Tivo Alert: Grand Theft Childhood Authors on Glenn Beck Tonight

Tivo Alert: Grand Theft Childhood Authors on Glenn Beck Tonight

May 5, 2008
Last week we were treated to Jack Thompson's view of Grand Theft Auto IV on the Glenn Beck program.

This evening we'll hear what should be quite a different perspective as Drs. Cheryl Olson and Lawrence Kutner, authors of Grand Theft Childhood: The Surprising Truth About Violent Video Games will appear on Beck's show.

(CNN Headline News, 7PM & 9PM).

Comments

@The Bobman

You are awesome hello fellow browncoat.
This is going to be nothing but another hate the gamers and the games rant by Glenn Beck.

Nothing constructive will come out of this.
loudspeaker,

true. but at least he does not have sir jackington the 3rd to cover his ass this time.
Wow this guy is fucking whiny.

This is going to turn out well.
If every gamer was to send him a letter about how ignorant he was coming off then wouldn't it atleast show him that gamers aren't going to let him get away with his slander?
Hmm....im a bit interested in this...maybe all of our negative feedback to CNN promped this? woot!
I welcome this. It'll likely make Glenn Beck shocked, but it'd be a shame if their ratings drop from the sensationalism not kicking in when the authors start preaching their views. Good luck doctors, hopefully you will be heard by parents.
Glenn Beck belongs on Faux News, I think the only reason CNN has him on there is to try to deflect some of the "liberal media bias" criticisms that Faux Noise is constantly firing their way.
They should bring Jack Thompson back on as well. So that they can put him in his place.
Hmm. I don't know what to say. I'm not going to go out of my way to catch this, but I hope the authors don't take any crud from Glenn.
Nah, he's just there because they couldn't get anyone else. He and Nancy Grace are there because they fit the Fox News mould and CNN is trying to attract those viewers.
Also, could someone please record and Youtube this as well (for those of us who will not be able to catch it >_
Hopefully Beck won't shout them down or tell them they're crazy, and hopefully they'll set him straight and correct some of the fallacies and outright lies JT said on his appearance earlier. Yeah, I'd like to think this came about as a result of the responses he got to last week's show as well. And it'll be interesting to hear his reaction to it if he decides to mention it.
Waiting for the youtube video but I want to see this nevertheless. I won't be suprised that if Glenn does not listen to reason like ALL anti-video game people.
Hopefully things will go smoothly :) .
Why does Headline News have programs in the first place. What part of "headline news" is so confusing?

Hopefully the authors will call Beck out on claiming that GTA has rape in it like he did in the Jacko show opener and correct the Cho lie that Jacko told.
Will this be available online? I'm not from the US.
Bets on Beck using a Bill O'Reilly esque mic cut? Or will he just allow some idiot from the PTC all time?
I really hope they can make a stand about videogames, even when they aren´t really upholding the industry, but their research.

I can imagine Jack Thompson, comparing them with nazis or child molesters, because for Jack, in his little mind, he thinks that everyone who protect videogames are child molesters.

Oh, the conspirancy!...
It's a trap!
Glenn Beck was ok on radio - but after he got his TV show, his commentary just went to the dogs.

Do they like put implants in your head when you get these shows on TV or with Major Networks?
It's still Glenn Beck, which means it's still trash TV.
Yea, I was very disappointed with Mr. Beck's lack of objectivity. The last stint was quite one sided. He did mention on his radio show that because of the gaming community's 'retaliation' to his show, he was going to 'rant' again about video games. So either the fine authors are walking into an ambush, or he is doing this as a way to say he is sorry for being an idiot.
To TheRoosterRngr:

I really hope is the last one. He even can make a series about negative and positive impact of videogames, that should be good.

Maybe all the mails gamers have sended to him refering to the book have alerted him.
maby this time it wont be such a cluster fuck
No, it's an ambush. I agree 100% with Admrable Ackbar.

He will do his best to discredit them and hold himself up high.

