperate times call for desperate (and often silly) measures.

Actually Jack has does this before. Try to goad the judge then claim he is prejudiced. I wonder if JT has a master plan.... you know like a B movie villian. Have every Judge disqualified so there are none left to oppose his assession so he can make his own laws and all must obey him.
Oh yeah, one more thing Jack - I read that you were going to try to file a libel suit against Mnementh2230 for his comments on jaablog (comments that he justified and sourced) despite the fact that he had told you several times in that comment thread that he did not live in the US. How's that working out for you, hmm? Any luck, or was that just like your "cease & desist" email to the creator of Extra Life a while ago, an empty threat generated by an addled mind?
@JT

As to the nitwit above who asks about my running for judge (you seem a little obsessed with jack thompson), the election is in November 2008, moron.

So, are you going door to door now, bragging about distributing gay porn?

Or are you going to cry about a conspiracy of lesbians when you lose?
I find it quite humorous how Jack Thompson, attorney (for now), comes up with these quick, seemingly witty responses to just a couple of people's comments. Anything he doesn't know the answer to, or can't come up with a smart ass response to, he ignores. It's really easy to feel like a winner if you ignore everyone else's points. JT is like a bratty little kid who won't admit he pissed himself, and won't sit in the corner like he's been told.
@The_Attorney,

I totally get where you're coming from on this -- this won't be the cause of his disbarment. But at this point he has so many charges piling up against him I really think it's inevitable (and this isn't wishful thinking).

And you're right. A normal attorney would have taken a "Show Cause" and written a 3-page response. Maybe the judge doesn't agree with the reasoning and orders Jack not to do it again and that's the end of it. But Jack flies off the handle, insults the judge, insults the other attorney (again), compares himself to Paul Revere, calls himself a God warrior, and then throws a tantrum about how HIS First Amendment rights are being violated by the mean ol' judge. (And does this over the course of not one, but FOURTEEN filings.) Yep, that's a paddlin'.
@JT - I'm still waiting on that libel suit. Please, sue me. I want to see you try to sue me for telling the truth about your lies. Its not my problem that you can't be arsed to do your own research or fact checking. When you make claims (tell lies) like that, you're fair game when proven wrong. I called you a liar, and you threw a temper tantrum and wanted to sue. I think your reaction clearly did more to damage your reputation than my presentation of fact.

Please, sue me! I don't even live in the US!
@Mnementh2230:

You have my support. :P
In retrospect, I wonder if JT is taking his whole 'God Warrior' guise too close to heart?

He kind of sees himself as a modern day Leonidas, believing that having a 'strong moral belief' and being outnumbered in opinion by hundreds to one is somehow more of a weapon than things like facts, common sense and intelligence. From a historical view. Jacks' belief tate 'right will win in the end' are honorable enough, the problem is that Jack's idea of what is 'right' is more about him than about the law or about the children, so right may well win in the end, the problem is that won't be as convenient for Thompson as he thinks it will be, because Right is not synonymous with 'What Jack Thompson thinks is right'.
@Anonymous

While Jack retaining his license is a distinct possibility (to my knowledge, any given state Bar doesn't like disbarring member lawyers if it can be avoided with a lesser disciplinary action), the thing if it is that Jack's currently done enough that the Bar could likely disbar him if they wish to.

Given Jack's propensity for suing them every time they try to discipline him for his various misbehaviors, the Bar's likely considering ridding themselves of a lawyer that can't behave, and doesn't know when to accept a slap on the wrist.
@ GoodRobotUs:

Thanks for clearing that up, what I meant by "I'm no lawyer..." was that I wasn't willing to analyse the legalese you were willing to & just assume Jack knew something I didn't & that maybe there was a method to his [(libel lawyer's edit) - method]. I get the impression he has acted rashly here, his only out might be to back down & humbly admit he misunderstood, but I think that's as likely as Bill O'reilly doing same. Could this be the end for him?
It's official. My brain has exploded from this.

Dennis, I've been wondering though. Have you ever thought about contacting the Florida Bar to get insight on their side of the Thompson story? I always wondered what were there thoughts, feelings, and reactions (particularly, how loud they groan) when the complaints about Thompson first started flooding in, ever since the "Hot Coffee" scandal.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait, he's trying to plead the 1st on gay porn? Isn't that like the one type of thing that isn't protected?
Is our generation the only generation that sees this man for being what he is? a raving lunatic who is extremely paranoid?
Jack Thompson using the First Amendment for something other than toilet paper? This is amazing.
Why bother asking Thompson? He won't outright admit to being a manipulative bastard.

But yeah, this seems like a tactic of 'gumming up' the legal process and retain his license just a little longer.

Is there any way the Florida Bar / the Courts could stop this? Isn't this what the main problem with our legal system? It's abused, bloated and such that getting anything meaningful done takes months, if not years?

GP: I believe that everyone there is wise to his tactics and that the legal community has had it with him. I anticipate that he will be disbarred by year's end.
So.... hows the campaign going for that other judge's position? Haven't started? Didn't think so....
"Therefore, since this court has now insinuated itself into an expanded use of “discipline” to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech… "

Since when does free speech apply to court filings? Maybe I should post some gay porn on the servers at work and claim free speech when they fire me!
Oh... and the subpoena to Bush... can't forget that... ever get a response?
For gods' sake, enough is enough. This is nothing but a stalling tactic to delay the showdown between him and the Florida bar. Somebody down in your bloated and abused legal system needs to put their foot down. Why does this man still have a license to practice law when he so obviously abuses it? If I was a Florida resident, I'd be petitioning my courts to have him disbarred.
To Dennis McCauley:

Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I 'll be interested in your legal opinions.

Jack Thompson, Attorney and You're Not

PS: Hooah!

GP: what are the odds of making it to 32 years of good standing?
"Therefore, since this court has now insinuated itself into an expanded use of “discipline” to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech…"

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't Jack always been one of those people who have said that Violent Video Games are a form of pornography and thus are not protected by free speech? So wouldn't that mean that by his thought process that those gay porn pics he gave to the judge are not protected by free speech? Or is this another case of "It is ok if I do it"?

I thought Jack was a lawyer? He should know the judge cannot be both the defendant and judge in this case. Yet I suspect he thinks this is another brilliant legal ploy of his to get the Judge thrown off the case for conflict of interest. Like I said yesterday, one more shovel full of dirt out of the hole that is already too deep to get out of. Anyone think he will lose his license before the year is done?
I don't think Thompson will quit his rabble-rousing behavior after he gets disbarred, IMHO.
Mr. Thompson, Judge Jordan is not Bugs Bunny. He can't play as the entire baseball team, or in your case, the entire trial.

And you're saying WE'RE the ones who can't distinguish fantasy from reality?
JT should abandon his legal career and begin anew as a comedy writer. Seriously, this stuff is gold!!
You think with 31 years of "practicing" law he'd get it right occasionally.

Instead it's a litany of failure and childish temper tantrums.

This guy is self destructing faster than Britanny Spears.
@JT- please provide an example of a case in which the judge was also a defendant.
Hey, Jack,

I might not have a fancy lawyerin' degree like you got from that box of Cracker Jax, but I am able to read and comprehend the english language pretty well. From what the judge wrote, and from I do know about our legal system, I'd say you're screwed.

The strategy of "I'll sue anyone who doesn't agree with me on 1st Amendment grounds" strategy isn't going to work.

You're not going to be an attorney for much longer.
Even as a stalling tactic, how could he possibly think that this would help? Like the Bar is going to not disbarr him because he made superficial threat to force a judge into a position to have to recuse himself for the SECOND time in 8 months?!

Oh, I'm in a position in which I'm pretty screwed. I do something even dumber that will ensure that I'm screwed.

It honestly defies all logic.
....dude....weak....

You know, I'm getting a little Thompson fatigue myself, but this... (words elude me)
If this was anyone other than Thompson - if it was a rambling homeless man wandering the streets, for instance - we'd avert our gaze and pretend we didn't hear his insane ravings. And while the argument has been made that Thompson has to be met head-on in order to keep him from destroying our hard-won (and legally-enshrined) freedoms, I think he's moved himself so far past the point of reality, and therefore relevance, that it's time to start thinking about giving him the real amount of attention he deserves - that is, none at all. Aside from his dubious legal "expertise," what separates Thompson from the maniac standing on the street corner holding a placard and screaming about the end of the world?

I used to think this was funny. Now it's just pathetic and tedious.
I wish he would grow a Yosemite Sam moustache and get it over with.
"Hooah!"

That is the sound Jack will be making when that big ole dude in prison gets hold of him from behind.
I think we should thank Jacko for exposing just how corrupt the legal process is. After all it can't be a coincidence that every single judge and lawyer that opposes Thompson is corrupt and unsuitable for their office. Clearly Jacko is doing us a favor by exposing all this corruption and ineptitude.

I mean if everyone who opposed Jacko wasn't corrupt and inept that would mean that Jacko himself was. We all know that's umpossible!
Fall on the Sword Jack. Fall on the Sword.
Its the only way you'll retain the teaspoon full of dignity that you have left.
You've destroyed your career now. Give up. Its gone from funny to completely tragic.
Who is paying for these protracted proceedings?
You know, I think a party needs to be thrown the day Jack loses his license to practice(riiiiight) law. Perhaps even a holiday established.
It always amazes me when this bastard that regularly tramples the First Amendment, denies that children have ANY constitutional rights, and acts like a general ass attempts to hide behind the First Amendment.

So what is it, Jack? Are you the only one that has First Amendment rights? I notice that video game corporations can't advertise M rated games on shows with older audiences for fear that children can access them. Yet, you can submit gay porn to the public record (which is not protected by the First Amendment) and that's OK?

It almost sounds like Jack is doing our job for us. Think about it. IF he wins this struggle, we win. If you can submit gay porn to the public record, then nothing can stop you from advertising or selling violent video games. We can use this as evidence against anti-game laws (you know how people like to compare selling violent games to selling porn). Eventually, Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will allow AO rated games on their consoles as public opinion and precedent has swung the other way.
Go, Jack, GO!

