Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape Scene in GTA IV

Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape Scene in GTA IV

June 25, 2008

Connecticut State Senator Gayle Slossberg (D) is eager to do something about the rape scene in Grand Theft Auto IV, she told the New Haven Advocate.

But she faces a major hurdle: There is no rape scene in the controversial game.

From the newspaper story:

[Sen. Slossberg] wants confirmation of the rumored rape scene in Grand Theft Auto IV—but she can't reach that level of the game. The Milford state senator's never played GTA, but she fears it's corrupting the youth and thinks a law requiring better warning labels might be the fix. She told the Nose as much at a Capitol press conference last week...

Slossberg hints she'll... introduce legislation next session calling for clearer labeling of depraved video games like Grand Theft Auto...  Slossberg's a bit unsure of how the warning labels might read: "I mean what would it say? 'This game will make you a sociopath'?"

Next on the agenda, introducing legislation to put warning labels on all food because you might choke on it.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It could be called the "Mama Cass Rating System"

A Mama Cass joke? Now my day is comlpete. I am going home.

"But she faces a major hurdle: There is no rape scene in the controversial game." Shhhhhh. Logic might hear you!

Maybe somebody could tell her about the hidden cop-killer level of Super Mario Bros. while we're at it.

lol

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Dont forget the porn level of pong...you cant tell but in one level the square "ball" is actually a square nipple...

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

OMG. It's a there is a freaking rape scene in the game. I mean it doesn't exist, but since it is GTA, it must exist!!!!!!!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Wow! The powerful brains of this countries leaders are astounding...

Aren't you supposed to check that there actually IS a problem before looking for ways to solve it?

Sounds to me like she just wanted an excuse to play GTA for hours on end.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

"Aren't you supposed to check that there actually IS a problem before looking for ways to solve it?"

If politicians used that logic, we wouldn't be stuck in Iraq right now.

---You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Indeed, if they thought that way they would realize it was a just cause to remove Sadam from power and STFU.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

How many Iraqis did Saddam kill? Because we've managed 700,000 and rising.

So what's just cause for that.. oil?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Any chance you have any evidence of this number killed by US troops and/or contractors?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape
so if many of yours are killed, then it's justified? would that be worse if there were less deaths in any side, you suggest? and they went for their oil, not for yours so they can sell it at any price they want (they are not there to help you, you're just their cow and they'll use you as such). don't be so naive, you USed peopple.
Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

If us USers were the cow, then we would be getting the oil for free.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

That comment flew way over your head didn't it? 700,000 Iraqis killed doesn't equal 700,000 dead by U.S. fire.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Infact, I believe it's around 400,000 now, but only a small portion of it is directly caused by US troops.

The reality though is that if US did not invade Iraq, those 400,000 may very well be alive today, and the 5+ million Iraqi refugees who are causing a global issue would have been living in their homes right this moment, and I would have been in my freaking home in Baghdad playing Playstation 2/3 until the first rays of the next morning, but thanks to US I had to leave my whole life behind and move to a foreign country, otherwise that number would have been 400,001 by now.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

if we had gone there for oil we would have it and i wouldn't be paying $4.50+ a galleon right now

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

You can thank the Chinese for the price of oil. As everyone knows, the more demand you have for a thing, the more they can ask for it and get away with it. You did it for oil, but it blew up in your face, and now you're stuck in a Vietnam-like situation where you damned if you stay and damned if you pack up and go home.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Actually the cost of oil is partly down to the weak US economy making the dollar so weak on the markets and speculators driving up the cost.  Once people stop paying huge amounts for barrels of oil, the speculators will rush to get out of the market and the price will start to go down.  Usually with a speculative market there will be a crash, but I don't think it will go much below $100 a barrel even after the current spike.  The days of cheap fuel are gone, China or no China.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Stop complaining. We pay $8 a gallon here in sweden.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Yeah your right, you should be getting it for free, since it costs nothing to drill and ship. And lets just all forget about the economic factors… wow learn a little

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape
The United States kept Saddam in power to keep Iran in check. Why we took him out without a plan to deal with Iran(or Iraq even) is something that the next president should find an answer for.
Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

If it ain't broke... you better make sure it is.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

did she just say GTA4 would make you a sociapath?

wtf....

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

No, that was the author being sarcastic, the whole article is worth a read, it's making it quite clear the senator has no clue what she's talking about.

