Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through Xbox Live

Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through Xbox Live

September 9, 2008

GamePolitics readers will recall that Xbox reps were on hand at both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in recent weeks, touting the Xbox Live service as a way for younger voters to get involved.

This CNN video offers visuals of what gamers can do, politically speaking, via Xbox Live. Options include taking part in opinion polls and getting registered by linking to Rock the Vote. There's also an interview clip with G4's Adam Sessler, who helpfully points out:

I think it's great because, obviously, anybody registering to vote, that can't be a bad thing. I think that one could say that it's such a passive and relaxed experience, doing it there on your couch... will that stimulate the person to actually make it to the pools in November? I hope they all realize you cannot vote through Xbox Live.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

I just wanted to post a response to this video:

At about 1:15 in the video you can see snapshots of Viva Pinata: Party Animals.  This is cool to see on CNN, because my wife was on the Microsoft Games Test Org for this game.  We actually met when I was interviewing to move to the games group, and the first title I worked on was the original Viva Pinata (then Viva Pinata (PC), then Banjo).

Go RARE!

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

I hope they all realize you cannot vote through Xbox Live.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if somebody out there actually thought they could.

*Sigh*

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Oh Adam Sessler.  So hilarious and yet such wasted talent on the cess pool that is the rotting and decaying channel that is G4.

And yeah give me old school signing up to vote anyday.  xD

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Also this has to be said whats up with the stupid video game puns.

Its like they couldn't resist with the whole "Game on gets a new meaning" styck.  I mean really.  Death to puns!

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

WHAT? NOOOOOO-oh wait. i've got an absentee ballot, all's well.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Adam Sessler is a great guy; I wish he had a bigger platform than G4.  He displays a level of insight and maturity that is sorely lacking from almost every aspect of the games industry (gamepolitics excluded, of course).

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Is could be a bad thing for people voting and not know what the hell they are voting for.  Don't rock the vote if you dont know the details.  We want educated voters who are voting on where the people stand and how well they will do their job, not just voting because one is black or the other has a female, or because he is a war vet, or ONLY because she is against abortion even if the girl is raped.  You need to know who is best based on all of what they stand for, not just one thing.

Example: Republican = rich get richer, poor and middle class get poorer, oil prices will go up higher, and the focus will pull away from solar and wind and focus on hydrogen...

Democrat = universal health care, overly helpful to the extremely poor....

Both Parties = no real international experience that will actually help out, no economic experience that will help out, and care about where they stand more than what the people they represent want.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

This is why we should adopt the instant-runoff voting system. Elections still have one winner, but lesser-known candidates have a better chance of being represented.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Except that there's no point to it. You've got however many people who are running running. You have to pick one. You pick one, and one guy gets picked enough times to get to the presidency.

If somebody were appealing enough to be president, they would be. It's simple, it's fairly quick, and it's working. The only reason to even attempt to change that system to one more suitable to third parties is because of a desire to FORCE people to accept third parties.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Adam Sessler for President, anyone?

: D

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Your example is the typical talking point BS and is exactly why so many morons vote how they do.

Re: Adam Sessler: Remember, You Can't Actually Vote Through

Ah, that Adam Sessler. Always on hand with helpful information!
