Knoxville Manhunt 2 Coverage Focuses on Wii Control

November 1, 2007
Knoxville's WATE-6 serves up a video report on the Manhunt 2 controversy.

Reporter Harlow Sumerford reviews the issues surrounding the game but the meat of his story focuses on the use of the Wii controller to simulate Manhunt 2's violent movements.

yay, well no matter what, its still boils down to the fact that this is a mature product, and that no minor should have this. It doesn't matter, Wii or PS2 or PSP. Its all the same. You're only stabbing at air anyway.
first?
Again?
i'm growing so tired of hearing Manhunt2 being everywhere. at least JT is funny to laugh at.
@ C'tri

It will all die down by next week. No one will care by then as they will have moved on to the next sensationalist item.
/shrug

If you don't want your kids to have it....DON"T GET IT FOR THEM.

Simple I know, but common sense seems to be severely lacking with these "watchdog" extremist groups and ratings hungry news types.
*yawn*
reports like this only serve to further illustrate the the mainstream press doesn't know the first thing about videogames. 'a first person killer fantasy game' is how they describe it.

i hope when the next really violent horror movie comes out, the media urge parents to take a second look before taking their kids to see it.
Same as every other U.S. news report. Still haven't heard a thing about Manhunt 2 up here in Canada.
umm doesn't it only take simple hand movements? correct me if i am wrong but a flick of the wrist is what it takes to get the wii controller to recognize your movement. hmmmm yeah flicking my wrist is gonna train me how to kill people.
@ hackangel

Haven't heard a thing here in Europe either.
That expression = priceless XD
Memo to those concerned about the Wii Manhunt 2
The Nintendo Wii has Parental Controls. The parent has the ability to block out the game.
@ Sean

Agreed =)

@ rdeegvainl

Correct. I guess it might teach someone to kill with throwing knives or something...

All I really see wrong with it is that it's more likely to cause Wiimote-through-the-screen incidents =)
@ lumi

Is that a jab at the reported flying Wiimotes? :)
Edit:

actually finished your comments and I must say I feel sheepish now. :S

Most parents aren't going to care about the parental controls. Sadly a lot of parents won't even give a damn about what thier kids got some grown ups to buy for them. And sadly it isnt the games fault for bad kids upbringing, it's the parents.

Anyway, this report was pretty fair and straight forward....though I wish they didnt go straight to the parents for questions. And the mother talking baout not letting her 17-year old buy the game..hahaha. Otherwise, they put it on the button, Manhunt 2 is a crappy game (from the reviews I read, and the only thing people will find interesting about is the violence.

For a good violent game, buy Dementium for the DS.
Yeah, very few of actual players of the Wii actually stand up and make overt motions to get the wii controls to work, with any of the games. I was playing Wii sports sitting down with some slight flicks of my wrist, and also some of the other games...

Just because it has motion controls doesn't mean they accurately recreate the actual motions. Which I don't need a game to teach me, by the way, I am fully aware of how to stab someone without Manhunt 2.
Pointy end goes *that* way!

lol, Dude, that guy, the news reporter who was playing it, he looked like he was really enjoying it, getting into it with the motion control punching. That was hilarious.
The gestapo of moral facism continues its crusade against artistic freedom, video games for adults, and moral autonomy. A striking new development: the wii controller requires more realistic input commands.

For our friends in the "moral majority:"

Your ficticious and backwards moral creed holds no influence over myself and others who reject your superstition. We see nothing immorral, hurtful, or wrong with interactive graphical depictions of violence and sex. These depictions do not harm anyone.
Anyone who's actually played these would know that increased body motion = LESS immersion.
"The gestapo"

Please, capitalise Gestapo. Or, better yet, replace it with the Waffen SS.
i like watch these little news channels, they got the BREAKING STORY flash. top reporters...out hitting the streets. dont they know they are just helping increase the 'hype' ?!?

JDKJ: Which could be explained by both (a) and (b).
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:56am
Austin_Lewis: JDKJ: You forgot C) the fact that, for some reason, every time he did something that would suggest he shouldn't be in the military, let alone an officer, higher ups ignored it or let it slide.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:51am
JDKJ: Part of the problem is, I believe, that (a) the Army had a lot of time and money already invested in him and which they were unwilling to simply write-off and (b) an increasing need for the type of skills and services he provided.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:48am
JDKJ: And that even if he was begging not to get cut loose, he was apparently a real good candidate for being cut loose, anyway.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:11am
JDKJ: @chada: And while Kennedy once noted that there's usually more than enough blame for everyone to get a slice, the possibility that the Army was unwilling to cut loose someone who was asking to get cut loose could be a factor.

JDKJ: But if it turns out that they actually did, they'll have Hell to pay.
Posted 11/07/09 at 09:45am
JDKJ: And I'd tend to rule out the possibilty of FN Herstal supplying restricted ammunition to someone merely because they're ordering it from a military base.
Posted 11/07/09 at 09:37am
JDKJ: I know you don't leave your gated community and get around much in dark alleys, so you may be surprised to learn that there's this thing called "the black market" where, if you've got enough money, ain't too much of anything which can't be bought.
Posted 11/07/09 at 09:36am
Austin_Lewis: Or, maybe he or someone else at the base ordered the SS190 from FN Herstal.
Posted 11/07/09 at 09:32am
Austin_Lewis: the hands of private owners. They run about 300 dollars minimum for a box of 50, and boxes of AP 5.7 are extremely scarce, mainly residing in the hands of Class III stores or individuals who for one reason or another got a demo box of it.
