Forget GTA IV Bus Ads... Check These Out

April 23, 2008
Jack Thompson, Fox News and the Chicago Transit Authority want to ban bus ads for Grand Theft Auto IV.

But these multi-story ads adorn the graceful Hotel Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles and, somehow, the republic still stands...

Kotaku reported about those a few days ago.
Hey Jack Thompson.

Eat it.

That is all.
There's also a gigantic wall mural painted in Brooklyn of Niko.
Just a matter of time before we read something about this involving Jack Thompson.

I could just imagine if Jack Thompson was either living or working in a building that had a big GTA 4 ad hanging on the building. HE WOULD REALLY BE GOING CRAZY
OMG that is awesome!

lol that would probably give joke thompson a fucking heart attack!
Thompson's probably trying to find some sort of legal loophole to property rights, which should be pretty hard seeing as he has no legal power since the Florida BAR castrated him.

LOL I can't wait for the CCFC to complain that its oversexualizing American's young females of tomorrow.......
If I owned buildings in the future I would do the same thing for a major GTA game.

I could just see Jack Thompson outside of the building rallying about them having the images for children.
Yes!!! Thats amazing!
That...
Is the most badass thing I've ever seen.
We should definitely drape one of these over Jack's lawn and see the fun unfold.
THAT IS SOO FREAKIN' COOL
Now THAT's what I call advertising.
That's a great artistic advertisement idea! Johnny Bruce Thompson/PTC/"miscellaneous watchdog organizations"-sucks to be you...
The guy on the far right was holding a gun, now holding money.

Lol
That reminds me of the movie pleasantville where an artist's work was destroyed so they painted on the side of the police station.
Take that and shove it up your ass Jacko!
Priceless...It's kind of like T2 just waved a big middle finger at Mr. Thompson.
Damn... o_o

I hope JT shits himself to death seeing this! Fudge the bus ads, this is epic. And those are some of the coolest ads I have ever seen. The only thing that would top this is broadcasting this on the clouds, that would rock.
Haha! Lets see Jack try it now! Woo-Hoo! Way o go, GTA!
Hehe.

It almost makes me want to play GTAIV,but alas,I don't care much for the game.
ROFL,HAHA (suk it nubs)
Also ,if the building owner allowed it there's not shit anyone can do as it isn't public property
I predict this angry e-mail in the next few hours:

"To the retards it may concern (sorry for the oxymoron):

You have banners on your hotel advertising pr0n to teh kiddies. You have two hours to take them down. OR ELSE.

Jack Thompson, vigilante, and you're not"

Sadly, aside from the word 'vigilante' and the chatspeak, i'm not exaggerating what that'll probably be.
You can't really see it, but it you blow up the picture, you can see JT with a pair of scissors trying to cut them down. Man has the heart of lion and the brain of a pea.....
Somewhere, Jack Thompson is having a brain anyeurism! :D

What did I say earlier in the last thread? Taking down a bus stop ad is nothing when you've got ads like this!
That... is... fucking... awesome.
touche, take 2!
touche!
TTPDBJT. Take Two Pwned Dat Biotch Jack Thompson. It's not great, but I'll take it.
I can't wait to see what Jack "the jackass" Thompson has to say about this. These next 6 days should be pretty interesting
That is just... wow... so totally freaking awesome.

We all know the message though; It's a big old fuck you to Jacko
Now THAT'S how you put up a gaming ad.
Hey!!!! Let's not stop there!

Maybe one day we can have GTA ads beamed directly into our head.

Sure, they might us brain tumors the size of footballs.
But won't it totally kick ass?

Viva la revolution de los jugadores! (Long live the gaming revolution!)
Yeah, I don't plan on playing GTA IV, only because I'm not a big GTA fan. I play mostly FPS's instead. But if I owned a huge office building, and if the workers on one side all agreed, I would totally put a poster for GTA IV on it. Or Mass Effect 2.

OOOOOOOooo! Just wait until the Project Origin ads come out! That'll get the PTA reeling.