What an idiot, though. NOW he's attempting to have the Judge declared a defendant in the very case he’s presiding over? WTF, mate? It's obvious that he wants the Judge to recluse himself and this is just another means to that end. But, why? The only reason the Judge is angry at Jack is because he Jack has been making a mockery out of the court. Spamming the court with filings that are completely meaningless. Attempting to subpoena President Bush and his brother. Challenging the Judge. Can they submit events that happened during and in the trial as evidence against Thompson? If so, the grave for Thompson's career looks to be about 14 feet deep, now.
I don't pretend I know much about law, or proper court procedure. But isn't Thompson supposed to refer to the judge by title when referring to him? Or is that just a formality that he can forgo in favor of his disjointed ramblings.
Yay, a Jack Attack! I was getting worried. Oh, and Dennis, ba-zing!
Wacky Jacky is across the board and everywhere in between? What will he do next?
Did... did Jack just call Dennis "sweetie" AGAIN!?

Okay... more that a little creeped out now.
Missed the Jackster's comment, so i'll respond to it:

"Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I ‘ll be interested in your legal opinions."

What's your idea of 'good standing'? Getting paid by your clients? Otherwise, you've been in deep shit for the past decade. I hardly call it 'good standing' when that same bar is calling you insane.

And for the love of God, quit calling Dennis 'sweetie.' What are you trying to do, make pedophiles come to your aid in court?
thats several times JT's used the term "Sweetie" to refer to Dennis. i wonder if he's as worried about this as i am!?!
Jack Thompson scribbled:

"Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years.."

Hey Jack? You'd think with all your practice you'd be GOOD at it by now. When a bunch of computer and gaming geeks can look at YOUR profession, which they admittedly know very little about and *KNOW* that you aren't professional, well recieved, or even the smallest bit GOOD at what you do?

What does that SAY about your skill or ability?

With your fanaticism, drama, and obvious lunatic paranoia, I'm sure whatever cult you start up to fill all the time you'll have because you no longer "practice" law with be enough to get you the media spotlight that you so badly crave.

Karma is a bitch. Enjoy the kool-aid.
I'm beginning to think that JT thinks the law doesn't apply to him. Yes trying to divert the judges attention might look good on paper but you are just wasting the courts time which they will see as worse that the initial cause of their attention as it is now a direct affront to the bar.
Oh and Jack anyone can hold a job for 31yrs if they wanted to but it takes either someone really smart or incredibly stupid to stand out in the publics mind at anypoint in their time at work.
And Jack, after admittedly trolling for gay porn to send to people, calling another man "sweetie" only cements the suspicion that you knew RIGHT where to look.
@ Jack Thompson

Did you just call another man.... "sweetie"? So.... now we know why you had gay porn on hand. Admit it, you had those pictures in your briefcase for your personal pleasure and they accidentally slipped in with that court filing.

And please define "Good Standing". I'm genuinely curious. After all, this isn't the first time you've come under fire from the bar. Nor is it the first time you've sued them. If that's good standing, OJ Simpson has good standing with the courts, too.
You keep saying things like "this may be some sort of legal strategy", or "this may be an attempt to do such and such". I think you're grossly overstating his intelligence here.
This worries me a bit agian. He's trying to weasel out of the hot seat again. How long is he going to get away with all this stuff. I hope GP is right.

He's like a cockroach.
Jack's actions reek of desperation.
Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I ‘ll be interested in your legal opinions.

Did you just copy paste your comments from one article to the next? What, too busy looking up more gay porn to submit?

Are you coming on to Dennis?

to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech…

Ironic to the last. 1st Amendment applies 100% to him, and only partially applies to anyone else.

From the court order:

This is why Mr. Thompson is wrong in alluding to Judge Gonzalez’s 2 public filing of the sexually explicit lyrics from a 2 Live Crew album. In that case, the critical issue was whether the lyrics were obscene. The lyrics, therefore, were relevant to the litigation. This case is not about pornographic websites, no matter how much Mr. Thompson would like to make it so.

*spank*

Also of note is Mr. Thompson’s inaccurate characterization of the show cause order as a judicial determination of obscenity. The show cause order did not purport to be a ruling on whether the images have any First Amendment protection.

Denied!
From Thompson's motion: "but also as to its bad faith nature, given the misrepresentations in the order and new cheap shots at Thompson that embarrass the federal bench."

Are you kidding me?!?!? JT is accusing someone else of taking cheap shots? Maybe it's the brain damage or the drugs that all of us gamers do, according to one of JT's "not-cheap shots" apparently, but that seems to me like the pot calling the kettle black.
Seriously, this has just become silly and repetitive. Jack, you can't stop the inevitable from happening. You WILL be disbarred. At the very least bow out while you still have SOME dignity, no matter how subatomic in size at the moment.
O.o Every time I think Jack can't do anything stranger than what he's already accomplished, he pulls a new rabbit from his hat. One almost has to stop and admire the sheer audacity of this man's actions. It's... Astounding.
Judge is under obligation to comply with Jackie why?
So... I just checked about contempt of court...

"A finding of contempt of court may result from a failure to obey a lawful order of a court, showing disrespect for the judge, disruption of the proceedings through poor behavior, or publication of material deemed likely to jeopardize a fair trial."

Showing disrespect for the judge? Check. A look at JT's filings liken Judge to a "schoolyard bully"

Disruption of the proceedings through poor behaviour? Check. Spamming is certainly disruption.

Publication of material deemed likely to jeopardize a fair trial? Check. Gay porn anybody? Sure, the publication may be against JT, but what the hell?

Wow... 3 for 4. I may not have a fancy plaque on the wall from fakelawdegreez.com, but I certainly know that, ahem, YOU ARE SCREWED JACK! GIVE UP NOW!

The most shocking thing? I spent 5 minutes at Wikipedia to find that out. Jack spent 31 years.
..............what?
@ Dennis

Perhaps you should sue him for sexual harassment and virtual stalking. I mean he's constantly coming here only to talk to you, like a stalker, and calls you "sweetie" all the time. Also, in light of the recent revelation of Jack Thompson's love for gay porn, well, I guess it's easy to put 2 and 2 together. Don't forget he's called you like six times in an hour's time before because he couldn't get a hold of you immediately because you were in a meeting.
and @ JT:

Anyone with half a brain can tell you're flushing away your legal career. Oh. but that would require youto have at least half a functioning human brain, now wouldn't it, Jack? that tiny little requirement is prohibiting ou from self-restraint and common sense.

Even if gamers were as stupid as you would like to insinuate, we'd still have double the thinking capacity that you seem to have.

Remember Jack: "If at first you don't succeed, you fail."
Man is there anything he can't think to do?

I mean really calling the Judge down to be a defendant?

Whose next Jesus?

I for one think the Judge and the court system is completely justified in trying to bring him before the committee, Thompson's actions for too long have gone unopposed and now finally someone is seeing through his crazy antics and calling him out on his bluffs.
"Whose next Jesus?"

That's much funnier if you've read in the news that a senator attempted to sue God.
Jackie dear....

You obviously care about Dennis' legal opinion since not only do you regularly read it but continuously reply to it as well.
I think there's nothing else we can say about this guy. He's Fred Phelps's understudy; that's all anyone needs to know.
More than anything else, this sounds like an off-the-wall tactic designed to force Judge Jordan to recuse himself from the case, thereby delaying the inevitable showdown between Thompson and the Florida Bar.

Pretty much my guess. Keep demanding that judges recuse themselves, and he gets another 6-12 month reprieve while they find someone else to take over... Just a sad hack trying desperately to avoid standing up for what he's done and accepting punishment. Then he could appeal to a higher court, and be 100% out of the reach of any judge who answers to the FlaBar's authority. But he won't do that, because then when he gets his ass handed to him, he can't claim it was a Bar conspiracy against him...

For someone who's so willing to go to jail (heh, try calling the first guy you meet 'sweetie' I dare ya), he's certainly squirming like a weasel when it comes to accepting his punishment like a man.

Real men take their medicine. Cowards use every trick in the book to delay the inevitable.
Judge Jordan's order is a thing of beauty.
"I find no merit in Mr. Thompson’s attempt to equate his actions with the use of Nazi concentration camp photographs to challenge those who deny the atrocities of the Holocaust. On the same note, Mr. Thompson is not the modern-day version of Paul Revere, as he suggests."
the longer he drags this out, the harsher the punishment will be. This has alread hit a boiling point, and DAMN he will get burned for it.
Hey Jack, when you say "in good standing with the Florida Bar", don't you mean "in goo financial standing with the Florida Bar", as in... you paid your dues to date? Because if you were legally in "good standing" with them then why would they be working toward shutting you down permanently?
Maybe his plan is to fatigue us with his outlandish acts and the stories that follow them in hope that everyone, the bar and judge included, just just get super-uber tired of him and let him go
I can’t believe he’s supporting himself by saying he has a good relationship with the bar?

Yeah, I know, the irony kills me every time I see that... ;)
Any idea why Thompson called Dennis sweetie?

Any one at all?
Man, all of you clueless n00bs aren't reading the TRUTH;

He's in GOOD standing with the bar, we don't understand legal proceedings, and the case is working in his FAVOR and everyone likes him, respects him, no one thinks that he is a HUGE media whoring horse's ass, none of his "collegues" every mock him or use his name as a joke when they do something stupid ala;

"Nice work Jack Thompson",

And no one who practices law has laughingly sent a friend gay porn and signed it Jack Thompson.

You folks just don't know how close to winning he REALLY is.

Plus, in his reality, he totally gets a pony.
Assuming this is a tactic to further delay his disbarrment, I would guess there has to be a limit to how long this can go on. Who has the final word on how many times/tactics he can employ?

Also, what happened with JT running for Judge? He used that tactic as a way to get the judge in the Bully case to recuse himself. Isn't that lying to the court if he never ran for that position as he said?
What is WITH him and Alaska?
I read both filings. The judge wasn't ever applying disciplinary actions. He was concerned with the proper order of filing. When the filings were improper, he denied the motion. First Amendment rights do not extend into the workplace or the court. When you get your license to practice law, you are being certified that you will properly file documents, motions, etc. according to the courts rules. When a judge issues orders, you follow them, or you could be in contempt--or have your motion dismissed.

This is not lawyerese. It's obvious. Essentially, JT was treated like someone who decided to represent themselves who didn't file properly. I would think a Lawyer of the Bar would know the rules?