Again, I don't need to see this, so I won't be watching, I'll just pick up the story tomorrow.
@Admiral Ackbar
LOL
I Have You Now
Yeah as soon as I read the GP headlines...I also thought trap.
@ Rodrigo Ybáñez García

Yea, I haven't lost my hope that all humans are naturally good inside, so here is hoping he will not be an ass and let the gaming community have their say. If he was a nobody, I would not care so much about what goes on on his show, but a few members of my family watch, and I know many people look to this guy to tell them what to think of stuff. How he handles this interview will decide what I think of him.
Here is the CNN transcripts site. Currently has text of the Thompson interview (about made me vomit) and I assume tonights show will be on there eventually, as well.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/gb.html
Y'all were watching I take it?
yes
Did you see us fight?
no
TRAP!
Watch Beck act in a completely different manner in comparison to the Thompson show. Or at least apologise.

It's all about ratings, guys...
Oh joy more mindless rambling from Glenn. :P
Assuming he doesn't filibuster (and that's not like Glenn Beck) and lets them get their view point out...

Then some of the massive respect I lost for him with the Jack Thompson interview will be restored. But not all of it, no.
Radio personalities (and TV, too) are experts at controlling the dialog to make people who disagree with them sound ineffective. Changing the subject, interrupting, asking questions that make no real logical sense. They can leave many interview victims stumbling about and looking confused and frustrated.

This is what I expect from the Glen Beck show tonight. Hopefully, the Drs. are prepared and have some fire in thier guts. Don't let him talk down to, or over, you.
This is gonna be good.
Any chance somebody will take pity on the non-americans and put this on youtube? Pretty please? =D
[...] In an interesting turn of events, the authors of Grand Theft Childhood are going to be on Beck’s show tonight. It should be interesting to see how a more objective point of view is portrayed. I just hope it doesn’t end up like Geoff Keighley’s appearance a while back. [...]
I predict Beck froths at the mouth and cuts their mic after 2 minutes when they don't confirm what he wants to hear.
@Vinzent: Even if Beck does cut them off after 2 minutes, that's still more airtime than Johnny Brucie got! :)
Have any video game critics actually played the games they're criticizing? Beck claimed that there was rape in GTA IV (not true, in fact,
if you let Dwayne's girlfriend live, you can meet her later in a random encounter and beat up her abusive boyfriend
). In another report I read, the "journalist" claimed that you could sell pornography to children. There aren't even children in these games.

Memo to Rockstar Games:

You have lawyers; sue for slander. One successful lawsuit against one of these guys and your problems are solved. I'll bet more people follow the trial than the O.J. trial.
I would love to see a discussion between these two and ol' Jack.
Hmm...this might be worth watching, but I have a feeling Becky Boy won't let them state their case properly and will refuse to acknowledge their research. I'll watch it if I remember later tonight.
@The Bobman

Classic.
Somehow, I doubt that Beck will give them a fair chance to make their case. He'll probably bring along JT or some whacko from the PTC. Still, it looks like it might be worth tuning in to.
Glenn Beck wants to be Bill O'Rly. This is going to be nothing more than him shouting down his guests and accusing them of being evil, evil people.

Not like Beck has any standing on morality, to be honest - this is the guy who outright said he "hates" the 9/11 widows and Katrina victims, and openly said he wants to kill Michael Moore. Yes, as in kill kill. He also called Cindy Sheehan a "tragedy pimp" and a "prostitute", said he wants to "nuke" Iran, says that Mexico is "full fo criminals"... i could go on. He's a shameless, hateful bastard.
I'll just reiterate. Glenn Beck is a Bill O'Reilly wannabe.

He'll just berate them and ignore any good points they have to make.
Tivo Alert! Glenn Beck acts like dick around authors of Grand Theft Childhood, despite them pointing out that Jack Thompson is a dumbshit. Glenn Beck tonight!
@Finster

I could not read it anymore. If I wanted to read fiction I would read Harry Potter right now.
Damian
Beck is a entrainer his a talky head hes good at playing a crowd and works his base nicely.

At frist he was not pushing the fundie fud with all his might now adays he makes less sense, almost a speed up Brill'o so in 3 years he'll be just are burnt out and bitter and " lam'ba' and Brill.o
Finally!!! I cant wait. The last one was incredibly biased and there was no defence what so ever for the game.
Thanks for the heads up GP!

On a side note, anyone here who's in an AT&T U-Verse area should really get the service. I just set up a recording for the show from my desk at work. =)

Full Disclosure Dept: My wife works for AT&T and I'm a contractor that works on-site there.
@Johnnyboy

They still won't be defending it because they'll be getting cut off every three seconds.
Jonnyboy. No h. sorry.
I have my doubts about how 'unbiased' this will be.