Note: I'd put that on my building, too.
@Chaplain99

Yeah, me neither. Now MGS4, that would be a no question situation. :)
What would be even more cooler will be them laser project the trailer on to the clouds at night for all to see, ala bat signal.
Wow. Now that is an epic sight to see!
Wow, that is soooooooo cool. Hey Jacko, have you seen this? Isn't this beautiful
Best wallpaper ever!

Kinda reminds me of the trick you had to do for the movie studio in vice city, beaming the ad onto the side of a building with a searchlight.

When jack finally snaps & tries the jump off a building suicide route, we should try to catch him in one of those banners. It'll finally solve the question of whether jack's hate for GTA is stronger than the power of gravity, he may end up suspended in mid air...
As malcom said in Jurrasic Park:

"Nature will always find a way."

In this case, human nature.
Perhaps LA and New York are moral cesspools beyond hope of redemption. (I hear there are even homosexualists living there...)

Perhaps LA and New York are moral cesspools beyond hope of redemption. (I hear there are even homosexualists living there…)

I've heard they respect women too! Clearly there's insanity at work!
Jacko.

F*ck you.
@Shih Tzu

How...dare you!

...You forgot Texas and Florida
And that sound, ladies and gents is Mr Thompson shitting himself
I think that at the beginning of next week there will be alot of fun from Jack Thompson's news appearance and nonsense letters warning about keeping the EXTREMELY DANGEROUS item away from kids.

I am getting very mad with these people trying to violate my freedom to play the kind of games I want.
TT should have a billboard constructed outside JTs home, to;

a)Piss him off
b)Instant-controversy and word of mouth publicity
c)PISS HIM OFF
That's a big poster!

Just thinking as an offhand, they could put a poster for a different product on each wall and rotate the apartment blocks by 90' every 30 seconds like those electronic billboards, that'd be cool, well, for everyone who didn't live in them ;)
That is so increadable Awesome
Thompson's gonna have a fit.
and when I say fit I mean tantrum
I could see Jack Thompson trying to get into contact with the owner of the building and threaten to take action even though the owner has every right to post that.
Wow this is awesome!!!!
Why do I feel like that's the advertising version of "Bite me!"?

:D

Hence my first post above. If you're not familiar with his 'orders' before, he actually DOES talk like that to people/retailers/etc.

Example: "Best Buy, remove all copies of GTA:SA from your store by 5 PM today, or else. If you don't you're part of the conspiracy against me." (or some other store and/or game. He usually sends these things, like, at noon on the days in question with some miniscule window for people to even check their mail, let alone bend to the will of something that's no better than hatemail.)

For some reason he thinks his lisence to practice law is the legal equivalent of a police badge or something.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA XD ! Sometimes the things that Rockstar does gets on my nerves a bit, but this, this is just brilliant XD .
I haven't ever played GTA before, but I might pick this one up, depending on user reviews. If it has the Bully issues (crashing, locking up, etc...) then I might give it a pass.

The closest thing I've ever done to GTA was Oblivion. I was never sure if I was doing the right quests or the right order or any thing. Always felt like I was missing something. Not sure if this game will do that to me or not.
Lets paint Jacko's lawn with a GTA VI add...that would be the next best thing imo -_^
wow i want those.......
wow i want those.......
I get the message of a big F*** you Jack Thompson, love Rockstar and Take-two. With the cheer size of those ads.
Otaku,
Heh, oh behave. :D

Now, what would be funny is if a neighbor of his pulled out two flags an hung them up on their porch:
A US Flag
A flag with the same GTA IV ad as on that Flordia bus stop in a prior article.

Now THAT would be hilarious!

This is so cool!
hey any one that is lucky enough to live in one of the cities these are being posted......can you gab a hi-res pic of these for a background? i would love to have the LA one as a wall paper. sometihng in 1680*1050 would be awesome.......
FREEDOM! Give me liberty! Way to go, LA. That's a slap in the face of our opressors!
f***ing awesome.
im in for the hi res pic too
@ DavCube

Exactly, he is always saying to people that they have a certain amount of time to reply or he will take action. An example I really remember was when there was a mission in GTA 4 announced in a game magazine that has to do with an attorney and Jack Thompson said that he demands that they take him out of the game within 48 hours. He said that he will not tolerate his life getting threatened. He does not even know if the attorney is him in the game for him to act that way.
I ran across a blog post that illustrates just how ignorant and stupid the people who are upset about the GTA4 ads really are: http://boesky.blogspot.com/2008/04/advertising-wrong-kind-of-special.htm...