...Or would be, if it were true. Nothing's certain (the Nose couldn't reach the alleged rape scene either) but four out of five gamer geeks in the blogosphere appear to agree: There is no rape scene. It's all the stuff of rumors.

Congrats dear author on trying something the senator obviously didn't, use google!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It was put in quotes though. How many news article writers put their own words in quotes in an article talking about another person? Either the person who wrote that did something stupid and dishonest, or those are actually the Senator's words.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It was single quotes (') not ("). Meaning that is a quote of what the label would say if it existed. If there was a quote from the crazy lady in " " and than that part was in ' ', that would mean she said it.

For example, the senator said "what would they put on the label? 'this game will make you a sociopath'?"

Versus

What would they put on the label? 'This game will make you a sociopath'?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Try reading; those single quotes are between a pair of double quotes, meaning she did indeed say it.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Though, had the author written "Warning: GTA4 will make politicians lose their sanity, and die trying to lick their own crotches”, it wouldn’t have been a joke.

Seriously… what is it about GTA that just causes all senators to go coo-coo-bananas?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

wow... another politician trying to get their name out by jumping on the band wagon (which is pretty much broke) of the GTA VI Bash and kicking a dead horse.  I mean seriously: "It is outrageous! I cant believe this type of game is out here...no...I’ve never played it and they cant show me anywhere in the game that depicts rape...but that doesn’t matter, I’m screaming about out children and violence, obviously my claims must be right...I’m with the government!"  Ten Bucks says JT sent her some emails (btw I’m hoping he posts on this entry...its always fun to laugh at him ^_^)

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Wow. Well, I suppose it's good that she's at least trying to find out if the scene actually exists, but... that's about all I can say. I honestly don't even know how to respond to her own question about what the warning label would read.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It would read:

ESRB Rating: JT Offensive

-Purchase, usage and/or thinking about this game will condemn you to eternal damnation

-Corrupts 'our' young people

-Evil

-Users in apocalypse

-Brainwashing simulators that transforms innocence into stone cold killers

-Did this warning mention evil?

-Satans love child/anti-christ

-Evil

Yeah I think that about sums it up. ^_^

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Perhaps Cooper Lawrence was able to reach the rape level in GTA4...Only on Sexbox!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Can we get some kind of labeling for depraved politicians like State Senator Slossberg here?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I wish.  How would *that* label read?

RATING I:  IDIOT ENCLOSED. For blind pursuit of objective with no basis in reality.  Not suitable for impressionable individuals.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Honestly, I was a sociopath well before playing GTAIV.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Let's take a gander at the available ESRB content descriptors, shall we?  Oh, here's a good one:

Sexual Violence - Depictions of rape or other violent sexual acts

Now let's look at the content descriptors on the back of the GTA IV box...  Nope, not there.  I'd say there's a pretty good chance that there's no rape in the game.

Andrew Eisen

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

You forgot, of course, that the ESRB is a puppet branch of the game industry, and can't be trusted.

(Sarcasm, in case someone can't tell.)

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Dont even joke about that, you're giving fox news ideas.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Well, the MPAA went through a number of rating changes through the years as one can see on Wikipedia.

So I guess a new rating in the ESRB is warranted.

New ESRB Rating: PA

Political Agenda.

Age Rated: Protect The Children!

Has only ONE Content Descriptor to be used with it:

Contains:  Whatever the Hell any given politician wants to make up, whether it exists or not.

Actually, about 70% the human brain is made of fat, not meat. That means it's okay to call these politicians 'fatheads', because it's TRUE!

/yay technicalities!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

This "OMG GTA has rape!" thing is a favorite of ignorant politicians and groups that have "family" or "children" in their name (an I mean ignorant literally as in they are ignorant of the videogames).  I've mentioned the fact that there is no rape in GTA on my blog several times and my logs tell me that I get at least 3-4 hits a week from people searching for things like 'gta rape' or 'rape videogame.'  Nowperhaps these are perverts hoping to find it but I think it is more likely that they are people who have heard the rumor that this is true.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

"I mean what would it say? 'This game will make you a sociopath'?"

How about "Warning! Hearing this game's name makes you succeptible to being punked with bogus info."