Of course, this news popped up just after I sent a letter to Beck this morning, decrying his previous biased 'Grand Theft Morality' segment.
Hallejuah!
Oh man am I excited for this. I really hope the authors get a chance to talk and let people know about the current scientific understanding of violent media and violent behavior. Can't wait.
...There WILL be friction.
I just want them to point out the big misinformation that Jack and his buddies always trot out: that lab tests into aggression do NOT equal violence.

Hitting a button which signals an airhorn at somebody, is not the same as shooting them in the face with a handgun, or getting into a fist fight. Hell, if I had an airhorn, I'd give the guy in the cube next to me an earful every hour on the hour...doesn't make me a violent person. Just makes me a dick!

;)
Also "I can kill you with my brain."
We should contact his show's sponsors if he tries anything funny tonight. I found a list of his sponsors on a pro-Ron Paul blog. It's http://www.dailypaul.com/node/7467
Here's their spot:

Glenn Beck tells them they're evil liberals.
Something tells me Beck only invited the author on after looking at the title of the book. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts he's going to be shocked that the author isn't another fearmonger like Thompson.
I hope that he at least allows it to be a reasonable discussion and listens to what the authors have to say. He has a right to disagree but I am not going to watch his show anymore if he just uses this as another oppurtunity to trash games, the gaming industry, and possibly gamers themselves.

When he first came on the air I found his show quite funny, but once election season kicked in late last year he seems to have become nothing more than a jerk with a swelled head.

I originally planned to only avoid the election based parts of his show mostly because he only wants to talk about Obamas reverand, which is a stupid non-issue now more than ever. Even tonight, the night before the Indiana and North Carolina primaries, the headline of his show is none other than the the Reverand and his effect on the election. If I recall last week when he had JT on he had a 10 minute montage of Rev. Wright too to boot. And yes, I am an Obama supporter if that wasn't obvious enough already, but can't vote as I am a Canadian citizen.

After he had JT on, I vowed to never watch again. However if he is at least reasonable during the interview tonight, I will change my mind. But I will still not watch the election parts though.

P.S. I am sure I am not the first to say this, but I want to see a debate between the autors of GTC and JT. It would be fun, that's for sure.
@TheRoosterRngr

I did notice that on his book's page on Amazon that theres a gap of dates of reviews a few days after thursday.
Admiral Ackbar is right. This is going to be a clusterfark.
Glenn Beck has obviously discovered internet trolls and their tactics, and is trying to take some of that "treasure" back with him to real world space!
Well I'm not going to be holding my breath...

Gift.
I think it's sad that the only good Inteviews I see are on X-Play. At least they let both sides talk a bit instead of Adam Sessler Screaming at them yelling at them they are wrong.
I think Beck's gonna be completely blindsided by them. He probably hasn't read the book and is just basing what it's about based off the title. It should be pretty hilarious when Beck realizes that they aren't in the same camp he is in.
alright it's about to start.
Well let's see how it goes this time, two minutes to go.....
Starting soon...
Less than a minute in.....

/facepalm
sigh. I have to sit through this junk to get to the gaming stuff? Who watches this voluntarily?

From his teasers it certainly doesn't look like he is going to be open to anything positive the authors of Grand Theft Childhood have to say...
Wow I turn the tv on to see "M=Money"

Its not looking good for fair and balanced news reporting.....
Yadda yadda...whoring his wares...
This is gonna suck balls.
Larry King and Anderson Cooper don't invite this dick to their parties do they? Thoae parties are for the FAIR AND BALANCED!
Come on Glenn, just call it a baby rape simulator and call it a day, ya' jerk.
No, then he'd probably claim there was a hate-mail campaign against him from deranged video-gamers angry at him for trying to tear the vile addictive games from them or some other such gibberish.

You can't fight fairly against these people. It's best just to ignore them.
Watching it now...he smiles like a goon.
we are losers. who knew?
Glenn is looking around not caring and just insulted us, yay!
We are losers, I just heard it from Satan...Glen's mouth.
It's like you're REQUIRED to mention having sex with a hooker and killing her when criticizing GTA, considering how often they do so.
He Just called Video game bloggers all losers... he's gonna get it now..
@Colonel Finn

Isn't it lame that we live in a world where peaceful protest can get people labled as hate mail campaigners?

