October 30, 2007 -
CBS reporter Daniel Sieberg (left) has a Manhunt 2 feature planned for tonight's edition of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.Based on Sieberg's video preview, it sounds like a fairly comprehensive look at the uproar surrounding the game.
GP: Big thanks to reader Merc25 for the heads-up!

Sheer brilliance, not talking to Jack.
Stop doing that you idiot, I come to this site to see real post, including the real Jack Thompson comments to know what is going on.
Dennis has already banned people before for doing this nonsense.
When I come to this site, I do not want to get mixed up with who the real Jack Thompson is that is leaving a comment.
Thanks for the great Futurama reference...and I agree, they really should drop it. I'm getting tired of people freaking out to "protect the children" when it's only their views and interests that are coming into play.

NW2K software
I might actually watch it.
I find my increasing disdain for television media disturbing....
(Insert Star Wars joke here)
Never try that again. Ever.
That is why I have limited my television intake to only certain shows that are fictional and advertise themselves as such, not these fictional shows that advertise themselves as nonfiction.

I totally agree with you.
Bla bla bla Bully. Look where that got them!
Anyone seen the sudden surge in school bullying over the past year?
I havent!
thanks

I've seen a sidebar advert on Joystiq, but it's very non-descript, it's just an image of the cover and the name. But yes, mostly R* have hardly had to pay a dime for advertising this game, the Media and the Watchdogs have saved them a fortune, and will make them a fortune by the increased revenue all this controversy will gain them in sales.
The real irony is that the watchdogs are, apparently, too stupid to figure this out.
Ditto. I wouldn't have known of this game's existence if not for the media frenzy. I just don't look for this type of game.
Amazing.
You doubted for a moment they weren't doing this on purpose?
Or in a few decades what's the new thing they will go after?
Victory goes towards common sense, not Jack.
I don't think we will have to worry to much about this sort of thing in the decades to come. As the next generation of people, with their less oppressive moral values come to power, things that would give the current leading generation a heart attack will not phase us. Our younger generations also have a lot more tolerance for the rights and beliefs of others. This is my hope at least.
This is the closest to a decent mass media take on the subject that I've seen.
Wii Sports. Just because it comes with the system.
The second game? Manhunt 2 - out of spite and enjoyment.
Third? Resident Evil 4
Then I move onto Zelda, Rayman, Metroid, etc, in some order I haven't decided yet.
Katie Couric is still an idiot for her last line at the end the the piece about how she couldn't imagine anyone wanting to play it. I would have liked to throw back the same thing to her about certain movies that are even more disturbing about Manhunt and are more popular.
GP: One Logan Square being the location of (one of) Jack's (many) demons, the Blank Rome law firm...
He make joke, see?
Oh and in order to ensure more free publicity Rockstar needs to only do one thing: Announce the possibility of a sequel.
I understand, video games, movies, tv shows, they're all fake.
I will only accept government regulation of video games if, AND ONLY IF, the government also censors movies and television shows (even more then they do now).
Parents need to be involved. READ how to set the parental controls on their child's console, and more importantly UNDERSTAND THEY LIVE IN A FREE SOCIETY WHERE THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ENJOY DIFFERENT THINGS.
If we all found the same stuff repulsive, what would we be?
Dan Rather was much better. Its a shame a some bad information he investigated ended up forcing him to retire. Dan Rather understands neutrality in media, and cherished it. He didn't try to put his own twist on it, like what Katie Couric did tonight. The only reason why the mass media gets away with horse-shit like this is because they know we're not "loud enough" in our eyes.
If CBS did an news story about how violent Saw 4, The Hills have Eyes, or other Halloween B horror films are, I'm pretty sure Hollywood would be in a fuckin' uproar.
/rant off
Yes, M rated games have violent imagery. R rated games have violent imagery. Why does this surprise you?
"Hey, there was a mass suicide at One Logan Square in Philly this evening. It appears game related."
Yeah. Good luck trying to prove a causal relationship in that situation Jack.
They weren't in the CBS piece, the images weren't "devestating", and a mass suicide that isn't on any news site?
Are you trying distraction tactics now? Fail.
