We've just had an e-mail from Miami attorney Jack Thompson (left) to say that he would be on the Glenn Beck program on CNN Headline News this evening at 7PM & 9PM Eastern (second one is a repeat)...GTA IV will be the topic, along with, apparently, Thompson's issues with the Florida Bar.
Thompson will also be on NPR's Talk of the Nation at 2:40 PM Eastern.
UPDATE: It's on as I type this. Adam Sessler from G4TV is leading off... Now a guy who played GTA IV for 28 hours straight... Now Thompson, who says that he is portrayed in the game and claims that gamers vandalized his house last night.

That is all to common. Apparently the only way they are stop a game from selling is to make people tried of hearing about it. I have learned to hate games I never played just because even after the game stops being popular there will be some group that will bring it back up just to bash on it. Toss in JBT who never knows when to quit and.... well you can pretty much figure out the rest.

evidently Glenn Beck thinks GTA IV is a kids' game. Ironically enough, he wrote a book with this tagline:

So he is likely ti discuss the Florida Bar eh? Figure he is going to try to make them look high handed or criminal. Show how Judge Tunis is against him and should be stripped of her robes (before she can do anything to him). Sad the things that draw news.

I can't see any serious peoples seeing this trash. Jack won't get any more audience that he got with Fox News.
He's going to just ask JT questions out of the "Questions JT wants to be asked" handbook, agree with everything he says wholeheartedly, then claim afterwards that he asked tough questions and got real legitimate answers based on facts.
I wrote a comment to him asking if he'll discuss the many John Bruce quotes available on his wikiquote page. Or if he'll mention that GTA IV was not designed for children etc. I was very respectful.

It is important for us all to be paying attention to this. With the popularity of Second Life being a political arena now, the idea that video game releases are now being considered potential cinerama box office money siphons, and how much publicity that games are getting (TV shows, news segments, constant coverage on the interwebs etc), the importance of us watching this and respond is undeniable.
We have to speak up for our hobbies. As sad as it is that these people let so much fear, and snobbish attitudes rule their lives, we have to be able to listen.

He is kinda over the top when it comes to culture issues, but he's not as bad as Michael "Movies with smoking should be rated R" Medved. On politics, he really does have a lot of common sense, but seriously, if games really were training kids to visit prostitutes and then kill them, how come it never actually happens in real life? There are an incredible amount of gamers in the country. I don't know how many so I won't speculate, but if they really were "murder simulators", how come there isn't rioting?
I was just going to say that. The people that watch shows like Glenn Beck and have people like Jack Thompson on have alreayd made up their minds and will agree. There is nothing we can do to change their minds.

no way glenn rips into him. Glenn totally agrees with jack. according to the discussion they put on glenn's website today. he things games alone are the single cause for the depravity of our culture.
In addition to what other have predicted he'll say, chances are he'll also talk about how all of us gamers are "morons" and that Dennis and the ECA are "industry shills."
Fortunately I take solace in the fact that Jack continues to lose credibility with each passing day and he won't be a lwayer for much longer. At this point, people are starting to get wise to Jack. People are now seeing that after several GTA games, civilzation has yet to collapse, regardless of Jack predictions of how the latest game will put people "in the ground." :P
Yes, please. Both of you write a letter to him. You can honestly say you were fans of his show and can couch the language in such a way that he will understand where you car coming from. I'm afraid that if I tried I would come off as being critical, contradictory, and offensive. Just reading his show excerpt on it I wanted to scream. There are three people and two of them think the game is fine, but of course it is the host who is sure he is correct even though he is in the minority.
For the record, I'll be giving this a pass. I think that watching that would give my blood preasure more of a rise then getting hit with three blue shells right before I would have finished Star Road with tripple starts on the 150cc class.
I, personally, would love to believe that there is a conspiracy against him because then he would have something to do besides trolling all news sources for tragedies around the world he can blame on video games.
I am just waiting for something big to happen like a tornado hit a nuclear plant and it explodes. Jack Thompson jumps into action (on Fox, of course) and immediately starts blaming Sim City because it teaches people who to control the weather to destroy facilities like nuclear power plants and that it is a civilian killing simulator.
I am surprised we didn't see him on Fox talking about every hunting arcade game on the planet when Dick Cheney shot his friend while hunting. Maybe his wife wasn't sick at the time and had the strength to prevent him from looking like a complete ass.
I guess he will talk about all the violence in the history of the world and how it was all based on primitive video games and how the illuminati has plans to kidnap him to help increase their profit shares with the Take 2 EA deal and they won't stop prank calling him until he does.
Why anyone would give him a spot on national tv, let alone the time of day (looks a little pedo... ish in his picture there) to spread more propaganda is beyond me.

Did the ECA get Adam to do this, or did he do it on his own? Or was it just Rockstar's doing? Whoever it is, they do need a round of applause for taking the incentive, especially if it is the ECA for putting someone with the facts against the lairs & misinformed.
Like the ECA admitted in the past, their problem was ignoring such issues and letting "massacre chasers" take over.
Thompson's response was a petulant, "I'm not telling you."

I don't think you will get fair and balanced reporting from any source that has made up it's mind about the story before they investigate it.
I also doubt the veracity of Jack's statement, as we all know he loves to play the victim/martyr card (as most Born Agains do) and will take any opportunity to make us gamers look bad.
If true, however, it only continues to demonstrate how dense Jack is. The notion that he has brought all this trouble on himself because he has acted like a total dick to just about everyone he has met continues to escape him.
I know every time I try to spray paint graffiti on someone's house, that damn cord gets in the way.

I personally think it is the all-time best Fantasy-themed movie made. It just works too well in too many ways, and never takes itself really seriously, but still provides an awesome story :)
Props to Adam for handling most things very well. Only catch was he was too eager to expose Jack's comments.
Some props to the reviewer who was 28 hours into the game. He was able to provide some info on the contents.
No props to JT, who phailed. Came off as fairly offensive. What is funny is that the game only has a label for partial nudity, which is likely either a thong or a fleeting glimpse of the buttocks. And yet it seems to be the hardest (hetero) porn that JT has ever seen. Why does this not surprise me?
Was pretty disappointed in the one caller who called in with the collectors edition. He sounded pretty bad. Just sounded like the stereo typical fan boy, complete with speach impediment. He didn't help the image and his responses were more damaging the JT's, I feel.
As for Amy who was upset at her husbang playing the game... have you talked to him about it? Have you had a conversation asking why he found things funny which upset you? Is this the games fault, his fault, your fault, or just a case of miscommunication?

I actually am waiting for the hype to die down, but it will be some time before people stop blaming games.
Look up "Glen Beck" and "Iranian video game" on youtube to hear his one-sided represention of the Iranian student-made game responding to a campaign in the game "Kuma War" (he never mentioned why the Iranian students made the game).
His recent rant a few months back complaining about the war between HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray. He was angry about how geeks determined the hi-def format and connected to how the PS3 having a Blu-Ray drive (he was angry about the gamers role in how Blu-Ray won the format war). He got many facts wrong in his story (Transformers used to be HD-DVD exclusive, instead he said that it was Blu-Ray exclusive).
In my own opinion, it really not surprising to hear that John Bruce will be apearing on his show.