And after a recent remark from him I'm not suggest that instead of letters we send him boxes of rotten tomatoes. I could care less. If it makes his life slightly more annoying then I'm going to send him boxes of rotten tomatoes. The tomatoes represent his rotton attitude towards gamers.
Wow that was a giant waste.

When the author actually made a point contradicting Mr. Beck's claims, he just rolled his eyes.
Let loose the wrath of gamers.
anyone good at reading lips? I wonder what he said as he went to break and his mic was off.
Well. I am not surprised.
Segment's over.

PS: According to Glenn Beck, because us video gamers who are also blogging and discussing this on blogs... well, we're losers. Yeah.
that was disappointing, should get halpin on there or someone
/facepalm

He said again that there was nudity in it.

Also, he was talking about how he's worried that the hookers in GTA will warp a teenaged boys' view of women.

I think that if someone has trouble telling the difference between a real woman and one in a game, that person already has a warped view to start with.
Oh and isn't it cute that he thinks we think he's the new "badguy"? Heh.
Did he... did he just get schooled and not even CARE?
@Grizzam
Even though Glenn Beck is a prime example of how any nutjob can get a position in the news industry these days I don't think he would be "America's Next Jack Thompson."

Though if there was such a competition on Fox I bet he would come as a close runner up.
We dissagree with him! We're all losers!
That Jerk!!!!!!! He's so ignoramous!
Hoorah. Thank you Glenn. Thank you for calling me a loser because I am a gamer and a game blogger. You just lost one more viewer. I hope your show gets canned.
@King of Fiji

Hella. Has anyone here ever actually thought he was some sort of "threat"?
how loopy is this guy? lower gas prices caused by regulating the gas cartel is bad because it would cause more people to buy gas but lower gas prices caused by more oil drilling is good?
Yeah, raise your hands if you would rather be a loser than a fearmongering lier.

*raises hand*
Oh yeah, I forgot about how he said that gamer bloggers have no life. I like it when people spout off some broad comment about a group of people for no real reason.

All people on CNN are douche bags

See what I did there?
Oh, forgot to mention that Cheryl Olson kicked ass.
Really need to get John Stewart on Glenn's show so he can pull a Crossfire on his a$$...
@GRIZZAM
No but I'm just saying its fun how he formulates his show to be obviously unfair towards those on his show with opposing oppinons.

Also got to love how he expresses his oppinion on things on the same leve of a 6 year old.

Glen: They're loosers.

Very mature Glenn Beck.
Sorry for the typos.
I didn't watch it. What did the autjors have to say?
I notice that his website is glaringly devoid of any sort of forums to comment on his show...
At least he didn't kill her viewpoint, but I don't think he soaked in anything she said. Considering his tone of the rest of this segment and the other stories he is covering, I wonder why he even put that part in to begin with.
He couldn't care less, what anyone thinks. Just by making the last few shows he's succeeded in enlarging the viewing audience of tonight's show, and ensuring that a shedload of us will watch any further video-gamer trashing he decides to do.

Plus he gains notoriety from any articles that reference this show and his bias. Because some groups will still agree with him and see this as a bunch of angry 'losers' hitting out at people who don't agree.

Like I said, best to just ignore him.
Loser ? To paraphrase Bugs Bunny, "This means war!"
@Paul: Basically the author said what any gamer would like to hear. She contradicted what Glen claimed about the game and in retaliation Mr. Beck rolled his eyes and called gamers "losers".
Ha, so I'm a loser and you don't even know me? Jesus this guy is beyond reason.
Seriously though, nobody do some juvenille crap like swarm his books with bad reviews or sent him hate mail with the grammar of a retarded 3 year old.
Glenn Beck is the father of all lies.
From what the segment was entitled and the little promos, I thought we were talking about the discrepancy about M and AO and what that means I retail. He glazed over it when he muttered about Walmart and God forbid a family place sells an M game or whatever (Does he always talk that fast? I only half caught what he said.)

I'm extremely glad I'm purchased Grand Theft Childhood on day one. Olson did great and pretty much owned Glenn when she stated that boys didn't even know you could pick up prostitutes. I don't know how many users on GamePolitics live in Southern California but Bill Handel from KFI interviewed the other author of the book around April 29. It's about a 10 minute listen if you choose to download it, but it's fair and millions listen to this station. Here it is:

http://a1135.g.akamai.net/f/1135/18227/1h/cchannel.download.akamai.com/1...
@jccalhoun graduate student

how loopy is this guy? lower gas prices caused by regulating the gas cartel is bad because it would cause more people to buy gas but lower gas prices caused by more oil drilling is good?

