Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

July 1, 2008 -

Last week GamePolitics reported on the controversy surrounding The Torture Game 2, an amateur online offering in which players inflict injury upon a defenseless human-like figure.

One News Now reports that media watchdog group the Parents Television Council has issued an alert to parents about the game. The site quotes PTC exec Gavin McKiernan:

The Internet can be a great resource for kids...  [But] parents need to be aware that there's [sic] so many negative things they can be doing – from chat rooms, where they expose themselves to sexual predators, to violent and depraved games and so-called entertainment like this.

...any kid who's sitting around playing the Torture Game or whose parents are allowing him to play Grand Theft Auto at home, is opening themselves up to a lot of potential negative repercussions that they may not realize for years.

oh. I do know that these same beliefs regard the eagle, a symbol of America, and the bat as birds which are abominations.

That refers to eating them. Eagles, vultures, and bats are unclean flying animals.

"...praying about it..."

Heaven forbid she tries to do something useful, instead she just prays about it, what a joke.

Re: Visit the OneNewsNow site

I do think it's funny that when you try to register, they ask for your Latitude and Longitude.

What are they going to do if they oppose what you say?  Launch a nuclear missile at your house?

Re: Visit the OneNewsNow site

What kind of website needs to know your latitude and longitude? How many people even know that for their homes?

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

Good job PTC on making more people aware of it.  *Thumbs up*  You guys sure are doing a great job.  /sarcasm.

Very. Try searching Newgrounds.

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

NO UR doing it wrong ... I figured that, I just meant I'm surprised that those retards at the PTC didn't suggest this was something that could be obtained at a gamestore (or ordered online)

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

There are vile and disgusting and nasty things on the internet, let me show them to you.

Yes that is the way the PTC works. If you want to know where to find all the nudity and excesssive violence in modern media, just subscribe to the PTC's mailing list. That is about all anyone can find useful about it.

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

Now the Torture Game will have more public attention and more pageviews on Newgrounds. Good job, PTC assholes...

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

At least, they didn't blame the game industry, nor the ESRB ratings system, for that.

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

I'm sure they will correct that oversight soon. They did like to tie GTA4 with the Torture Game though...

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

Agreed, I'll give them that, but I am always wary of someone who not only wants to save my children, but then has to exaplin what they are saving them from..

Always makes me curious just how badly they needed saving in the first place.

Re: Parents Television Council Issues Warning on Torture Game

You know they do on the inside.

Way to go guys...

I seem to have keyboard Dyslexia...

Just wanted to add, this is going to be yet another one of those games made famous by the very people trying to censor it, isn't it?

Andrew EisenI would, however, call someone who routinely kills time by playing random games on their phone a gamer.10/30/2014 - 12:15pm
E. Zachary KnightMatthew, AE, Yeah, that is why I have a hard time understanding critics of Sarkeesian. I look at her videos as a Feminist review of video games, but for some reason, others look at them as personal attacks.10/30/2014 - 12:01pm
E. Zachary KnightDefinitely a good answer. That is the way I lean. If you actively chose to stop gaming, or just stopped out of habit, then yeah, you are no longer a gamer.10/30/2014 - 11:45am
Matthew WilsonAE i agree, but it is worth pointing out the fact that that is whats happening.10/30/2014 - 11:45am

quiknkoldwaiting in line. Thats not being a Gamer. Thats akin to me reading a Pamphlet in line and calling myself an active reader. or watching a movie trailer on a tv in walmart and calling myself an active movie goer. There has to be some form of repetitive10/30/2014 - 11:42am
quiknkoldbeing A Gamer is a Conscious decision. I am consciously engaging in this form of media and showing some form of enthusiasm. The only person I Wouldnt call a gamer is somebody who has a random game on their phone just to kill 5 minutes cause they are10/30/2014 - 11:41am
E. Zachary KnightSo how much time must pass since the last time you played a game before you are no longer a gamer?10/30/2014 - 11:33am
Andrew Eisen"Plays" is present tense so the clarification doesn't seem necessary to me.10/30/2014 - 11:18am
quiknkoldI would change that from "One who plays games" To "One who currently plays games". Like my friend as a kid playd games but then he stopped and hasnt for the last decade+ so I wouldnt call him a Gamer.10/30/2014 - 11:16am
Andrew EisenHmm, that sounds like a great idea for a series of articles! I bet they'd be well-received and not taken the complete wrong way at all!10/30/2014 - 11:12am
Andrew EisenThat's right, gamer simply means one who plays games. That's it. The idea that "gamer" refers to something very limited and specific, well, that's no longer applicable in this day and age of mainstream gaming.10/30/2014 - 11:12am
Andrew EisenMatthew - As I said last night, that is not a bad thing. Different types of reviews to serve different interests is a GOOD thing and should be encouraged! There is not, nor should there be, only one way to review a game or anything else.10/30/2014 - 11:01am

E. Zachary KnightNeeneko, Matthew, yeah, there is no "wrong" way to review a game. It all depends on who the reviewer wants reading the review.10/30/2014 - 10:48am