If it's pouring down rain on your head, you don't have to be a meteorologist to say "it's raining." The judges filings were clear enough for a neophyte, so you need not be a lawyer to understand them.
Oh man, I think I understand something here. If the judge doesn't recuse himself from ruling on a motion that involves him, JT can claim conflict of interest. Then he can either force a new judge or maybe even just refile the case. So either the judge recuses himself, or Thompson's monkey wrench jams the gears.

-Mike Schwinger
as if trying to call the president as a witness wasn't insane enough.
@Iniquus
It's not a conflict of interest when it is an attempt to influence a judge. JT made the situation himself. It isn't a real conflict, it is artificial.
"Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I ‘ll be interested in your legal opinions."

I... I get it now.

We ARE all wrong about this. See, when you become a lawyer you sign an agreement that forces you to think of everything backwards. To us, it seems like he's in trouble with a judge and about to lose his license, because we're not bound to the Bizarro World rules. From Jack's perspective, being due for a disciplinary hearing means everything's A-OK! I guess you can't blame Dennis for not understanding fancypants legal terms like "contempt of court", which secretly means either "standing ovation" or "cheerful happiness party!"
JT: Poke, poke, poke, poke, penis, are we done yet? Can you hear me now?
Judge: Stop it.
JT: Poke, poke, poke, poke, penis, are we done yet? Can you hear me now?
Judge: Mr. Thompson, stop it right now.
JT: Poke, poke, poke, poke, penis, are we done yet? Can you hear me now?
Judge: Stop it, or I'll make you stop.
JT: Poke, poke, poke, poke, penis, are we done yet? Can you hear me now?
Judge: Ok that's it, you're in trouble.
JT: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Bias!
@ Quad9damage

So... Jack is gonna fight Superman next?
lol. I was looking for my daily JT fix (have to start the work day off right) but gods below I was not expecting anything as... amusing (wacked out is closer) as this. "You have to be kidding me" was my first thought, but then I began to wonder if anyone here was truely surprised. Seems doubtful really as I remember reading all the way back to yesterday posts here expecting JT to do his (in)famous "My way or I sue" bit. Makes me wonder though if the mental testing he was given to prove he was "sane" (sanity is overrated and not half as much fun) covered old fashioned paranoia.

('ware the sarcarm)
Obviously the court is out to get him, the (Florida) Bar is out to get him, various websites including this one are out to get him, and apparently everyone that posts here is out to get as well... Would seem to him that the more that hate him (I don't hate him, closer to annoyance and pity) the closer he is to carrying out his holy mission. Of course they only want to drag him down because they are jealous since he is spokesman for God (and always correct). Wait someone call the Pope, I smell infringment. (Ok time to play nice again)

A drowning man is said to grab onto anything available to save themselves (including pulling down his friends which JT has proven over and again). So I am wondering if there are any helpful souls here had a largeish brick to offer Jack to help him float or better yet someone with a needle poke in a hole in his over inflated ego. Either should help him sink all the faster. Heartless you say. No. Its just that am not so inhumane (even for a gamer) to watch anyone needlessly suffer. JT its time to rest.
Quad9damage : I think you've finally got it. Someone has kidnapped the real Jack Thompson, whose argument of a system like the UK system isn't THAT bad a proposal, and has replaced him with:

BIZZARO JACK THOMPSON

Who has become a distributor of gay porn via the legal system.
If Jack wasn't such an egotist, I'm sure he could've taken his personal crusade to much greater strengths, but at the end of the day his own ego has let him down.
Wow 0-o
hmmm... i read up there somewhere that jack gets a pony, in his reality anyway.
i dont know what it is about JT, but i must say, that some of the funniest comedy moments during my time reading news, comes from this website and its reporting on him.

keep going JT!
Jack, you seriously have a problem with authority. Among other things. But as a christian myself, there is just SO much wrong with this turn of events. Let us consult the Bible. You DO read this book, right?

"Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience." -Romans 13:1-5

The judge is a person of authority here. An authority established BY GOD.
Jacko is once again proving that no matter how many years one has been performing a job, one can still suck at it.
Darn lack of an Edit button. That was from the NIV.
"Therefore, since this court has now insinuated itself into an expanded use of “discipline” to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech…"

Wow... Just wow.. I am absolutely a free speech proponent. However, I would never have expected JT to claim that the distribution of gay porn falls under 1st Amendment protection. I'm sure he didn't intend to, but that seems to be what it amounts too. I wish him the best of luck getting the obscenity law stricken.. With that twisted bit of precedent gone, we shouldn't have any more worries about video game legislation.
"Sweetie"?

I think Jack might be hot for you, Dennis...
Does that mean we can stand on the street, distibute gay porn outside his house, and say c/o Jack Thompson and his first amendment rights?
To paraphrase from a classic TV show:

"This career will self-destruct 5 seconds..."
@Mystic tomato

4 for 4 actually, hes failed to obey the judges 'show cause' order on the gay porn filing, instead spouting all the crap we see now (not exactly showing cause).

If jordan doesnt find JT in contempt I'll be very surprised.
@Thabor

However, I would never have expected JT to claim that the distribution of gay porn falls under 1st Amendment protection.

The judge seems to have headed that one off at the pass, refusing to rule on whether it was obscene or not. So I doubt it.

Still it would have been funny.

THIS JUST IN! Noted anti-obscenity lawyer Jack Thompson has been credited with filing a Bar motion that inadvertently led to the abolishment of the government's ability to regulate the distribution of porn to minors! News @11 :P
@ plkrtn

Two problems with the UK system.

1) It carries the force of law. I'm sorry, but the government has no right to review my entertainment and tell me whether I can or can't partake in it.

2) It can outright ban certain material by refusing it a rating. One strength our system has is that the publisher pays a fee to have their game reviewed so the ESRB can not refuse a rating. Sure, AO is effectively a ban, but let's not blame the ESRB for that. That's the fault of retailers and console manufactures.

@ Thabor

My thoughts exactly. Check my previous post.
http://gamepolitics.com/2007/10/03/sheer-legal-brilliance-jack-thompson-...
Since JT is sue happy and is a weasel, can we file a class action lawsuit against Thompson for:

- Wasting taxpayers' money
- Menace to society
- Damage to the people and business in the video game industry, including retailers

Someone find a lawyer to sue him :)
"I find no merit in Mr. Thompson’s attempt to equate his actions with the use of Nazi concentration camp photographs to challenge those who deny the atrocities of the Holocaust. On the same note, Mr. Thompson is not the modern-day version of Paul Revere, as he suggests."

He used the Holocaust as a reason for posting Gay Porn? And he accuses others of losing perspective?

Finally someone's putting Jackie in his place!
Oww...I got headache...

I wish I was joking, but I'm not. I seriously got a headache now. I started as I as I was reading this article XD
wait, I just finished reading the rest of the article... He wants a Judge to sit in judgement over HIMSELF? Dennis was right, I think my brain just exploded...
This is verging into Phoenix Wright territory. Awesome. In the end it'll turn out the enemy lawyer was the real murderer all along.
This just proves the saying: You can't make this **** up.
With all the "sweetie" comments as of late, I think Jack has been letting his wife type for him lately, and she's starting to show she's a little sick of him at that.
I think he might make it to next year but just barely.

My bet on disbarment is: January 12th 2008
@aresil

He used the Holocaust as a reason for posting Gay Porn?

His argument was basically that pictures of the Holocaust were necessary evidence in the case against the camp staff, and so no judge would dream of saying that they were offensive and try to censor them or remove them from the docket.

The judge replied that it was JT on trial here, not Kent, so the images are 100% irrelevant to the case. If the case had been about Kent's behavior, then it would have been relevant. But Kent isn't on trial, no matter how much JT would like him to be.

That and JT filed them without notifying the court in advance. There are mechanisms to put "seals" on documents, usually used for stuff like sensitive information that is necessary for the case argument, but not intended for mass public viewing. Again, JT fails law class, he must have slept through the section on "how to file evidence to a docket"...

The judge also dismissed JT's argument that "because the porn is already publicly available elsewhere, it's ok". He stated that JT was a participant in the public distribution at that point, regardless of what it's current availability was. Just because some guys are handing out porn on the street doesn't mean you get to hand some out yourself...
Jack Thompson makes my tiny wittle bwain hurt
Did Jack just call Dennis "Sweetie"?
@Jabrwock

Thanks for clearing it up. I thought he'd gone beserk on some mad power trip... oh, wait...
@Jabrwock

We can always dream. =)

@Gameboy

Dead on there. I think it is a testament to the effectiveness of existing rating system that practically every game and movie actually does have a rating. I generally prefer the unrated versions when they are available, but they are relatively rare. Clearly if the rating weren't effective or valuable nobody would bother having their content rated.

JT is nothing if not inconsistent. He gives his son explicit instructions (and permission) to buy mature games, then complains that his son was able to follow his wishes. By comparison he is almost lucid in this instance.
What if he's right? What if it's all a giant video game conspiracy? My god, we didn't invade the middle east for oil...it was to spread video games into their market! We start wars because they ran out of material for war games to be about! It...all makes sense now!
@ Robb
I definitely concede it being artificial. But I wonder where the burden of proof would lie there. Would Jack have to prove it was justified in adding the judge and the conflict is valid, or would the judge/court have to show it's a ploy? It pretty much boils down to a "he said, he said" kind of thing. I'm not saying anything is really right, just that the bag of tricks is so vast and annoying.

I was just wondering something too. In all seriousness, does anyone else get a flash of a kid saying "Nah nah nahnah naaaa" every time Jack says "Attorney and you're not?"

-Mike Schwinger
I believe the synopsis of the various J Thompson pleadings and court conduct should be required reading in Florida law schools. Perhaps even in the first week of Trial Advocacy.
@Iniquus

'Nah Nah NahNah naaaaa' is Jacks usual attitude to the entire planet, having conversations with him have always been like talking to a 6-year old because he only hears the parts of facts or sentences he wants to hear and ignores the rest if it doesn't suit him.
But I wonder where the burden of proof would lie there. Would Jack have to prove it was justified in adding the judge and the conflict is valid, or would the judge/court have to show it’s a ploy?

I imagine it would be up to JT to prove he was justified in adding the judge to the defendant list. The judge only has the power to grant/deny his motion, and JT could then appeal to a higher court presumably.

Seeing as how JT has yet to appear before a higher court, I'm willing to bet that either a) he hasn't bothered, this media circus suits him fine, or b) the higher courts have rejected him to date, telling him to hurry up and get disciplined by the bar before they can intervene.