Seriously, it's just like those gel wristbands, and parent groups got themselves in a twitter imagining all the depraved acts each one stood for. Each new act getting more "descriptive" than the last... almost like they were slipping into some kind of wierd fantasy world imagining things...

-- If your wiimote goes snicker-snack, check your wrist-strap...

When did politicians ever let the truth get in their way?
Saddam didn't have WMDs, Obama cannot be both a secret muslim and a christian with a contreversial pastor but really facts never get in the way of political agendas. That's why the movement towards a theocracy is such a positive move!
Re: When did politicians ever let the truth get in their way?

Can you even touch your computer without praising Obama/denouncing his detractors? Seriously? And Obama's pastor is Christian in the same way that the Ayatollahs are. He's so far removed from the good book it's astounding.

Re: When did politicians ever let the truth get in their way?

Would people stop using Obama's surname as an affront to his background?

Surnames are not always a good indicator of who they actually are. Just look at Noureen DeWulf, one Indian actress hawtie who is in no way Dutch or Christian.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I know it's great to poke fun at ignorant government, but really, could one of her constituants that reads the PLEASE contact her and let her know there isn't any rape, which is why she can't reach that "level".

Seriously, reporting their mistakes is one thing, but can Game Politics try and help them out a little? You, being a quasi-political blog, might have more pull if you let her knwo that she is selling elephant repellant.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Fuck that! Why should we help them when they can be exposed as the ignorant ass-hats they are? Which they should be. Let their constituants know these are people who should not be in power.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Since I live in the Senator's district, here's the letter I'm sending her.

Dear Senator Slossberg,

I write to you today, ad a long time resident of your constituency, concerning the article I read in the New Haven Advocate, as well as other online sources such as gamepolitics.com, concerning your intent to introduce a bill to stop video game violence. I have found that there are three major areas that are flawed in any bill such as this.

First, you mention a rape scene in Grand Theft Auto 4 (GTA4). There is no such scene in this game, or any other of the GTA series. I dare you, or anyone else, to find such a scene. Is there heavily implied sexual scenes, yes. But no rape scene.

Second, where does parental responsibility fit in here? Where aren't children's parents stopping them from viewing what they consider to be objectionable material? Has our country become such a nanny state that parent's are now relieved of any responsibility whatsoever?

Third, as I hope you are aware of Senator, there have been bills concerning this one passed in other states. And yet every single one has been ruled, or is about to be ruled, unconstitutional. Are you prepared to waste hundreds of thousands, and possibly millions of dollars on something that the Supreme Court will overturn?

Senator, I urge you to abandon this issue. It will bring nothing but wasted money here. There are better places to spend the taxpayer's money on issues that need it, such as after school programs in Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury, and Hartford.

You might consider doing some editing before you send that off.  You've got a couple misspellings, word usage problems, and punctuation errors in there.  You might also consider signing your real name.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Did that already. That was the rough draft.

And yes, I signed my name. Just don't want to post it here.

Hello Cooper Lawrence mkII.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Seeing, hearing, or reading about politicians going this low and getting this desperate, although nothing new, is just pathetic.

Politicians should never be allowed to lie, especially the way Senator Slossberg lied, about anything just to get laws passed and to make themselves look good to their voters. Acts like this need to stop.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

The worst bit is the fact that Slossburg is introducing legislation calling for better labeling, but can't even make a suggestion as to what those labels should say. You really shouldn't make any complaints about problems until you can offer a decent solution.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape
Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

While they're at it, they should remove the nonexistant pedophilia and beastiality from the game. Those two things are really screwing up the nonexistant minds of the nonexistant children who play them.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

To be fair, at least there's technically Pedophilia in the game. Well, you don't view any child nudity, but there's a site that is implied to be a child porn site, and going to it gives you a 5 star police rating.

It's no big deal, of course, but don't give these people any fuel - nomatter how little.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I disagree.

A website called Little Lacy Surprise Pageant does not equal pedophilia in my book.  In my opinion it's a humongous stretch to even claim that implies pedophilia.  Call me daft but I would have been really confused had I stumbled upon that site in the game and suddenly my wanted rating is up to five stars.

Andrew Eisen

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape
Actually that site is not even meant to be a child porn site at all. It redirects to the FIB site. One of the Weasel news reports states its a sting operation similar to the 'You have won a boat' things the police use to get people with outstanding warrants for smaller crimes to go to them.