Actually, there is some logic to that. The first is lowering prices by forcing the companies to reduce their profit margins. The second is lowering prices by increasing supply. The second is likely to be better in the long run (except to the environment, but that's a separate argument.)
The funny thing is, I'd be willing to bet that Glenn Beck was taken aback by their stance on the issue. When he heard the title of the book, he probably thought, "Oh goodie, another good ole' conservative, literary masterpiece on the evils of videogames!". I doubt he knew that they'd even argue with him.
@ GP:

Speaking of JT, there's been no update on his bar case. There was a letter online he tried to remove or defeat Judge Dava Tunis as a judge. Something sent to the police chief of Florida or sheriff. He said the video game 'violence' and pornography was her fault. What happened there? Is the judge off the case? Any word on this?
eh, Glenn Beck is no Bill O'rly, but Cheryl Olson is no Adam Sessler either.

Honestly, my mom listens to his radio show and said he has changed a lot since he got the TV show.

she gladly informed me that he was whining yesterday about his wife not letting his son having toy guns, because "Boys will be boys" and if we didnt give them plastic guns they would pretend sticks were guns.

lmao, no digital violence, but plastic facsimiles of REAL guns are ok.

I implore one of these talking heads to have someone who is intelligent and actually knows about the game(Adam Sessler, Geoff Keeley, hell, even Adam Perrera) to be on
methinks they took one look at the name of the book thought she was anti-gaming and put her on the show man will they be in for a surprise.
@Father Time
I got that same feeling too.
oh yeah, i havnt got my next-gen yet....is there even really any nudity in GTA 4?
Wow this guy is unbelievable. The author got like 2 minutes to say anything. And that was all while he was interrupting her with condescending remarks. Compare that to the amount of air time Jack Thompson got last time. I think he goes over to out Jackie boy's house every night to suck his saggy nutsack. But hey, we are loosers? You sir, are a washed up reporter that gets very minimal attention from anyone that matters. Thank you for reminding us how dumb America really is.
The rating says that it is "Rated 'M' due to Intense Violence, Blood, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Partial Nudity, Use of Drugs and Alcohol"

So there is "partial" nudity whatever that means. I topless partial or is a bikini partial?
@GRIZZAM512
I somewhat agree with you. We really need to step up our game. I agree with you about not sending out hate mail and not bookstorming. But what to do now?
"oh yeah, i havnt got my next-gen yet….is there even really any nudity in GTA 4?"

Fully clothed "strippers" is pretty much it. Nothing more risque than you would see on any public beach.

Oh noes! Ban beaches!
@MR.B

Be upstanding citizens. That's it. That's all we gotta do. Unless we start acting like the sociopaths that we're expected to be, we can't lose.
@DragonDefonce

Beck is just a sensational journalist trying to win viewers over with his "unique" view of politics and views on society. He makes brash statements and interjects personal bias on what he covers, and has guest speakers on that will agree with his viewpoints. Olsen was given almost no time to speak because it was a short segment, and she didn't agree with him, compared to the others on the program who got more time by appealing to his ego and agreeing with what he had to say.

I would have accepted the segment if he hadn't dismissed video gamers, and video gamers who blog, as idiots.
Grizzam is right, when we mailbomb him and such it just makes us look like what they want us to look like...
@GRIZZAM 512/MR.B

Upstanding citizens can e-mail him or his program with their views or comments. It might not do anything, and chances are will be dismissed, but if he has the ability to make social commentary on those of us watching, we have the ability to make social commentary on the one creating the content. Free speech.

But I do agree, hate mail and bookstorming are not options any civil person should do. It will only reinforce people like Beck's opinions on gamers in general.
I'd need to watch it again but it looked like he might have been saying "what was that?" When the segment was over and they went to commercial.
Mail gets him to do more stories on it because he thinks it will get ratings. On the other hand, if CNN gets enough messages then they will know better than to piss off gamers.
just watched it Glenn got man handled at the end if you ask me
For the record, Glenn's show is not a news show, it's more of a talk show so he's kinda supposed to interject his views. I still think he's a bit of a jackass though, not because we dissagree, but because he acts like a bully to those guests who dissagree with him.
@Anonymous2U:

It was a letter to the official entity responsible for supervising elections in which Jack claims Judge Tunis (who is up for re-election this year) shouldn't be allowed to run as an incumbent judge because she doesn't have a valid loyalty oath. However, Jack fails to mention that, if his claim is correct as to Judge Tunis, then neither would 99% of the other judges up for re-election. I suspect that Jack's letter will end up in the same place as his letters to the FBI do (i.e., the wastepaper basket).
Do you know what? I have to compare his abusive comments about individuals who play games with his own actions.

