Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman Publisher

February 2, 2009 -

Here at GamePolitics, we love to see game consumer activism. But police in Japan accuse a local gamer of taking the concept way too far.

29-year-old Takao Ike apparently became disenchanted with game offerings from Hudson Entertainment. Ike sent nearly a dozen threatening messages to the Japanese publisher. In one he said that a bomb would kill everyone at the firm. In another he attempted to extort money.

In a confession to police, Ike said:

I did it because I posted my demands concerning the games, but the games didn't improve.

Ironically, Hudson publishes the Bomberman series.

Wait, people still care about Bomberman?

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

As a gamer, I say this.  I do NOT support the idea of threatening lives to improve game quality, no matter what.  It's completely wrong, and it paints a negative image of gamers.

sonic unleached (yeah i know mispelled) was a half good game half not bad. the sonic parts where cool and fast pace whehog where annyoing  but not bad to ruin the whole game for me. so they are starting to get it right just having some trouble. hope they keep the engine very cool.

unleached, I need to paly it.

Been nawing on sonic 3D iedas

Sonic “3D”

Musings on a better 3D sonic

First off you need solid and detailed level design look to Mario and Zelda for good level design, yes Sonic dose more than run through loops and rings he explores various landscapes which means he needs to wall grab or be able to use speed+ wall to run up it using his spiky ball form.  The spike ball is his most powerful attack when augmented by speed, he should also be able to punch and kick, armored foes need to be killed using spiked form or another advanced attack, I would like for non lethal armored foes for to act like walls IE he can jump on them or wall jump/kick off from them to gain air and hopefully speed to crush the foe in a spike ball form or a powerful kick, when the creature attacks you can be tossed from it or take damage depending on what the creature is.  Full running and fast walking would be the difference in max analog and medium analog pressure.

For more gameplay additions use items that can mimic other characters (knuckles wall climbing knuckles and added punch attack, tail’s tails for gliding/flying for instance).

Now we have some basics covered how would hit points be handled well Mario has the right idea you have 3 hearts that heal with coins well sonic can have that upgrade a heart every few thousand rings up to 6 or so max.

A speed mode is needed to handle the more race track like bits of the game, the speed mode basically brings the camera out some and locks it behind sonic,(you can tweak this mode in options to palace the camera and lock unlock it.)

Now Boss fights are more tricky, first off for some you need a arena or large area, this is where a lock on or slow mo button can be helpful to line up an attack when you are speeding around the enemy find the targeted area and pounce it while its uncovered or weak.

Slow mo can be done right, if you have played JK2 not only does the world slow but you can become faster, IE in slow mo mode you do not slow down, instead you operate  at a more controllable rate.

All that’s left is gameplay fine tuning and general character designs.

Story wise I’d go with anything that predates Adventure and offer Eggman/Robotic mdoes, both work for the character but I am more fonde of him being called Robotic.

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

I played the game for 40 minutes, then took it out and started playing Sonic Adventures 2 on the Dreamcast.

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

He does have a point about the Bomberman games sucking. Look at Act Zero on the 360. Too bad he didn't go after Sega because Sonic is having the same fate as well.

When Jack Thompson runs his mouth, does anyone really care what he has to say anymore?

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

Well Honeycakes can kiss a Toliet seat for all i care, Im hoping the Sonic series will get back on it's feet, Cause Mario is started sucking something terrible when he started having new games.

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

I'd disagree about Mario games... Mario games are in a sorta hit and miss kinda of status. Unlike Sonic games which almost all suck compared to the old days of sonic, Mario does atleast amange to put out a decent title every now and then. I mean, though i haven't played it, i have heard lots of s good things about Mario Galaxy, and the trailers to the newest Mario RPG on the DS are looking pretty good aswell. And i know i really liked the new super mario bros on the DS... Ya there's some crap in there like some of the spin off games, but that's what i mean by hit and miss... they may make a bad game once in a while but they do still make good games aswell. Really, so much unlike the sonic games where i think the last decent sonic game wasn't even made by team sonic...

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

Agreed Mario as had a ok time in the 3D liem light, 64 was good with level design solid core gameplay mechanics but the power ups made the game feel not Mario like.

Sunshine news pissing..er…water streaming based mechanics where hit and miss and I hated some of the level design elements that made mandatory parts of the game to hard.

Now we have galaxy and besides from how easy it is it looks to be a better Mario game than sunshine at least, even with the screwed up walk on a world/asteroid setup.

Sonic just does not catch much of a break, they try and mix the high speed zones and normal level exploring, I think they really need to relook at their level design and offer a gameplay mode that makes “racing” in ball form a bit easier, also adding a slowmo ability might make speeding around that much easier to control.

Re: Police Accuse Gamer of Threatening to Blow Up Bomberman

Well. Super Mario Bros. NES was a huge improvement over Mario Bros. Atari/Arcade.

I don't think that SMB 2 was much of an improvement, but that is my persona opinion.

SMB 3 was a huge improvement no doubt about it.

SMB World SNES was a great improvement on the SMB3 world.

Never played any after that, but SMB 64 was supposed to be the perfect 2d/3d transition.

I think the reason Sonic didn't translate well to 3d because the speed aspect of the gameplay was based around a track ball style level design that didn't translate to 3d very well.

As for Bomberman, I haven't played a Bobmerman besides Bomberman vs Wario for the Gameboy. That was really fun.

I agree, take down those people who decided to make Bomberman Act Zero.

NeenekoThey have and exercise control over which games are allowed on their privately controlled 'open forum'. Their endorsement is fairly minimal since it is only 'we do not reject this', but it is still an endorsement of sorts.12/17/2014 - 3:58pm
NeenekoHistorically there have been issues with libraries allowing some groups but not others. Perhaps 'endorsement' is too strong a word, but their editorial control IS a preapproval process, even if the standards are pretty minimal.12/17/2014 - 3:56pm
E. Zachary KnightLet's put this a different way. My local library allows any group to reserve and use multipurpose rooms. That does not mean that the Library endorses all events that take place in those rooms.12/17/2014 - 12:54pm
E. Zachary KnightValve's editorial control comes from removing problem games and accepting games to Steam. They make no claim over any games otherwise.12/17/2014 - 12:52pm
E. Zachary KnightNeeneko, It is not at all a form of endorsement. Grenlight is an open forum for game developers to pitch their game to Valve/Steam and Steam users. Does Valve have some editorial control? Yes, but not to the point that they preapprove games.12/17/2014 - 12:51pm
Neeneko@EZK - I disagree. Greenlight is built off Valve's brand. While not an explicit endorsement, it is a form of it, otherwise Greenlight would have no value over other platforms.12/17/2014 - 12:05pm

prh99I just wish if they are going to curate (as selective and rare as that is) for content, they'd do little for quality (like does this game actually function at all). Personally, I avoid GreenLight and Early Access like the plague because of lax standards.12/17/2014 - 1:34am