(1:33:10 PM) *editedout*: there's a rape scene in gta iv?
(1:33:14 PM) *edited out*: thats disgusting

aka, they just hear what they want to hear.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

ok, where did this come from all of a sudden?

1) If you're going to spout non-sense about so-called "depraved content" do so before the game is approved by the ESRB and released for sale to the public.

2) GTA4 has been out for how long now??? And she's throwing a hissy fit now? I thought we left all those (hypo)critical politicians behind when the game was officially released.

3) If you can't confirm said content in a game, how can you even consider accusing a game of having such content?

4) Why advocate for a law concerning better warning labels? I mean the ESRB one ones are pretty clear when it comes to the content of games, not many mistakes to make there.

Nowadays it's considered patriotic to hate and insult the government. The government and the actual nation are seperate entities, ever since the government decided that they didn't wanna uphold the Constitution or uphold freedom.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Anyone ever get extremely worried that politicians (who are paid by taxes out of your pockets) are wasting their time trying to fix nothing (a crime they imagined up) in a virtual game?

It's a make believe world.

If rape were included as a player action (which I think most people would agree would be in very bad taste), there are existing mechanisms for classifying or banning the game.

But it's a make believe world.  Doesn't real world America have enough actual problems (dollar falling, flooding, an ongoing illegal war, a President who condones and abets war crimes) to solve before they clean up the virtual environments where they have no mandate?

Senator expresses concerns over non-existent rape scene in non-existent game in non-existent country.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

GTAIV is not the game they need to be worrying about. I saw that Phantasmagoria and Custer's Revenge were mentioned in the comments for the article as being only games with rape in them, but those people are wrong. A more modern game has it too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlpdyvwGe-s

Assassin's Creed depicts the rape of poor defenseless wooden structures by the town guard. Those poor structures are never going to be the same after those horrid guards finish their business!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

"Or would be, if it were true. Nothing's certain (the Nose couldn't reach the alleged rape scene either) but four out of five gamer geeks in the blogosphere appear to agree: There is no rape scene. It's all the stuff of rumors."

Fuck you New Haven Advocate. Why is the word 'geek' always tied on to the word gamer with this sort of stuff. I'll admit, I am a geek by definition, but it's always used in a derogatory way when these uptight, assholes use it (I'm looking at you Glenn Beck).

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

do you not know about SARCASM!?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

thats it!!!! from here on out to apply for any government job you absolutely MUST pass a test on logic and the law! (nothing too complex just to prove you dont drool on yourself)

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I have an idea.  From now on, sort of like feel-temperatures, there will be a feel-ESRB rating.  In this rating, they draw a pentagram on the floor and summon a group of corrupt poloticians.  They then right down random words, like, "rape", "violence", and "corruption of youth", and then pick a rating based on whatever the hell they want.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Warning: This game contains whatever content I say it does, whether I've played it or not.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Well, I sent a letter. I pointed out that there was no rape, apologized for anything that certain members of the gaming community might have said, and pointed out that the ratings on games are pretty damn clear already. Hopefully her or her associates will take the time to read it, but whatever

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Oh man, that rape scene was the bet.  I mean there was the rape...and...well...

...it would help if I had something to go on, considering I beat GTA4 twice now...

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

This senator, must be getting her news from Fox News.  Serious, I dont care if someone is republican or democrat.  Both wish to be uneducated, and unwise, keeps costing us taxpayers dearly.  Maybe we should vote them all out of office all together, and demand politicans to have:

1) A brain

2) An education above 2nd grade

3) Know that Common Sense, isnt common.

Never gonna happen.

In this fantasy world of yours, can i have any ferrari for free, and a hundred girls lining up to have sex with me?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Better warning labels? Corrupting the youth?

It clearly states M for MATURE.

Hey, I have a solution: Don't let kids play this game.

:GASP:

 Crazy, right?

????

That logic doesn't seem very popular anymore.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I like her excuse for her stupidity;

I couldn't make it to that level! It's there, though, I swear it is!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

GTA has levels?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It does now.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

It could be argued as the distance between missions or between city sections, it's not that unreasonable to describe them as levels, the same way you could describe races in Forza or GRID as levels.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

since your character is paid for each mission, it'd have to be agreed that a mission to rape makes as much sense as, if not less than, the Babalities in Mortal Kombat

No confirmed rape scene, yet she's acting on it.