In it the poster shows some ads for the Sopranos that ran on busses and one that I had forgotten about that had an arm hanging out of the trunk of taxis with a Sopranos bumper sticker next to it.

If Sopranos can advertise by trying to make people -- including *gasp* children! -- that there is a dead person in a trunk then I think that GTA4 can have ads up on buses and at bus stops.
Nice!
WIN!
I've said it in another post...GTA games are well-known for being aggressively marketed, much more so than any other mainstream game. Halo 3 can't touch it. Madden can't touch it. GTA gets treated like a huge dictator, a cult of personaliyt. Guess it's only a matter of time before Take Two creates a Niko promotional statue!

I'd say it's another way of how video games are coming into their own in mainstream culture. But it would be cool to see other kinds of games being advertised in this nature.
Kick ass!

Now THAT'S the First Ammendment in action :D
that's awesome! I always stay at the Figueroa when i'm in LA for E3- it's a really nice kind of strange hotel, and it's only a couple of blocks from the staples center/convention center.
Man oh man. Every time I see it I can only admire how gorgeous the art for GTA4 is.
TeeHee?
I'll mark this up as a win for us then
Let it be known that this has to be the biggest corporate bitch-slap of all time!!!
@Altair

AMEN, BROTHER!!! (In the battle of Gamer Society V. Thompson, we are all brothers and sisters)
The greatest ad of all time. Not even the Shadowman grave could beat this.
GET THE ANTI GAMERS AWAY FROM THAT! they might explode seeing that!
[...] The actual link: There’s a new documentary film for gamers, this time taking a look at the world, as in, real-world, lives of MMO players. The film is called, Second Skin. Let the new digital and celluloid record bare witness to the underground world of cyber-sexing and poop-socking! Former Take2 exec/CEO, Ryan Brant is back in power once more, this time with a new start-up game company, known as GreenScreen Interactive. Since the Chicago Trans-Authority banned the recent bus adverts after severe pressure from Fox News and Jack-y-boy Thompson, it seems almost as if Take2 is raising the stakes with the newly witnessed full building adverts in LA and NY for GTAIV. Also of note, Jack-y-boy’s recent comments and erm, thoughts, if the term can be used on the Florida based bus-stop poster adverts for GTAIV as well, which very specifically included absolutely zero questionable material in both the visual and copy portions of the promotional material. According to Ubisoft’s CEO, they are looking positively to a possible big-name merger in the very near future, and in the interim are on a large scale hiring spree, boosted by very positive sales of their products in 2007 to current. Ubisoft could see as many as 900 additional and newly hired staff members. [...]

Austin_Lewis: Health insurance, brought to you by the same kind of bureacrats who couldn't, in timely fashion, investigate the comments of any of the men Obama appointed Czars. Or their past. Or their history of not paying taxes.

Austin_Lewis: Yes, and what a piece of crap it was. Arresting and fining people just because they don't make a personal choice to buy healh insurance, creating over a hundred new bureacracies, and worse.

Posted 11/07/09 at 10:56am
Austin_Lewis: JDKJ: You forgot C) the fact that, for some reason, every time he did something that would suggest he shouldn't be in the military, let alone an officer, higher ups ignored it or let it slide.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:51am
JDKJ: Part of the problem is, I believe, that (a) the Army had a lot of time and money already invested in him and which they were unwilling to simply write-off and (b) an increasing need for the type of skills and services he provided.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:48am
JDKJ: And that even if he was begging not to get cut loose, he was apparently a real good candidate for being cut loose, anyway.
Posted 11/07/09 at 10:11am
JDKJ: @chada: And while Kennedy once noted that there's usually more than enough blame for everyone to get a slice, the possibility that the Army was unwilling to cut loose someone who was asking to get cut loose could be a factor.

JDKJ: I know you don't leave your gated community and get around much in dark alleys, so you may be surprised to learn that there's this thing called "the black market" where, if you've got enough money, ain't too much of anything which can't be bought.