(1) Arrogant and abusive. Clearly, not an honorable or ethical attitude towards others.

(2) Bigoted. A blind attitude towards a group of Humans based on a limited or ignorant view of those individuals based on some common factor. Whether it's a particular skin color, religion, sexuality, like of a particular type of music, genre of literature, sport, or any other number of factors. It is that limited or ignorant view of that comonality that makes him a bigot.

(3) The clear attempt to limit information from being passed to others. Clearly, he knew his argument cannot stand up to discussion. Either during his interviews where he prevents the opposing views from being as heard as his is. Morever, his complaint about bloggers discussing anything he is opposed to shows his desire to spread ONLY HIS view and not let opposing views be thoroughly heard.

Frankly, anything negative he has to say about me as an individual, especially since the previous 3 facts are in place regarding him, amounts to diddly squat.

I'd also like to state that I hate being called a "gamer". I only use such titles for lack of a better term. I do so much more than play games and blog, so the term sells myself and many others a little short. Also, in defense of Glenn's statement about bloggers, If the only gamers I had ever met or spoken with were a-holes, I might say that too.
As to emailing Beck, it's as useful as emailing John Bruce, Fred Phelps, the racist Al Sharpton, or even Osama Bin Laudin.

Let him prattle. Or better yet, maybe we need a Point-Counter-Point to air on YouTube or something, similar to what Adam Sessler did after the NPR interview.

Beck has had his say and his arguments can't stand up to a real discussion, as I mentioned before in the other post. So, do it right back by publishing intelligent comments in the Public eye on video. Seems only fair. Especially since it's clear he doesn't operate fairly and has no intention to.

One way to defeat the anti-gaming forces is to continue to plunk down your hard-earned scrilla for gaming software and hardware. Twenty years ago, when the opponents of rap music (including Jack Thompson) realized they weren't putting much of a dent in that gazillion dollar industry but, rather, sales of rap music were steadly rising, they shut up and found some other nascent industry to terrorize. Unfortunately, that industry is gaming. So, you may want to consider purchasing two copies of GTAIV -- one for yourself and another for a friend who can't afford it.
Also, regarding his comment that this game might effect the attitudes of young kids towards women, all I can say is this: Unless you've never been around an actual woman in real life and don't have a mother who isn't a hooker or something, you outta know better than to think that all women are whores. Kinda how a single stereotype of a black dude isn't gonna make you a racist unless that's all you have to go on, and if that's all you know, that's what the problem is.

On the issue of tittles and name-calling and Beck's ignorance towards others based on the "groups" they belong to:

"I Am Me" by Virginia Satir

(Virginia came to write this poem when she was working with an angry fifteen-year-old girl who had a lot of questions about herself and what life meant.)

In all the world, there is no one exactly like me.
There are persons who have some parts like me,
but no one adds up exactly like me.

Therefore, everything that comes out of me
is authentically mine because I alone choose it.
I own everything about me

Therefore, everything that comes out of me
is authentically mine because I alone choose it.
I own everything about me
my body, including everything it does;
my mind, including all its thoughts and ideas;
my eyes, including the images of all they behold;
my feelings, whatever they may be...
anger,
joy,
frustration,
love,
disappointment,
excitement
my mouth, and all the words that come out of it
polite,
sweet or rough,
correct or incorrect;
my voice, loud or soft.
And all my actions, whether they be to others or to myself.

I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.
I own all my triumphs and successes,
all my failures and mistakes.
Because I own all of me I can become intimately acquainted with me.
By doing so I can love me and be friendly with me in all parts.
I can then make it possible for all of me to work in my best interests.

I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me,
and other aspects that I do not know.
But as long as I am friendly and loving to myself,
I can courageously and hopefully, look for solutions to the puzzles
and for ways to find out more about me.

However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think
and feel at a given moment in time is me.
This is authentic and represents where I am in that moment in time.
When I review later how I looked and sounded, what I said and did, and how I thought and felt, some parts may turn out to be unfitting.
I can discard that which is unfitting, and keep that which proved fitting,
And invent something new for that which I discarded.

