The Lyndon LaRouche organization has thoughtfully collected all of its wacky attacks on video games on a single page.
The chronology dates back to 1996 and contains some real classics. Here is a sampling:
May14, 1999: EIR publishes an article by Anton Chaitkin and Jeffrey Steinberg, “Unnatural Born Killers: Video Brain-washing and Littleton,” accompanied by an interview with Colonel Grossman, “Video Games Teach Children To Kill.”
July 2, 1999: EIR cover story leads with Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr., “Star Wars and Littleton,” in which he emphasizes that “this murderous rampage will persist . . . whether or not the producers and distributors of cult-films and Nintendo-style video games intend that specific effect.”
Feb. 20, 2000: Helga Zepp-LaRouche gives a speech on “The Mark of the Beast: American’s Children Are in Mortal Danger...” She reviews the influence of Pokemon and Anime videos, as well as violent movies, on young minds, pre-teen as well as teen.
April 8, 2000: At a town meeting in New York City, Lyndon LaRouche urges the formation of a National Commission Against the “NewViolence.” (GP: LaRouche was running for president at the time)
Oct. 2, 2006: An adult gunman kills five girls and himself at an Amish school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
April 16, 2007: Mass killing at Virginia Tech. Cho Seung-Hui, a student and violent-video-game afficionado, kills 32 people, before taking his own life.
As GamePolitics has reported, LaRouche representatives repeatedly testified before the Virginia Tech review panel in an attempt to push the video game theory (see: VA Tech Panel Witness: Violent Games Should Be Banned Like Heroin).
As far as the 2006 Lancaster schoolhouse massacre, this is the first time that a video game linkage has even been suggested, as far as we know.

I was beginning to wonder what LaDouche was doing for all this time.
Actually, this document has been released last october, and it doesn't contain much. Just a one-page summary for their previous activities.
Note that from 2002 to 2007, they produced nothing on video games. GTA 3 release ? Nothing. Red Lake shootings ? Nothing. Dawson College shooting ? Nothing. Maybe it wasn't important enough for them.
ROFL You know, the Onion could print that list and people wouldn't have any trouble believing it was satire...
But, of course, it's all a conspiracy.
And... how was he planning on connecting the Amish school shooting to video games? I think he just lost was little credibility he had left... and that's not a lot.

I ran into a LaRouche follower handing out fliers in front of North Hall at the last Game Developers Conference. It was really sad since the conference had officially ended earlier that day and I was only there because I was part of the volunteer group and we had a wrap-up meeting that night.
The poor kid couldn't have been much more than 15 or 16 and he was really seriously brainwashed. So I started telling him about the "serious games" stuff, you know the games for cancer patients and physical therapy and the like. It was great watching his preconceived notions about the game industry fall apart as I told him about the symbolic nature of evil and the role of parents in child protection. By the end he was following me around like a lost and confused puppy. I hope that night's talk has helped him to from a richer understanding of the nature of the world.
So I point out, if you run into the younger members of this "crusade"...be nice to them. They are not past saving and with a little kindness and straight talk it is possible to get them to start thinking critially again.
I just have to say excellent post! Don't shoot the messenger, explain the problems with the message.

The part of that that scared me the most was the passing references to his 2000 presidental campaign of which I was not aware. Just the thought of his possibly becoming the president (oh 0.00000002%) is still enough to make me want to dig a bomb shelter, hide out there, and await the end of the world.
Someone might want to call the doctors....he needs to be locked up in an mental insane assyluam or something. Seriously with a picture like that....you don't need a warrant.