Ah, if only you can get away with such leaps of logic in any profession!

Hey boss, I'm a mere bricklayer but I don't like the way that contractor designed the garage. It looks unsafe. Better to draw up my own crazy plan for how the door should slide open!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I got a reply from the email I sent to:

Thank you for contacting my office with your concerns.

The article in the New Haven Advocate misrepresented my off-the-record-comments during an informal conversation about parenting.  I was in no way announcing a legislative proposal, announcing intent to introduce legislation or taking a public position on restricting the content of video games.

Thank you again for your interest.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

With warm regards,

Gayle Slossberg

Heh, I'm willingly to take her word on this, the only people that twist the facts for their own benefit more then politicians has to be people from the press.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Actually that sounds like a twist on a twist.  She never said she didn't discuss the "GTA IV rape scene" nor did she say she wasn't pushing for more "descriptive labeling".  All she says is that she wasn't pushing for legislation restricting the CONTENT of the video games.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I endorse the senator's suggestion to put warning labels on games, similar to cigarette packs. If more than half the cover shouted out "Gaming may seriously damage your health and those around you", maybe these freaking hen mothers will stop complaining and let us gamers enjoy games in peace.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

it's not the labels that are the problem.. they're already there... the real problem is...

THE STUPID PARENTS DON'T READ 'EM!!!!!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

The funniest part of that article.. she couldnt reach that level of the game. LMAO. I got my laugh for the day at least.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

How about a warning label which states: This game might make all politicians into blathering morons that don't understand the constitution or what it stands for?  Unfreaking believable...

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I was flipping the channels a few weeks ago when I hit "Law and Order" on NBC. It was near the end of an episode where the female protagonist was working undercover as a prison inmate. The scene (dragged on for suspense) showed a prison guard just about to force her to perform fellatio on him (you could here his zipper unzip quite loudly). A disturbing scene. I have yet to see anything like that in any of the GTA games.

Sen. Slossberg needs to check her facts before spouting off, balance the State's budget, cut the massive waste that goes on and stay out of people's personal lives. Most Democrats support keeping the government out of the bedroom (which I also support). Too bad they can't extend the same privilege to the living room.

She is a big "police supporter" (aka gets election support from police officer unions) so I suspect it's part payback time too. Ignorant or beholden to others?

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Forbid Notepad, it may be used to write shocking fantasy novels of rape on kids... What would the world come to then??

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

I'd have to agree with her.  Rape scene or not, my children will not be sitting around staring at this trash all day.

I believe that "games" like this need to be banned.  It is not freedom to sell products that repeatedly simulate violent and criminal scenarios for kids.

Kids sit and play games while daddy mows the lawn?  I don't THINK so.  Parents, get these lazy kids on some chores and playing sports!  Don't listen to their stupid complaining either!  If you have a whiny lazy kid with a rotten attitude you will have to MAKE them do stuff.  You are the parent, take charge!  Don't let politicians fight your battles for you!  These games will turn your kids into rotten worthless people if you let them play all day!

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

are you kidding me? i will admit i sit on my ass and play a lot of video games, but I'm no worse person for it. I participate in plenty of sports (Track, Baseball, Soccer) and i play guitar, so there is no saying that I am worthless. I play games while my father mows the lawn, but that is because he is unemployed, and needs a sense of self-worth. The notion that the GTA franchise should be banned is moronic. The game is designed for those over the age of 17, so they are not "simulating violence and crimal scenarios for kids," it's being simulated for people that are of an age where they can decipher right from wrong.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

What a stupid fucking bitch.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

Something I've never understood is why games in the US aren't rated and sold the same way films are. In the UK we have the BBFC classifications, which make it against the law for someone under the age marked on the product to buy it, and shop owners can get into some serious doo doo if they sell or rent an item to someone under that age. So kids getting hold of an 18 rated game must have had it bought for them by their parents/family or have conned some film/game shop into selling em it. Either way if theres a murder thats attributed to it then its either the parents fault if the solicitors go for the "violent video games made me do it" angle then the prosecution must take the "how did a 14 year old kid get an 18 rated game" I mean parents wouldn't buy their kids porn so why would they buy em a game containing it.

Re: Connecticut State Senator Alarmed Over (non-existent) Rape

if i remember correctly, the day i heard about this, it actually made me want to go play the  game even more haha