Either way, he's just using this as one more stalling tactic in a long line of sad attempts to stall the inevitable.
Too late. My brain already exploded.
I'm totally suing your ass, Dennis.
Jack Thompson has a knack for pulling words out of his ass; I wonder why he keeps pulling "sweetie" out now.
I find it ironic he's using the 1st amendment when he wants it to work, and then hates it immediately after his attempt. I don't think this applies though, its hard to argue first amendment speech by exposing yourself in public, even worse if you were touching yourself in the process.
Thompson has exposed some things, all while smiling with glee as if excited by the glaring eyes of the public at large. However, instead of expressing a message that was worth something or nothing, he exposed pictures of porno without a real purpose and trying to pass it off as evidence in a docket.
It may as well be obstruction for trying to impede the case.
31 years of practicing law and still screwing up this badly; It just shows he chose the wrong career, he'd have probably done better trying to start his own cult and attempting to get it tax exempted.

Jack go start your own cult, you may still have time before your body dies on you; it is too late for the damaged brain you have.
@orangekrush

I believe the synopsis of the various J Thompson pleadings and court conduct should be required reading in Florida law schools. Perhaps even in the first week of Trial Advocacy.

It should be required reading for that class in all law schools.

My contract law teacher back in university could have spent spent several days on this. He spent a week teaching us the "do's" and "don'ts" of filing documents in dockets, for civil suits. This entire set would definitely have fallen under the "don't" section. ;)
@ Thabor

I also love unedited entertainment. I've been picking up the DragonBall Z seasons that are being released and loving every minute of them. Something about Goku falling into "Hell" (not the HFIL), Vegeta having a short conversation with Guldo's severed head, and Recume flipping Goku off gives me pleasure.

As you might of guessed, I'm a big anime fan (as well as a gamer) and I love how much of today's anime is getting less censored. Bleach would be ruined without blood and character's attitudes would seem less real if they couldn't say certain words (one minor character is a lesbian). Even Naruto wouldn't have been released in its present form 10 years ago.

And I agree with your assessment of Jack's "stings". Effectively he is giving his son permission to purchase the games. No sales clerk/retailer could deny the sale to him because soon as the child has permission to purchase the game they are actually selling the game to the parent. And you wouldn't deny a sale to any consenting adult as that is bad business. And since we have no real evidence the sales happened (other than Jack's say so) we have no idea how they went down. For all we know, Jack was right there the whole time handing his son the game and money with which to make the purchase.
Maybe Jack has multiple personalities, and one of them happens to be a woman who likes to use the word "sweetie."

It's obvious that Jack is very sick and needs some serious psychological help. At this point, I'm not even mad. I just feel bad for his family.
To Jack Thompson:

Sweetie, when you get your HDTV and have been playing assorted violent games for 16 continuous years in good mental health, as I have, I'll be interested in your opinions on videogame violence.

Matthew, Gamer and You’re Not

PS: Headshot!
@Matthew
Excellent rebuttal in-kind. I've said it before, JT can in no way be considered a "video game violence expert" since he's never played them.
To Dennis McCauley:

Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I ‘ll be interested in your legal opinions.

Jack Thompson, Attorney and You’re Not

PS: Hooah!

Well Jack, unless we're in bizarro world, you've practiced for 21 years of mediocre standing, and then you've spent the last 10 years being a laughingstock and going without victory.

Your statement also says that we should completely ignore your opinions on videogame violence, as we've all been playing longer than you.

You and I both know that you won't be a lawyer at the end of the year, so give it up. You're a terrible lawyer and a terrible human being.

You're a liar and a snake,
Austin Lewis
What the... what is this moron thinking?! My brain hurts after reading this article, and honestly SWEETIE?! Ugh, I need a break from this...
Dan, Video Gamer
And if one does not need to have played a video game to jump to conclusions about it, as Jack Claims, then one certainly doesn't need a legal license to see what amounts to a poor quality employee who is struggling to keep their job. The rules used may change, but the desperation and Modus Operandi is still the same.
@ GoodRobotUs
Agreed. I think his WikiQuote page is one of the funniest things I've ever read.

@ Jabrwock
That makes sense. I would imagine this particular course ending up as him being beaten in many ways. Half of me expects his case to get thrown out because of improper use of the legal system.

@ GameClucks
He'll never be ignored. He may not be able to practice law, but he can still take actions. He can file suit in court as a regular citizen. He can still claim to be an "expert" and get on TV. He can still just yell until he gets heard. He'll never go away, just become less powerful.

This is just fun to watch. I don't mean from the point that the poor man is coming unraveled. It's like a case study. Trying to analyze these actions is riviting.

-Mike Schwinger
@ Matthew
Well said. "Headshot" is right.

@ J Thompson, attorney
I used to live in Florida; my brother, my mother, and an assortment of friends worked for the Florida Bar in different ways. No one respects you. I've often asked them why you are even allowed to call yourself a lawyer, and all they can say is that you embarrass the whole state and its legal system. No one respects you. Your son doesn't repsect you, and your wife is looking for a way out. You've lost. You lose. Find something else to do with your time.
I'm sure we have some people here in the legal profession posting to this site - when JT gets disbarred, can those of you with law degrees respond to all Thompson posts with "YourName, Attorney and You're Not"? Or maybe "And You're Not Anymore"?
@jack thompson, attorney

Hehehe, my gods Thompson, did you swap your first amendment TP for your law degree? You can't have your shit cake and eat it too Thompson, either game companies have that first amendment freedom too, or you don't have it either.

By the way Thompson, don't try to drag a judge into this by stating that Bill Clinton instated him so his opinion is somehow not valid. No one's opinion has ever been valid to you, well, except your own. This is your own fault Thompson, deal with it, kiddo.
As to the nitwit above who asks about my running for judge (you seem a little obsessed with jack thompson), the election is in November 2008, moron.
@Rachel

My guess is jack's in the in-between state right now:

One one hand, he's in a total panic because the Bar pretty much has him at this point, and it's only a matter of time before they get to drop the hammer on him. So he's at the point where he's thrashing about wildly and doing anything and everything to try and hold off the inevitable.

One the other hand, he still apparently wants to keep up the preference that everything under control and us gamers should be so scared because he's unstoppable. So he still tries to make those stupid comments here when possible. But since he's panicking, they're a little loopier than normal.

Also, didn't he make the exact same post on a different article? I guess the court doesn't leave him which much free time, what with his ass on the line and all. Which would explain why he's not commenting much to begin with. A sign of a loosing battle maybe?
I'll take the case!
@jt

I don't think getting a forced psych test means "continous good standing for 31 years"

besides, since when has amount of time doing something meant increased skill? I've been living for almost 20 years now, I'm still just as good at breathing and existing as I was back at year 1.

of course that's just my opinion. I Could be wrong (but I doubt it)
All that 'in good standing' means is that he has paid his fees on time each year, it means absolutely nothing more than that, he tries to feed out that line as though it meant they thought he were wonderful, but it's just more bluster from Thompson, his usual trick of using a statement totally removed from the situation to try and prove his point, much like the comments about Monica Lewinsky or Animal House etc, irrelevant, based on gossip and the very Media he so despises, and purely a confusion technique.
I Think I've asked this in the past but I might as well ask it again:

Is there any legitamtate reason why anyone would antagonize the judge overseeing there disbarment case?
Just trying to comprehend this logic is making my head hurt.

He's bringing suit against someone for allegedly "providing access to obscene material" when it's not even on the defendant's own website (Google should be part of this suit too by this logic); yet claims that his filing of said obscene material in a system which also lacks age verification is protected by the first amendment. Furthermore, it's illegal for anyone to file a complaint against him?

Wow, I wish I were a lawyer so I could totally ignore reality and make life miserable for others as a result of doing so.
Not that I'm into gay porn or anything but maybe its on the internet cause gay people want to stare at it. I mean seriously. Just like its the responsibility of people to make sure their kids don't play violent video games, maybe installing firewalls and other technical drippidy doopy is also the responsibility of the parents. Quit using scapegoats Jack Thompson for your insanity.
Let's see here:

-Downloads gay porn.... Check

-Calls other men 'sweetie'.... Check

-Throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way.... Check

-An absolutely 'fabulous' fashion sense.... Check

-Married to a woman that can't keep him under control.... Check

Yep, the results are in, Jack.... YOU'RE GAY

Any nay sayers?
@GryphonOsiris:

He's reproduced
@Silphion
So? Other gay couples have children from earlier marriages. Maybe he's just putting up a fight.
My brain is overloading from the stupidity and lack of logic from Jack Thompson.
...have the legal blogs weighed in on this yet?
@GryphonOsiris

Time for him to join Tom Cruise in the closet. Next he'll be making his living with puppets and driving a pretty blue Prias wit holiday stickers on the back window

[free internet if anyone gets which comedian I'm referencing]
@Gryphon- c'mon dude, you're insulting gay people here. :P
/sigh, /ROFL

Jack you brighten my day with your idoitcy.
"Sweetie, when you get your law degree and have practiced law for 31 continuous years in good standing with The Florida Bar, as I have, I ‘ll be interested in your legal opinions."

Well, you certainly seem to care about his opinions... in fact, you seem to care so much that you respond to almost every one of them. Every day. Obsessively.

And the "sweetie" thing isn't funny, and was never funny.
Gryphon kinda beat me to it, but I think a more accurate hypothesis to the "sweetie" talk is that Jack must have opened his "come out of the closet" kit. By his tone, he seems to be enjoying it too, and has garnered a cruch on Dennis.

So Jack, You're here, you're apparantly queer...should we get used to it?
@kurisu7855 - Jeff Dunham, I believe
Whoops! I meant 7885, not 7855! Curse my post-lunch sleepiness!
Jack's use of the word sweetie reminds me of the 2 gay guys from the first level of God Hand.
"As to the nitwit above who asks about my running for judge (you seem a little obsessed with jack thompson), the election is in November 2008, moron."

OOH! I got singled out by JT! My life is complete. To know that he thinks I'm a nitwit, my god, I can die happy now knowing that. And if it's so far off that you haven't started.... then what was the point of declaring your running so many months ago? Oh wait... could it have been yet another of your pitiful stall tactics.

