Missouri Guv Targeted in Online Political Attack Game

November 23, 2007
Can you shine a light on Missouri Governor Matt Blunt (R) before he deletes official state government e-mails?

That's the premise of Matt Blunt, Document Destroyer, an online whack-a-mole clone created by Missouri Democrats to lampoon a recent scandal over e-mail deletions by Blunt staffers.

As reported by the Kansas City Star,
The [game's] opening page says that Blunt “has been up to no good, destroying public records in clear violation of Missouri’s Sunshine Law.” It accuses Blunt of breaking the law and trying to cover it up.

It then asks the player, “Can you shine the light on Matt Blunt before he deletes all of the incriminating e-mails on his office computers?”

Republican spokesman Paul Sloca told the Star:
While Democrats prefer to spend their time and donor resources on frivolous pursuits in a make-believe world, Gov. Blunt and Republicans are focused on real world concerns like improving the quality of life for all Missourians, which is certainly no game.

Missourians want grownups running the state, not children, which is why Republicans continue to be so successful and Democrats continue to play political games instead of offering solutions.

GP: Using games to advance political messages is becoming an increasingly prevalent tactic. We're okay with it, but can the politicos please, please come up with something more creative and original than another variation of whack-a-mole?

Apparently the republican hasn't heard about the whack hillary clinton game.

sorry, but the name is spused to be Konola, not Konoa.

We’re okay with it, but can the politicos please, please come up with something more creative and original than another variation of whack-a-mole?

Here, here. I second that.

While Democrats prefer to spend their time and donor resources on frivolous pursuits in a make-believe world, Gov. Blunt and Republicans are focused on real world concerns like improving the quality of life for all Missourians

And focused on deleting emails. Let's not forget that. ;)

Can't say I care too much for the implication that the involvement of games necessarily means the involvement of children. On the other hand, can't say I'm too surprised by it, either.

"Missourians want grownups running the state, not children,"

Careful your bigotry is showing. This "games if for childrens!" thing is growing oh so tiresome.

That last sentence is a hilarious joke.

Oh, was he serious? Huh, then politicians are even more deluded than I thought, impossible as that seems. They don't see it as harmful, childish, and reprehensible to lie in a political office, commit illegal acts, and waste taxpayer funds, yet they condem political satire as childish?

And they wonder why younger people consider politics a worthless joke.

Just when you think they'd run out of stupid things to attack.

As a Missourian, that's awesome.

Matt Blunt isn't even going to win his party's nomination as he's going to get defeated in the primaries, LOL.

"Missourians want grownups running the state, not children, which is why Republicans continue to be so successful and Democrats continue to play political games instead of offering solutions."

Yes, and while the GOP is fucking up the country during 8 years of militaristic imperialism, democrats can actually laugh at you.
The assertion that games are for children, amongst other things, is why the GOP should just DIE.

how about pinball or simonsays. I know! Why stop at video games! Let's make a political version of Bopit, monopoly, Sorry! YES! THIS IS THE ANSWER TO POLITICS! G-A-M-E-S!

This is great, especially as the average age of a gamer in the US is 31! I'm sure their implication that "games are just for kids" didn't escape anybody's notice and no elctorate likes being patronized.

I realise that gamers aren't a huge demographic (yet), but I'm still surprised how blatantly ill-informed they are. Probably due to laziness - much less effort to reach for old stereotypes than engage in real research.

Andrew EisenI still say the particular word or phrase the MPAA uses to describe what it's fighting against is the least of its problems.05/22/2012 - 1:12pm

Lisa PhamIanC - if you read/looked at the report (PDF and written) then you'd see where they failed and why. Some games have come close to passing and some have passed. The list of games evaluated. http://www.reclaimyourgame.com/content.php/18-RYG-Evaluations05/21/2012 - 5:49pm

E. Zachary KnightYeah, that's how I feel about retail exclusive DLC too. ;)05/21/2012 - 3:37pm
RedMageThat's what I started to figure too. They seem to have trouble coming up with an effective scare tactic. At one point they referred to it as "online looting" which just sounds stupid.05/21/2012 - 3:34pm
E. Zachary KnightOf all the sucky suckiness that ever sucked. Lego Batman 2 will suffer from sucky retailer exclusive DLC. Suck! http://tinyurl.com/ckq67vg05/21/2012 - 3:30pm
E. Zachary KnightAs for Dodd, I think it is mostly that he realizes that calling copyright infringement "theft" is bad for PR and that they need to change tactics. Just like how they went from using "piracy" to using "theft."05/21/2012 - 1:48pm
E. Zachary KnightIan, I think in this case, the rating is well deserved. To get a good rating, I would assume that a company would have to release the game with no DRM, or at least fully disclosed DRM.05/21/2012 - 1:46pm
IanCLisa - what do companies have to do to get a good rating from that site?05/21/2012 - 12:54pm
