Suspect Blames Fiery Motorcycle Chase on Video Games

Utah’s KSL-5 reports that a 27-year-old man who led state police on a 100 MPH chase before causing a fiery accident said that such risky driving had always worked for him in video games.

Daniel Savino survived the crash with just a bad case of road rash but now faces a laundry list of criminal charges:

As for motive, Savino told troopers this was his own video game adventure.

"I don’t know whether he was trying to act out a scene in a video game or what he was trying to do, but he said it always worked for him in video games," Roden said.

Maybe he should’ve just stuck to doing it in games. The character in-game doesn’t feel the same pain someone in real life would.

Yeah.  They showed more concern for the mom and kids, then laid out basic facts, ran the video, then they mention video games in the light "whatever worked for him in video games didn’t work in real life."  You can’t get much more balanced than that.

It’s been my experience that a lot of thigs work in video games, but few of them work out in real life. From the sound of this news story, this guy didn’t even have a reason to racing around at 100 mph. And since he wasn’t even smart enough to wear a shirt or helmet on his little adventure, I think the courts should have no problem proving that he’s an idiot.

I could also see this as the actions of some supporters of Anti-video-game and Anti-media-we-don’t-like to try to pad the so-called statistics justifying their false claims that video games are to blame.

While the second one is a pretty weird conspiracy theory (though I really wouldn’t dismiss the actions of such sociopaths who tend to be the majority of such groups), I’d think the first one would be a greater possibility.

Jack Thompson would blame world war 2 on Call of Duty if he could, lets not lend any fuel to his pathetic fire and just not talk about him here, as soon as he is mentioned his heart starts racing and he spends a few days putting together a load of bile which he thinks is the most witty comment ever and those words alone will take down the videogame industry (which we are all part of mind you) and then goes away convinced that he has destroyed our morale completely and totally.

Or making us feel threatened with falsified court reports, letters and other things making it sound like he is rubbing shoulders with higher ups, he is the equivalent of the man who rings his own phone when he is out with his mates and says, "what no CANCEL the stocks meeting! I have to go see the head of ford motor company in an hour!"

That’s all that should be said of Thompson now, he is a pathetic old man with no existence outside of this website and his worthless attacks on the videogame industry. Right now all that seems to be keeping him going is his own hatred and unwavering belief that he is right, even when faced with enough evidence to put the prime minister away for incompetence were it he who was saying these things.

On the subject of the crash, I think it is a sad situation, people should not be acting like this in any situation, and to blame it on entertainment media is cowardly and wrong, but people will do what people will do.

Actually you’re wrong and you know it, just like the Metropolitian Moron of Miami is always wrong about video games. It’s been proven that anti-video game fools like Thompson have been lying.

There is no proof that "violent" video games or any video game cause harm. After all, video games are protected by the First Amendment, and if you’re going to infringe on a Constitutional right like freedom of speech based on the claim that the speech in question is “dangerous”, then you better damn well show absolute proof of that. It’s NEVER been done.

If there is a danger so clear and so threatening to the American people that causes these self-righteous politicians to step on the First Amendment, wouldn’t any rational thinking person have to believe that the danger would have to be so obvious and clear that there would be no argument against it? Especially since you’re directly contradicting a Constitutional amendment.

We, the American people, have not been given any valid reason to believe that this abridging of our freedom of speech is necessary. There just simply isn’t any evidence at all of any danger from “violent” video games. This “protection” from “violent” video games isn’t needed or wanted for that matter, but please feel free to use everyone’s tax dollars for protection from things like a 10-foot storm surge from a Category 3 or greater hurricane or the fuselage of a 747 airplane entering the workplace or the home.

Here’s a quote that best describes Thompson and the mainstream media, from a deleted scene from the school shooting episode of the TV show One Tree Hill, by Brooke Davis(played by Sophia Bush) after a news reporter asked her how she was feeling while the standoff was still going on:

“You should be ashamed of yourself. There are kids inside our school fearing for their lives right now, terrified that someone’s going to put a gun in their face and pull the trigger, and you want to know how I’m feeling?! Our pain is not a commodity for you, it’s not a newsbite to boost your ratings, because tomorrow, or the next day, or the next week when we go back to school, changed forever by a day that will never leave us, where are you going to be? At the next tragedy, thrusting your microphone in the face of the next fractured person, asking them how they feel? Lady, that is not journalism. You are not contributing anything to society. You’re buzzards circling the carnage, but you prey on the living. That is how I’m feeling, but something tells me that you’re not going to hear that.”