But in the end.... I can die happy knowing that JT trolls GP enough to single out my comment hours after I posted it.
tax dollars are paying for this insanity.
Troll got owned.
I've got Jackie phone number.. Yippeee!

I'll copy it and send it to that hooker in Miami I just happen to know..
I suspect that by the time the judges' elections come around, Jack will just about be entitled to run for a bus.
How does that saying go? "The truth is stranger than fiction"? well yeah this takes the cake.

hmm. Anyone a writer? I swear we can turn this into a movie. DUMBEST LAWYER EVER. How about a dramatic comedy? hmm maybe we can get Neil Patrick Harris to play "jack thompson"... I mean the lawyer. Or maybe Lance Bass. Hmm they are all too young. Maybe Elton Jon? hmm That Guy from Will and Grace or someone A gay eye for the straight guy.

Any one else u can think of to play the Lead in the Dumbest Lawyer Ever?
George Peppard would have been perfect...

'I love it when a scam comes together....'
So, Jack, tell us, what makes you think that acting like a prick will do you any good here and now? It certainly didn't help you in Alabama - in fact, as I recall, it got your pro hac vice revoked!
One of the definitions of insanity is attempting the same thing over and over again and yet expecting different results, you know.
@ F**ked up
- Well, you'd have to get JT. You can't just ACT this moronic.

But concerning the topic at hand...wow. I fully agree that he can't argue his point about violent videogaming, because he hasn't played it. And sure, I may not know that much about law (and I don't claim to), but it's not that difficult to tell when someone is being a complete and utter idiot. You're just making a fool out of yourself in the legal system, JT. You parade around the courtroom acting like there's someone out to get you. Well, after reading all of your documents, I have to agree. You are out to get yourself.

Even babies know not to touch the heater after they burn their hands. Dogs know not to piss on the carpet after you whack their nose with a newspaper. Funny how you somehow manage to lack that basic bit of common sense.

Submit an apology, plead to the judge, or just take yourself out of this situation somehow. At least own up and be a man at some point in your "career".
@jack thompson, attorney

If anyone here is obsessed, it's you. You are going to suffer for it. Deal. I like how that's all you have, too. Something off-topic and random that doesn't relate to anything being discussed. You're pathetic and I wont feel any remorse WHEN (not if, but WHEN) they tear that lawyer badge from your morally corrupted self. Have fun basking in your wife's hard earned cash while you ponder where you went wrong. No doubt you'll never actually learn a single lesson from any of this.
What's with Jack Thompson calling everyone "sweetie"? I've got friends who do that as well, but they aren't irrational, narrow-minded homophobes like Thompson.
@Kevin H
Well, he's not calling *quite* everyone "sweetie"- I mean, he just called DeusPayne a nitwit and a moron!
I wonder if this is just some bizarre twist in his normal name-calling routine.
@Jabrwock
A conspiracy of lesbians... is that a group term, like a murder of crows or a pod of dolphins?
In any case, hottest conspiracy ever.
@ApokalypseNow

You win teh prize!!
It's just Jack being his usual narrow-minded vindictive self, anyone remember that episode of Star Trek called 'Mirror Mirror', where Spock points out that it is easier for a Civilised man to act like a Barbarian for a length of time than for a Barbarian to act like a Civilised man?

In that comparison Jack is the 'Barbarian', he lacks the ability to function in an environment that is not tailored to his own particular prejudices and lashes out indiscriminately and viciously because of it. I've never seen him be civil to anyone he doesn't agree with, and that is what forms the basis of civilisation, if people couldn't cope with other people who had different opinions, mankind would never have got beyond sitting in trees throwing faeces at each other, frankly, Thompson is still at that stage.
@jack thompson, soon to be ex-attorney

Well, you won't have to waste money on a campaign after THIS November now will you?
@kurisu7885
Yay! My very first internet!
@josh martz
~yeah well it would be hard to find someone that can play someone that moronic but as we all know JT loves the spot light. and well to do a whole movie on him in the form of a dramatic comedy, well i doubt we will get pass the first scene with JT interrupting and trying to do his own thing then spouting off a 3 hour rant about he is trying to protect America.

But I think this is a great list of actors to play Jack Thompson

I swear that Jack Thompson has seriously come up with something worst than the Chewbacca Defense. Ha it would be funny if they start teaching a class on Jack Thompson, HOW NOT BE A LAWYER 101
Sorry for multiple posts, but I just thought I'd also point out that Mongolia, who Jack referenced as a society 'with no electricity' in his interview with gameTwat has a higher literacy rate than the US, 99% as opposed to 97%, and has perfectly acceptable power and transport coverage, it also has Internet and Television. So Jack's ignorance beats him before he starts yet again.

http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107796.html
That's a lovely list. Very entertaining.
I don't even know how the Website for Gay Actors in the United States got into my name
...
@ Austin Lewis:

A point well noted. As much as people would say he's gay (which isn't even proper use of the word). I wouldn't call him even remotely homo-sexual. Looking at his antics, and calling Dennis "Sweetie", there are three words for him.

Obsessed. Disturbed. Megalomanic

...What really makes the whole Jack Thompson saga funny (and frightening) is it's obvious he does not do any of this for the money. The media attention--sure, but that's means to an end. He honestly believes in the stuff he preaches about video games and today's society.

THAT is the scary part.
Aha! It carried over from F***ed Up's post!
What I particularly love about the gay porn debacle is the basic summary of it. Now someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but was it the following:

"I hereby submit for public viewing images of explicit pornography to demonstrate that this man is a reprehensible human being for making images of explicit pornography public!"

Throw in that the porn didn't even come from the man in question and you really have to wonder what the heck he intended to happen.
Just kidding, I actually do have more. :P

I still can't fathom how that shrink declared Jack "sane" as there've been 150 posts in this thread alone (including a handful by the nutjob himself) that prove otherwise.

Jack:

Don't let the door hit you in the ass *too* hard when your career ends!
@DarkTetsuya

The Shrink was exercising Christian Favoritism.
Lmao Ummm i hate to tell you this guy's but jack has been coming on to dennis ever since gp was still running LiveJournal....

I think he's already used

Honey
Sweetie
And i think Sweetheart.......

Man thats creepy....Dennis jack hasnt sent you any love emails or anything like that has he...or a video of him singing "time of my life" or whatever that song was that they played during the star wars family guy episode...

jack go play the 360 and enjoy bioshock...just ask jack jr if u can borrow it

Hooah

p.s harvest the little sister
"As to the nitwit above who asks about my running for judge (you seem a little obsessed with jack thompson), the election is in November 2008, moron."

I am curious to what you believe your chances are of actually winning the election, being that you are the laughing stock of the Floridian law practice and the American legal system as a whole?
@DarkTetsuya:

It's been pointed out before that Jack can act rational. Despite our views upon him, and his views upon the world of entertainment politics. He is a (barely) capable man of sound mind. He is, however, arrogant, creative, compulsive, rude, and downright destructive. It is the sort of danger you commonly encounter any professional world.

Doesn't know all the material, but knows enough to be dangerous.

I find the phrase rings true here. As it stands, I'm glad he was declared sane by a licensed psychiatrist. I understand that Dr. Wunderman may not have looked at the issue correctly, but this basically means that Jack Thompson may not excuse himself for his actions. He is totally responsible for every step and misstep, and will suffer the full consequences of those actions. No one will baby him or give him a light slap on the wrist when his defensive tactics totally fail.
anybody want to take a stab at when jack may attempt to run to be a judge????

Maybe thats his plan...he gets booted from being a laywer and then tries to be a judge and then only takes violent video game cases so he can immediatly go and try to take out the industry that way??

never know
I thought the song lyrics went,

"DON'T rock the boat."

~Otaku-Man
I reckon Will Ferrell would be perfect for the role of Jack Thompson.

I look forward to what the Committee is going to do to you Jack.
I just emailed this to dennis but i'll put it here too....I give it another 2 weeks before jack calls Dennis "babygirl"
I have no words for this... yet, here I am posting my response. I'm gonna go cry somewhere now.....
OBJECTION!

That was...objectionable!
Look on the upside. Jack has always preached on about saving the Youth. Good as far as it goes. Still what becomes of Jack after he is booted from the Bar? Aside from our lack of daily humor (its going to be boring) there is the matter of the youth still needing protection. So here is my plan. We use JT as the new posterboy for the war against drugs.

"Kids remember, don't use drugs or you might turn out like Jack Thompson."

"This is your brain (points to Dot)
This is your brain on drugs (points at picture of JT in his Pink feather robes and crooked toothed smile)

Think about it"

I have a feeling that might acutally instill enough fear to work
@kurisu7885

He also need a little yappy dog and stickers all over the back window.

Not to mention a Jalepeno.... on a stick.
Bar or not, JT will continue to be source of conversation. He isn't the controversial figure he is for his career as lawyer, that's just a foot-in-the-door. That door is wide open now, and he will continue to do speaking engagements and draft unconstitutional bills for lawmakers to use, get quoted a lot, etc.
@Tenshigami

Here's the problem with you posting that script from the Bible. You are using a logical train of thought. You are assuming that Jack Thompson, who claims to be a Christian, will read it and think, "My God! He's right!"

This will never happen because in Jackie Boy's fantasy world, he is never wrong. In his fantasy world, he is ALWAYS in the right and what he is doing is always the right course of action. If Jack is guilty of anything, it's the sin of pride because there has never been a man less willing to accept his faults and failures (and there are plenty) than Jack.

"You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order! They're out of order!"
See, Jack? I can quote Al Pacino movies too!

"HOOAH!"
you know, I think when this is all over, and JT is out of a job, I think we all should, in the post about him getting his license revoked, give him a friendly PS at the end of our messages, like this

PS: Hooah

as a friendly farewell to the self proclaimed anti game champion for his job against us murderous machines known as gamers
Hello all,

Long time, no post. I hate to do this, really I do. But JT isn't going to face sanctions for his filing of the porn. I know, I know. Let me explain...