I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do.
I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive,
and to make sense and order out of the world of people
and things outside of me.
I own me, and therefore I can engineer me.

I am me, and I am okay.

He goes on LIVE TV and said that he did not care about Video Games and called Video Game Bloggers losers. I do have to say I was surprised that Dr. Cheryl Olson got to say more than five words and spoke the truth. Quick and did not get mad but only for a moment in the start. It was not long but it did it's job.
And don't let the Becks and Thompsons of the world fool you into thinking they're really interested in the video game controversy being resolved because they aren't. That's kinda like a cop advocating for zero crime but who knows deep in their heart that if their wish actually came true, they'd be out of a job.
@JackDon'tKnowJack

Kinda like Master Chief after the war. :)
@Glenn Beck

I may be a loser but your a Wiener
I'm amazed she was able to give her viewpoint on it as a "sandbox". I thought he was trying to fry her. Apparently, he doesn't understand that insults don't really help his view, just makes him sound silly.
I don't really see him as an enemy, just someone misinformed and playing to sensationalism, he's worried about losing his job >_>

Well whatever, hopefully parents heard her about her opinion and research.
I think that my statements were taken out of context. Let me make this quite clear, i'm not advocating doing anything STUPID.

If contacting him directly (Beck) is not working, we should contact his sponsors instead.

Instead of sending hate mail to Beck, we should send out the video of Beck attacking gamers to other gamers to help make them more aware of the anti-game bias thats out there.

We need to respond, but in a more clear and effective manner. Not in the same way we went after Cooper Lawrence. There are better ways to handle this situation. We need to use even more information than he uses, we need to be more clever and creative than he can EVER be. We must show him that us "losers" can easily out class him. Having class will be the key to successly handle this guy.
@DPhish
Not really, closest you get are strippers in g-strings with giants Xs over they're breasts.
Nothing Glenn Beck says makes any sense. He attacks Hilary Clinton for supporting a gas tax break, but oh wait, Obama agrees with him about that. So he attacks Obama for opposing the gas tax break because it's "not an important issue worth discussing" anyway.

He needs to lose his job and be forced to work at Burger King.
I meant to say "handleing", not "handle".
Well, he's just lost a viewer. With the real threats of terrorism, rogue nations, and political corruption, who in their right mind could be worried about the "threat" of video games? That's like being in a hurricane and being worried about getting wet.

Also, where do people get the idea that GTA IV objectifies women? If anything, Niko has more respect for women than any character in any medium in recent years.
I said it last time and I will say it again.

Glen Beck is an idiot.
That Author lady was AWESOME. She kicked ass. FOR SURE, without a doubt Glenn Beck put her on the show without knowing that she was going to counter-point his views. You could tell when she started answering him and the screen was split, he looked over off camera like "WTF why is she saying this?".

She was awesome, and Glenn Beck. Is this guy even for real? After she had a very good well though out explanation he then makes the comment "These video game bloggers are talking about me..." I mean WHERE did that come from? That had NOTHING to do with the discussion that they were just having!! LOL The author lady had that "UHH WTF, OK." look on her face like, why did you just make that comment.

Hahaha she made Beck look like a fucking idiot.
M equals money?

1) Halo 3 -- Rated M17+
2) Wii Play -- Rated E (Everyone)
3) Call of Duty 4 -- Rated M
4) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock -- Rated T (Teen)
5) Super Mario Galaxy -- Rated E (Everyone)
6) Pokemon Diamond -- Rated E (Everyone)
7) Madden NFL 08 -- Rated E (Everyone)
8) Guitar Hero 2 -- Rated T (Teen)
9) Assassin's Creed -- Rated M
10) Mario Party 8 -- Rated E (Everyone)

It makes sense, PG-13 movies make more money than R rated movies because they are accessible to a wider audience, and games that appeal to a wide age range sell better than mature titles.
It's ok to insult bloggers but not to insult Glenn? That makes sense. Trust Glenn Beck's view on the pretense that Glenn Beck doesn't trust your view (as a gamer). F-ckin' catch 22 right there. He should know that if he's going to talk so strongly about something, he should be able to accept the backlash.
You know, looking at Bebop's list I think Pokemon does more to turn kids into mindless zombies than any other game there.