Know your place, shut your mouth, grow up, and get a life. Thompson will have to when he gets disbarred in the foreseeable future.

Yep.  You did read that correctly.  You’ve been defanged whether you want to admit that or not is immaterial.  Your ability to sue everyone under the sun who opposes your viewpoint in a malicious attempt to bend them to your will is at and end.  Lawyer will no longer be a part of your life unless it beings with "ex".  That fact makes you pointless in this game that is video game regulation.

You’re a fossil Jack.  A throwback from a time when gamers simply played games rather than defend them.  You cried wolf loud enough the ECA was born.  You’ve done MORE for the pro-gamer movement than anyone else could Jack.  Bravo.

On an end note you will NEVER be remembered as an anti-gaming advocate.  You will be the history’s footnote on the subject of gaming becoming mainstream and therefore politically active.  Your law career was defeated by your own actions just as your anti-gaming movement was.

Congratulations on going the way of the Dodo bird.

You haven’t received any apologies, Jack.  Just admit it.  This is clearly a case of someone covering his own ass, and everyone in the world can see it but you.

You’re a lunatic.  If you feel the need to sue me for saying so, go for it.  You’ve never succeeded yet and you won’t start now.  You’re grossly incompetent, which is good, because you’re desperately trying to be an enabler.  You’re trying to enable murderers and child abusers by giving them an easy out.  That’s a shocking stance for a man with a son to take.  I wonder what he thinks of your advocacy of child abuse?

You mean the emails with the heading "Oh this is an apology" and then when you open it, it ususally reads as: Sorry that you are an insane douche bag, Jack. Go forth and have a ‘sexual departure’ (means Jack go #@%& yourself)

    Then yes! You had hundreds.

Actually humble apologees? Ummm I think 0, unless all your fake emails you send to yourself count?

I know its gonna be one of the "I have this feeling" arguments, but I honestly think that the current JT in this topic is an imposter/troll. Theres a certian sense of arrogance that comes with Jack’s posts, this guy sounds like he’s spouting cookie-cutter mumbo-jumbo to piss us off.

Yes Jack, nobody ever rode a motorbike around like an idiot until Video Games made them do it.

I notice you’ve now switched from causal link to copycat. A wholly different argument, someone chooses to copycat, they want to do it like something they have seen, which automatically confers knowledge of a difference between the two.

After all, should someone, God Forbid, ever start to copycat Jack the Ripper, we should then ban all those violent history books that tell us about him?

Anyway, about the article, as has been said before, I have a very strong suspicion it was actually said sarcastically.

I saw this story on CNN yesterday afternoon and knew it was gonna be on GP really soon.

Personally, anyone with half a brain would realise tht it doesn’t work in reality. I’m more on the side of this being some kind of sarcastic comment. I mean, even though I know people who own these things, and they do like games, most of them are smart enough to know that games don’t have real physics. Not to mention that most who do ride have the special gear so they wouldn’t get so torn up if they do end up getting well aquainted with the ground. I’m suprised this bonehead survived getting thrown 1000yds (what CNN said, not sure if this was some kind of mistake) without a helmet and not even a shirt. Must show you how thick his head is though.

I typically see hundreds of these idiots driving around on those bikes on the major highways here in Orlando. They do really stupid things, cut off cars at 100mph, hit full breaks in front of cars for no appearant reason (they nearly made be hit them using that, note that the speed limit on the road was 65mph). Popping wheelies, just trying to look like some kind of dare devil or something. It’s more like watching how Darwin award candidates commute to university/work than anything else. If anything, this guy should get his licnese revoked perminetly (as an example to these other "Dare devils"), get at least a year in jail (for attempting to evade police), and knowing these bikes don’t need to be insured in most states, pay for a BRAND NEW vehicle for the woman.