If nearly any other attorney had filed this motion, the pictures would not have been included, however (and it's an important however) that is not to say they are irrelevant to the cause of action (as stated by Judge Jordan in the Show Cause Order). JT's point is that he is being unfairly targeted by the Florida Bar (a point I disagree with). His evidence for this is that there are other attorneys in Florida who JT believes are violating bar rules in a more egregious manner. His belief is that a Bar Member website that links to a website that links to another website where porn is available is a serious violation and should be slammed by the Bar. He included the pics in order to show that they were hardcore porn, and therefore inappropriate for the Bar to support. LETS BE CLEAR!!! - I am NOT supporting JT's position that this is true or violative! I am not saying that JT should be free to file whatever the hell he wants and say whatever the hell he wants to judges and members of the Bar of any state. I AM saying that he is not as far off base as he may seem IN THIS CASE. That being said...14 filings JT? Really? Claiming that the judge has gone so far as to open himself up to litigation in a personal capacity? You are out of your mind (regardless of what any quack may testify to). You failed to properly respond to the show cause order (which I could have done for you in one 3 page filing - but that wouldn't have generated the controversy you need, would it?), you continued to personally insult and question the impartiality of yet another Federal judge, and filed your rambling missives with bloated prose and random quotes. Regardless of whether you are disciplined for this filing (which you and I both know you won't be, leading to you pounding the table claiming victory) you will be disciplined by the Florida Bar. You conduct is an embarrassment to the entire profession.

Have a nice day JT! For the rest of GP reader's: sorry I've been gone so long, been busy. :-)

"JT’s point is that he is being unfairly targeted by the Florida Bar (a point I disagree with). His evidence for this is that there are other attorneys in Florida who JT believes are violating bar rules in a more egregious manner."

Do you know what happens when you are pulled over for speeding and you tell the officer that the car ahead of you was going faster than you were. Yeah, you still get a ticket.
I'm inclined to agree with the Attorney with regards to the filing, as I said before, that's more a case of improper filing procedure, a simple 'mistake', and one that probably wouldn't lead to sanctions, it more notably leads to embarassment for Thompson for forgetting his procedures in the first place.

As the Judge pointed out, he hasn't accused Thompson of doing anything improper, he asked for an explanation or he'd send the case for evaluation in that respect, Jack's response were insults and accusations without actually reading the body of the Judges orders.

As The Attorney says, this is about distraction and generating 'news' with Thompson's name in. I still don't think he's going to walk away with his licence, not with the current complaints against him, but I do think he's purely doing all this to get attention for his post-legal career. Jack's actions of posting the picture were silly, but not beyond forgiveness, Jack's reaction to the Judges order, however, are on a wholly different level.
@Silphion

Did he or did the mailman? I want a DNA test because no way someone that insane and stupid could figure out the complex techniques behind producing a child.
@ Erik -

Again, not saying I think he has a point, just saying he has enough of a point to avoid sanctions.

The_Attorney
jack thompson, attorney says

"As to the nitwit above who asks about my running for judge (you seem a little obsessed with jack thompson), the election is in November 2008, moron"

Said the man who thought Halo 3 came out in October, and no one is more obsessed with Jack Thompson than Jack Thompson.
@The_Attorney

"His belief is that a Bar Member website that links to a website that links to another website where porn is available is a serious violation and should be slammed by the Bar."

that just seems odd... that cant really hold up in court can it? I mean if a website were to link to google, or have google ads on it, it would link that website with google, and google, effectivly links to just about any website out there, include porn websites. heck the same could be said about yahoo, ask.com and many other search engines.

point is... just about any website out there that has atleast one link to another website, chances are if you were to follow that chain far enough you can link up with just about any website out there on the net, theoritically anyway.
@Sora Chan

No, it wouldn't stand up as a defence, even though Thompson believes it will, but that doesn't mean he's not entitled to put it forward as one. His method was silly, and unprofessional, but the simple act of filing impoper material in a court docket without checking is just bad lawyering, not a sanctionable offence on it's own. It's not Thompsons' actions that land him in trouble so often, it's his reactions.
@ Sora-Chan -

No question that his reasoning is terrible (as always). However, the only thing he needs to do in order to avoid sanctions is provide even a semblance of reasoning for his filing. I, sadly, believe he can do this. Is that to say that he has any hope for avoiding Bar sanctions on the underlying misconduct (which has NOTHING TO DO with any other attorney in Florida or elsewhere?)? Nope. He's dead in the water, and he knows it. Therefore: 1) generate publicity, 2) slam "activist" judges, 3) claim that "they" are forcing little kids to watch gay porn, and 4) run for office. Not sure what the rules are in Florida (not my state), but not all states require sitting judges to be attorneys.

The_Attorney
Mr. Thompson

I've been in practice for a long time. However, based on the content of your writings and choice of words within those writings, I am sure you would not be interested in my legal opinions as well.

I am puzzled about your strategy of posting inflamatory remarks in a public forum and your apparent lack of caring that your off-the-cuff words impact your professional reputation and the reputation of lawyers in general.

I do not practice in Florida but my Bar association has disbarred members for activities that brought the profession into disrepute. My advice, for what it is worth to you, would be to ignore this website and concentrate on your reputation and career.
@The_Attorney

Well, producing his reason for this is one thing, but a reason the judge will believe may be a different matter entirely.
@The_Attorney - I'll be releasing some Anti-Jack videos on You-Tube, detailing how crazy this nutjob really is a few months from election time, and sending links to every major and minor media outlet in the Miami area. I want to saturate the voters with the truth about JTs idiocy.

With a little help, we can publically humiliate his ass AND keep him from getting office - and the best part is that everything in the videos will be absolutly true and 100% documented on a website put up specifically to stop JT from claiming libel.
@The_Attorney

The question is, can he avoid trouble for his response the to judge? He's got some tortuous logic for filing the porn in the first place, so I can see him getting just a light smack on the wrist for his blatant disregard of procedure. However, what about the excessive filings and disrespect for the judge in response to the judge's reasonable show cause order?
Jack

I've heard that saints row 2 is in development so why not have Jack Jr Buy that one next
@ Gray17 -

I like to think that most members of my profession are reasonable people. The judge has made it clear that the number of filings made by JT were unacceptable. JT could face contempt charges going forward. However, most folks will attempt to deal with it, as opposed to fighting JT on every jackass thing he does. Think about how much time the Judge had to spend on this silliness! This is not his only case, remember. So, many will just ignore his antics unless he crosses some line (like filing the pics without seal or warning).

Keep in mind, that this suit is JT's response to, in some part, he antics in front of another Judge. :-) I imagine that Judge Jordan will attempt to keep this case as simple as possible and avoid being taken off track by JT.

The_Attorney
Well i guess Moron Boy Finally realized a long time ago that his career is pretty much done and now he's trying to keep it from happening as long as he can...trust me by the time gta 4 comes out or a few months before it he will finish what is left of his career and will screw it up big time
@ kurisu7885

I never said they'd be in their right mind. Just that He'd find ways. :-p
@The_Attorney

I would agree if this was JT's first time attaching inappropriate material to a filing. It is not.

@Mnementh2230

Don't let that fucking loser try and threaten you. Is is a snake, liar, and disgusting excuse for a human being. I welcome all threats from that scum-sucking piece of shit. It makes for hilarious headlines.

I wonder if he enjoyed the results of the Photoshop contest? I know I did.
Has it already been noted that this isn't the first time that Jack's filed pornography with a court and been told in no uncertain terms to knock it off? He filed similar materials with the Florida Supreme Court and was ordered to knock it off or he'd be subjected to the requirement that all his future filings be signed and filed by another attorney on his behalf. But, of course, Jack never learns and like dogs return to their vomit, so does a fool to his folly.

And, in my opinion, Federal Procedural Rule 11 makes it almost too easy for a federal court to slap a litigant with sanctions (up to dismissal of their case) for filing documents without a good faith basis for doing so and I sense that Judge Jordan's just a button-push or two away from slapping Jack -- and hard. And, once slapped, it's the slapee's heavy burden to get the court's slap retracted.
Hey everybody I was thinking about it and lets see if we can find a Peanut Doll for jack...

Jeff Dunham Rules......
The_Attorney:

Wonderful insight on what could or could not happen. That begs one question though: What about JT's blatant disrespect for His Honor? From what I understand, not only he is not using the correct honorifics for the person presiding over his federal suit (I understand the trial has not yet started, though). He has basically slammed Judge Jordan up and down, and made statement in court that he wishes the Judge to be included as a Defendant in this case [which sounds like an attempt to force a recuse], and will place a seperate suit against Judge Jordan if the motion is not accepted.
@Mnementh2230:

Can we get a link to this JT archive you mentioned?
@The_Attorney

Again, not saying I think he has a point, just saying he has enough of a point to avoid sanctions.

He could still get spanked with sanctions, because however much he may believe the court "needs" to see the information, there are mechanisms for filing material that is important to the case, but not suitable for public viewing. Stuff like personal records, graphic imagery, sensitive information, etc, can be filed under "seal" (with the judge's permission). No permission was sought prior to the filing.

JT could easily have filed for permission to file the pictures under seal as "evidence" that the Bar frequently looks the other way, and then claimed bias if he had been rejected.

He isn't in trouble for filing the pictures, he's in trouble for the manner in which he filed them, which equated to publicly distributing pornographic imagery. Which he then defends by pointing at Kent and going "well HE did it first."

While I'm pretty sure the judge was not amused by the filing, he sounds more angry that JT would basically do exactly what he was accusing Kent of doing, allegedly under the Bar's nose. Which is why the judge made it clear that filing a picture of gay felatio was not needed, a mere accusation with links would have sufficed. Hardcore proof could come if Kent challenged that the pictures even existed.

A better argument would have been to show that former complaints submitted about Kent's "porn network" went uninvestigated, unlike the myriad of complaints against JT. But instead, he files the porn with the docket, as his first official complaint that Kent is "distributing" porn.
@The_Attorney

Actually, I just had a funny thought. If the Bar didn't spank JT for filing the porn, then it would be harder for him to claim bias against him... ;)
i think you can still access all the old archives from Lj on the front page cant u??
I see what he is doing. He is provoking the judge in an attempt to get the judge to be a defendant so that he must recuse himself from the case.

A man who represents himself in court has a fool for a client. I am that fool!
- Gomez Adams.
@The_Attorney:

Including gay porn in an irrelevant motion to the court? Maybe no sanction.

Responding to the referral by naming one's intent to name the judge as a defendant? Wow. And what really boggles me is, I think JT is actually trying to name Judge Jordan as a *co*-defendant. My head spins.

Ah well, he hasn't filed any paperwork, so as usual it's just hot air. Hooah.
@Jabrwock:

Actually, the Florida Bar isn't yet directly implicated. It's actually the Ad Hoc Committee on Attorney Admissions, Peer Review, and Attorney Grievance for the Southern District, the federal equivalent of the Florida Bar. And the Committee, in addition to referring the matter to the Florida Bar if they so choose, can revoke any admission to practice before the court currently granted Mr. Thompson. He'd still be a Florida-licensed attorney able to pratice in Florida state courts but he'd be unable to pratice in the Southern District (i.e., federal court).
Ugh. Can we just lay off this guy for a little while? I know it's entertaining to watch him self-destruct, and to self-righteously rail against his fascinating interpretation of the First Amendment, but I can't help but feel it's tasteless to laugh at a mentally disabled individual as he implodes in public.

Please, let's just raise some money to buy him a nice big helmet - maybe one with a cartoon bear on the front - and move on before he flies into another tantrum and hurts himself on a sharp corner. Or gives himself a paper cut on all that gay porn he's viewing. On his computer. He could do it, by God. He'd FIND a way. And then he'd sue the creators for putting out a "dangerous product."
@Evilninja:

I can’t help but feel it’s wasteful not to laugh at a mentally disabled individual as he implodes in public.
@JDKJ

it's like the old saying:

if a tree falls in the forest, and it falls on a mime, does anyone care?
Another classic comedy antic from Jack thompson, trying to make the judge a defendant. I can imagine an odl 40s Tv show where the jusge has to rush to the stand then rush to the judges box, all while having a conversation with himself about himself. (hell it may make thompson look sane by comparison).
The Jack Thompson Litigation Strategy:

Step 1. File ridiculous, meritless, lawsuit.

Step 2. Upon first unfavorable ruling by court, file motion for recusal.

Step 3. Upon denial of motion for recusal, repeat Steps 1 - 3.
@Jack Thompson:

What ever happened to your "Ben Kuehne is a target of a D.O.J. investigation into money laundering by the Medellin cartel" story? I haven't heard you repeat that one in a while. I hope you haven't abandoned what I thought was one of your more inventive smoke-screens.

I don't think JT is going to be disbarred. Don't get me wrong, I hate the lunatic lawyer who now seems to be coming out of the closet to Dennis, but he's got an ace up his sleeve (and a thumb up his ass). The_Attorney is right, his contempt of court charge is not going to get him disbarred. I've seen lawyers go to jail for contempt of court before and still retain their license to practice, so it's not unprecidented.
The irony to me is that Thompson here claims 1st Amendment protection for an evidentiary filing of gay porn, but ignores the 1st Amendment entirely when he cites its use on someone's website. Plus, he argues that it shouldn't be freely available on someone's website by making it freely available on another. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised by his hypocricy at this point.

Keep giving the guy rope... He'll continue to hang himself with it. The guy is a zealot, and zealots will do anything to achieve their goals, even if their actions fly in the face of their own logic and arguments. It brings to mind my favorite bit of correspondence that Jack sent me back in July of 2005:
"I don't expect to win hearts and minds. My intent is to stop evil. Big difference."

Yeah, how's that working out for you so far, Jack?
You know with the responses that come to news posts about Jack Thompson, you would think gold came out of his mouth every time he says something.

He could walk into a comments section, say "I like to eat peanuts", and subsequently have 50-100 people easily comment on that statement alone. Furthermore, they would also go over how that statement makes him a total git.

To that end, he could go in and go "PFFT" and have everyone lambasting him and how adding two f's was highly pretentious.

He could, but he DOESN'T!

Instead he rambles on, throws insults, and denies any responsibility, mistakes, or anything. He could be civil and nice and polite, but instead he prefers to insult everyone around him, isolating himself from everyone.

I hate to say it, but he's the only person I know who deserves such insults due to the fact that he's not only an idiot who doesn't realize his own mistakes, but an idiot who refuses to realize his mistakes when his own mistakes are pointed out to him.

To this end, the nincompoop is going to lose his law license and probably never see the light of day in the game industry again.

What a MORON!

~Otaku-Man
Woah, JT news is one way to bring in the folks. Hehe. And I'm totally not suprised JT didn't respond to GP's questions.

What scares me though is Jacko wanting to run for judge of all things. I'm sure his campaign add will say "I fight for the right to protect The CHILDREN" or some bull like that. Uh... That thought doesn't sit well.

Anyways, good for the judge. Its nice to see him trying to toss the book at JT for being a complete idiot. I hope the Florida Bar gets a good look at how 'upstanding' JT is, with these legal filings.
"the election is in November 2008, moron."

How professional of you, Jack!
Norm Kent
Attorney at Law
Fort Lauderdale, FL

Just thought you would all like to know that the Judge has already denied Thompson's motion to recuse, seriously noting that "Thompson unfortunately appears to believe that every act taken against him, and any judicial ruling adverse to him, are part of a vast conspiracy designed to silence him and destroy him."

If Dennis does not post it here by this evening, he is doing such a great job, I will see what I can do about having a short story on www.nationalgaynews.com, if I am not too busy criminally trafficking in obscenity and serially destroying the world, I mean I have priorities and the baseball playoffs are tonite, so I have to focus my energies, and I am still recovering from spinal surgery.

By the way, while I am blogging here, let me thank so many of you for the kind words you have posted about me, about www.nationalgaynews.com, and how utterly moronic, stretched, and tortured the logic is that Thompson has used to accuse me of trafficking in obscenity. To say the least, it has so backfired on him and even after the order today yet again he has filed a pleading too illogical to summarize here.

Maybe Judge Jordan said it best when he wrote "Mr. Thompson's threat of a lawsuit is insufficient for me to recuse...if a judge were required to recuse whenever a litigant threatened to sue him, disgruntled parties would be able to forum shop...........just because he believes he did nothing wrong ...does not mean I have to agree with him......"

Better watch out Mr. Thompson, it's not Rowan and Martin's Laugh In, but 'Here Come Da' Judge.'
I wish that the judge from Phoenix Wright was the judge for the case... Five screw ups and it's game over.
Wow, Jack surprises me all the time. Hide your face in shame Jack. For the parody your life has become.
@Norm Kent

Glad to see you are recovering well :)

I've worked with Homophobics before, and yes, I've found myself frustrated by their assumptions, but I must admit, Mr Thompson takes the cake when it comes to sheer cliff-vaulting assumptions and bigotry.

As I've said before, I think what makes Jack angry is the fact that, for all his accusations of conspiracy it has been his actions, and his actions alone that have landed him in this situation, and he can't fix the problem because it would mean having to admit it. I'm still trying to decide with he has a superiority complex or is trying to compensate for an inferiority complex.
@Norm Kent

You rule Mr Kent. And best of luck on your recovery.
why does he keep calling dennis sweetie? he's puttin the moves on you dennis.

Hey jack does your wife know you crave cock? do you tell her all the gay porn on your computer is for legal purposes? I once knew an angry guy, he mellowed once he came out mabye jack would too.

As for the legal manouvering its all cut and paste classic thompson tactics, everyone is olut to get him so he's gonna sue the world.
It'll be funny if we see JT continue posting after his license is revoked as "jack thompson, ex attorney."

:)
Hi Norm, welcome to Game Politics.

I have a question for you actually... Are Jack's antics as completely over the top and neurotic as they seem, or are there actually other such people in the legal industry(let alone in Miami)? I just can't quite believe that he's been practicing for 31 years and not been called up over this attitude before now, unless maybe it is more commonplace than I am led to believe?

I guess I just have this stereotypical view of lawyers being straightlaced and civil. Jack has been quite the culture shock...

PS. Hope you are continuing to recover well.

Oddly enough I was reading on the NGN site that Thompson had to pay Norm Kent $50,000 for libel in 2005, he kept kinda quiet about THAT not being in the Wiki ;)
Maybe Judge Jordan said it best when he wrote “Mr. Thompson’s threat of a lawsuit is insufficient for me to recuse…if a judge were required to recuse whenever a litigant threatened to sue him, disgruntled parties would be able to forum shop………..just because he believes he did nothing wrong …does not mean I have to agree with him……”

Hey JT, you just got fucking owned by the Judge. I would think you would be used to it by now.

I think it is actually way more awesome to watch John Boy being pulled away kicking and screaming than it would if he just accepted his defeat. This is pure comedy GOLD. You simply can't make this shit up!

I can't wait for the Judge to do the legal equivalent of jamming the gavel all the way up John Boys asshole.
@ aresil

"He used the Holocaust as a reason for posting Gay Porn? And he accuses others of losing perspective?"

He said Sony was out to destroy America with a slow-motion 'Pearl Harbor 2.' It was only a matter of time before he moved on to the German side of WWII. He has Bill Gates as the anti-christ, so that must mean that sometime soon, he'll compare someone like Norm Kent or Zelnick or whoever to Mussolini (or whoever the Italian dictator was, i forget it off the top of my head)
@Davcube

He's already compared Doug Lowenstein to Goebbels, so yes, it's a matter of time, in fact, just about everything Jack has ever written has been in comparative form 'X is like Y', just read through any one of his legal filings and count how many times he tries to pull the 'comparison stunt' where he takes two completely unrelated incidents and compares them to suit his agenda.

In truth, he's a one-trick pony, and people can see how the trick is done now.
JT would make an excellent rapper. They are all about the funny metaphors.

OK, good. It was one of those instances where i was like "Wait a minute... that was him, right? I'm not sure anymore. DAMMIT!" XD

I felt like i was on "Are you smarter than a fifth grader" for a second there, lol.
@Ashton:

He has a bright career ahead of him as "Jack Thompson, pornographer." It's already a more apt title for him than "attorney," seeing as the only thing he's succeeded at lately is disseminating hardcore pornography to the general public.
I'm no lawyer, but Batman is & I've got this bizarre feeling he might actually know what he's doing somewhere here. He seems to be implying that the judge has broken a specific rule he isn't meant to & law has a lot of red tape so it might not technically be his place to point out what he considers inappropriate. Rather than risk culpability for a mistake, he might just quietly slink out. To be clear, I hope it's Jack who's being not as clever as he thinks he is, but Jack's escaped seeming madness plenty of times.
Jack Thompson probably got his license out of a cereal box.
2 GoodRobotUs

Wait what? He once paid Norm $50K? WTH isn't this on his wiki page?
@WholeFnShow

I think the problem is more that Thompson didn't actually read the order that the Judge wrote, and responded instead to what he thought it contained.

The Judge ordered Thompson to appear before him to give reason why he shouldn't send the matter on to be decided whether it should be sanctioned or not, he didn't accuse Thompson of wrongdoing, he just wanted an answer as to why he had done such a silly thing. Had Thompson merely said 'It was a mistake, I apologise and will make sure that adult material is properly filed from here onwards', it probably wouldn't have got him in trouble (though that isn't certain because he already had one count of warnings against him for filing pornographic material), Jack somehow read it as 'I'm going to get you for filing porn images'. The Judge made no such accusation, as he pointed out in his response to Thompson.

So, in truth, of Thompsons' 14 responses to the Judges request, not one of them actually addressed the issues raised in it, and instead they went off into a soap-box session about something that no-one had said.

As I stated before, I don't think Thompsons' actions will get him into trouble, the act of filing Porn was dumb, but not disbarment kind of dumb, however, his rhetoric, ranting, insults and accusations, his reaction, as it were, is a whole lot more serious than the original mistake. Thompsons need to whip everything up into being all about him and his persecution complex is far more likely to lose him his license than filing sexually related images in a court docket.
@/b/

Yup, I was as surprised as you, read up on the original article and they mentioned it on National Gay News, it was also covered in a few other places...

http://nationalgaynews.com/content/view/1742/173/

'Publisher Norm Kent is presently in litigation against Jack Thompson in Broward Circuit Court for the second time in three years, suing him for libel, slander, and defamation of character. Thompson is alleged to have called Kent a “drug addict, mentally impaired, a criminal pornographer, and an extortionist.” Similar claims cost Thompson $50,000 in 2005, when his insurance company paid Kent that amount of money in order to settle the previous libel lawsuit'
please someone put that 50,000 up on his wikipage. And please have jack thompson run for a judge position. We have so much evidence against him and hopefully he will finally and utterly humiliated that he doesnt even want to show his face in public or when he does he gets a pie to the face. His wikipage should be enough to discredit this jerk
I do find it kind of ironic that Thompsons claims of an over-arching conspiracy were utterly wrong, and yet, through his actions, he has actually succeeded in starting to bring together those he has wronged and insulted over the years, and got them exchanging views and information. He is, in many ways, starting to create the very thing he fears most, intelligent communication and co-operation between his 'enemies'.

That doesn't mean it's a conspiracy, but it does mean that we are starting to learn facts about Thompson that he would rather we didn't know, Thompson claimed he had 'nothing to hide' when he mentioned Best Buys donations to the NIMF, so it's interesting to note his selective amnesia when it came to this case.
"Similar claims cost Thompson $50,000 in 2005, when his insurance company paid Kent that amount of money in order to settle the previous libel lawsuit."

Wow, I'd check what his insurance company is and dump any stock that I have there... but I don't have any stock left. Had to dump it all for school. Of course by now, his insurance company might have dumped him for reckless behavior.
@ Kira

Correction! It was a box of Cracker Jack. ;P
Let me see if I get this right. Sell video game to minor? SATANIC EVIL CONSPIRACY!! Submit a court document onto public record full of explicit homosexual pornography? FIRST AMMENDMENT! Because kids can find it on the interwebs! Much like they can find violent video ga... oh SNAP!

Yes. That makes perfect sense.
@JackDon'tKnowJack

Actually, the Florida Bar isn’t yet directly implicated. It’s actually the Ad Hoc Committee on Attorney Admissions, Peer Review, and Attorney Grievance for the Southern District, the federal equivalent of the Florida Bar.

Whoops! Thanks for clearing that up. I thought he was running in circles in the state courts...

And the Committee, in addition to referring the matter to the Florida Bar if they so choose, can revoke any admission to practice before the court currently granted Mr. Thompson. He’d still be a Florida-licensed attorney able to pratice in Florida state courts but he’d be unable to pratice in the Southern District (i.e., federal court).

So basically what happened to him in Alabama, only on a wider scale. ;)
@Norm Kent

First off, thanks for stopping by!

I will see what I can do about having a short story on www.nationalgaynews.com, if I am not too busy criminally trafficking in obscenity and serially destroying the world

They *are* time consuming endeavors, aren't they? JT must drink a lot of Jesus juice to keep his strength up to oppose the mighty armies of hell that seem to be allied against him... :p

if a judge were required to recuse whenever a litigant threatened to sue him, disgruntled parties would be able to forum shop…

I like this judge. He doesn't take crap, and he keeps his cool when slapping someone around.

The last judge JT faced got wound up too easily.
@Soul

I have three theories as to why he uses it:

1) The most likely reason is, he is using it as an insult in this context(and the previous one). Like tauntingly calling someone schnookums(i.e. schnookums wanta cry like a little deject *censored* *censored*), but due to the limitations of the written word(at least in a forum/blog/message board context) he can't adequately convey his sarcasm and contempt.

2) He is trying to get a rise out of Dennis, either by insinuating Dennis is gay or by not giving him the proper amount of respect a journalist, no a human being, is due.

3) He is using the 'kill them with kindness' tactic.
@JC:
Yes, 3L's wouldn't make the same mistakes. I'm a 3L in law school, and one of the first things I learned about practicing law is this: "The judge is in charge." Always. It's called "discretion," and the court almost always has it. It's almost impossible to reverse a case on a discretion call. That being so, one of the most self-destructive things you can do is make the judge mad. This is why I have always been confused by Mr. Thompson's behavior.

@ The_Attorney, orangekrush, and Norm_Kent:
Thanks for representing my future profession in a positive light. Isn't it always the way that the bad lawyers get the press and the good ones go unnoticed? Lawyers like y'all make me feel a tad better about the bad reputation that some in our profession give our calling. However, the behavior of the bad ones should be taught to us in law school as examples of what NOT to be. (Seen the four YouTube videos of the drunk lawyer in Nevada? Look it up sometime. It's both hilarious and horrifying.) Perhaps I'll do my presentation in Civil Rights Law on the right to adequate legal representation, with a focus on certain current events and attorneys who have been in hot water. It's an idea.

BurnKitty
...and the "John Bruce Thompson circus" continues...however, I'm enjoying my ring side seat, I must say.
Wow this is the best.......

"Therefore, since this court has now insinuated itself into an expanded use of
“discipline” to try to silence and punish Thompson for clearly First Amendment speech"

He is not facing this new ad hoc committee because of the first amendment. It is his garrish grand standing, false statements and general ass hattery that are earning him this.....AND.........

Filing 14 separate responses to one request? That is awesome. I wish I knew what each of those 14 had in them that was so important that it couldn't be thought out and written in one single response to the court. The 14 filings are pissing this judge off and for good reason. I can't imagine Jack's real life trolling are helping either, especially trying to sue the judge in your case. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson - D'oh!
Well, I just hope Jack doesn't turn out to NOT be heterosexual. I would prefer, however selfishly, to be able to continue saying that all the gay guys I know are great people, and usually hilarious to boot. While, yes, JT is bust-a-gut funny, I only laugh AT him, not because of his wit. And under no circumstance would I consider him among even decent human beings, let alone wonderful ones.

Although, if he keeps his ability (legally) to practice law much longer, I'm going to have to start quizzing the few lawyers I know, finding out whether they, too, only keep their law practices running though smoke and mirrors.
;-P

I think too many of us give insane people too little credit. Crazy people--and darn, but now JT's the least personable crazy guy I know, too--aren't all stupid or unable to survive in normal means and professions. Those with less severe versions of disorders can be quite successful in intellectually-demanding professions, so long as the areas of their problems aren't brought into the open.

Basically, Jack doomed himself to be called out as a nutso, since he chose to litigate the things that bother his narcissistic, paranoid disorder self. By putting his obsessions out in the open, he's made it quites clear that he's not right-minded. There are a lot of types of crazy, and most of them don't destroy the ability to blame someone for their crimes (see: sociopaths and psychopaths). People who are crazy the way JT's crazy--such that it lets them live seemingly-normal lives--don't get a free pass for their insanity, they're just as culpable for their actions as the rest of us.
I figured it out, Jack is trying to increase his mistakes. hear me through. First he takes the sum of failure in his life, then do it in half the time, repeat. it starts to build up pretty quick, exponentially in fact, then soon enough we have this little episode and shortly thereafter he just explodes, hoping to have the blast either destroy the world and thus all games in it, or an emp to destroy all technology on the planet and thus all games. too bad it will just end up with him as a laughing stock and the loss of all respect and the changing of his online name to never include the assumption that he is a lawyer again
Sweetie?

Sweetie?...

Are...Are we sure he's not gay?

SWEETIE?

Also, Jack, um, I don't have a legal degree, but I think that's an impossibilty in court...
Darn it, we need edit...

Sweetie?

Sweetie?…

Are…Are we sure he’s not gay?

SWEETIE?

I wonder what JT would be like, in a world with no videogames/ gayness/ anything else he would dissagree with?
@ Cattleprod

The link you seek is here:

http://jaablog.jaablaw.com/2007/07/31/broward-attorney-sidesteps-charges...

There's all sorts of stuff in there - I believe his threat to sue is around page 3 in threaded view.
He'd just find other stuff to hate, that's all Jack Thompson can do for a living.
That was @ C'Tri by the way :)
I think the important question is he'll be calling himself after the revocation of his law license...

"Jack Thompson, Persecuted Martyr"?

"Jack Thompson, Certified Sane (Really!)"

"Jack Thompson, Anti Videogane Expert" (He seems to be as unsure about what the word "expert" means as he about winning legal strategies.

Or maybe "Jack Thompson, Will Rant for Food"
"Jack Thompson, unemployed and you're not..." :P
just send the guy to an asylum and end all this crap
I think after 31 years of a joke career, he's earned his "lawl" liscense, he's hillarious now.
@ Shrop

Well played, sir =)

Dennis, I hope he's at least bought you some flowers and taken you to a nice restaurant if he's calling you "Sweetie" in public now.
"Jack Thompson, dis-barred massacre chaser, and you're not!"

"Jack Thompson, unrivaled douchebag and you're not!"

"Jack Thompson, unemployed divorcee and you're not!"

I could do this all day! :)
@ GP FOR @ JACK THOMPSON
