Jack Thompson Threatens to “Proceed” Against Utah Attorney General

In the fallout from his latest, apparently unsuccessful attempt to legislate video games in Utah, disbarred Miami attorney Jack Thompson has issued a vague legal threat to Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. The popular Republican is serving his third term as Utah’s top law enforcement officer.

On Friday the Salt Lake Tribune reported that Shurtleff had expressed concerns about the legality of HB 353, the Thompson-conceived video game bill which was vetoed by Gov. Jon Huntsman last week.

Thompson, clearly, was not thrilled with the news. He referred to Shurtleff as "dead meat" in the header of an e-mail forwarded to GamePolitics later on Friday.

A Sunday e-mail from Thompson to Salt Lake Tribune reporter Robert Gehrke (and cc:’d to GP) threatens to "proceed" against Shurtleff if the A.G. doesn’t move against major retailers for what Thompson claims is "the distribution of pornography to minors in violation of state law." By way of defining porn, Thompson attached links to strip club and hooker scenes from Grand Theft Auto IV. However, while certainly not intended for younger buyers, GTA IV has not been declared obscene in any U.S. jurisdiction.

Oh, and there’s a deadline for Shurtleff to act: 5:00 P.M. today.

As GamePolitics has previously reported, Thompson called for Shurtleff’s impeachment in 2007 when the A.G. suggested that a piece of Thompson-authored video game legislation then before the Utah House was unconstitutional.

GamePolitics has requested comment on Thompson’s threat from Rep. Mike Morley, the sponsor of HB 353, as well as from Gayle Ruzicka, the politically-powerful Thompson ally who heads the ultra-conservative Utah Eagle Forum. We have also asked Shurtleff’s office to comment. We’ll post any comments that we receive.

UPDATE: Apparently unable to wait for his own 5:00 P.M. deadline, Thompson has written to Utah’s Obscenity and Pornography Complaints Ombudsman… Except that the person he addressed his letter to is a law enforcement director in Utah A.G.’s Office. The "porn czar" position was eliminated in 2003 for budgetary reasons – which may be an indication of how serious Thompson is about all of this.

UPDATE 2: Rep. Morley has commented to GamePolitics on Thompson’s threat to "proceed" against Shurtleff: "I know nothing about that."

Hit the jump for Thompson’s Sunday letter to Shurtleff, the "dead meat" e-mail and the new letter to the porn ombudsman:

Re:   Sale of Grand Theft Auto IV to Underage Kids in Utah

Dear Attorney General Shurtleff:

I wrote you a letter on March 6 proving to you, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that major Utah retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart are selling in their brick and mortar stores and via the Internet the pornographic Grand Theft Auto IV game to minors in your state in criminal violation of Utah’s Sexual Material Harmul to Minors Law.

You did nothing upon learning of this ongoing criminal activity.  Your failure to prosecute these criminal acts constitutes an impeachable offense in your state, as you are in knowing breach of your oath of office to enforce the laws of your state, in this instance laws to protect children.

Let me be clear:  Either you prosecute these retailers for this criminal activity, or I shall take the necessary legal action to secure a court order requiring you to do so.  You have until five o’clock pm this coming Monday to act or tell me that you will act to faithfully discharge your oath of office as Attorney General in these specific regards.

Here are two links to streaming videos that display just some of the pornographic content in Grand Theft Auto IV, which “game” is being sold to minors throughout Utah in violation of criminal laws that the people of Utah passed and demand that you enforce.

Ken Wallentine
Obscenity and Pornography Complaints Ombudsman
Utah State Capitol Complex

Re:   Sale of Sexual Material Harmful to Minors—Grand Theft Auto IV—in Utah

Dear Mr. Wallentine:

It was a great pleasure meeting you outside Gary Herbert’s office about two months ago.  I was with Gayle Ruzicka, Karen Clark, and Alan and Suzanne Osmond to discuss HB 353 with Lt. Gov. Herbert.  I particularly enjoyed learning that we both have a dear friend in Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, who heartily endorsed HB 353, in light of the movie and video game retailers’ fraudulent activities.

As you know, the bill was overwhelmingly passed by both houses, only to see Gov. Huntsman veto it.  Mr. Huntsman either has no understanding whatsoever of the bill or he doesn’t care to know.  His explanation that the movie and video game industries would take their age ratings off the movies and games was an utterly absurd statement, as that cannot be done by virtue of binding contractual obligations they have.  The Governor was sold a bill of goods which he bought, for whatever reason.  As a result, we can look forward to more false advertising by major retail concerns such as Best Buy.

Be that as it may, Utah’s obscenity/pornography/sexual material harmful to minors statutes are still on the books.  Gov. Huntsman hasn’t managed to void them—yet.

Thus, I write you regarding those constitutional laws, as I am told you are Utah’s Obscenity and Pornography Complaints Ombudsman.  If you are not, please get this letter to him/her quickly.

Nearly a month ago, I informed A.G. Shurtleff in writing that all video game retailers are openly selling Grand Theft Auto IV to 17-year-olds in Utah.  They are doing this both on-line and in their brick and mortar stores.  Why the video game industry thinks it can sell indecent material to 17-year-olds just because they have a “Mature” rating system that  uses 17 years as the demarcation line when the law makes it 18 is beyond me, but the ways of the video game industry are inexplicable to most normal folks.  A 17-year-old is a minor, as you know, and yet someone of that age can walk into Wal-Mart, show a driver’s license indicating he is 17, and walk out with this indecent, pornographic game.

This particular game clearly constitutes sexual material harmful to minors, and its sale to anyone under 18 is a criminal act.  If you doubt that, please click on the below two links and see for yourself.  I believe most juries in Utah would find this material to be obscene under Miller v. California for sale to adults, let alone children.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNOdsrI068w

http://boinkology.com/2008/04/29/the-ladies-of-liberty-city/

I don’t know if Mr. Shurtleff is looking the other way from this ongoing criminal activity because of his cozy relationship with the video game industry, which has included not only the payment of campaign contributions from the Entertainment Software Association to him as well as his doing PSA’s with the ESRB, which were really unreported in-kind campaign contributions by the industry to him during his re-election cycle.  Regardless of the reason, his failure to enforce these criminal laws has to stop.  This failure is a violation of his oath of office and constitutes an impeachable offense.

Please advise at your earliest convenience that the Attorney General has either begun a prosecution of those individuals selling GTA IV to minors or that he has sent out a letter statewide, through all major media, that this practice must stop immediately.  If he does not do either of those things, then I shall proceed in the fashion I must to see to it that Mr. Shurtleff starts doing his job in this regard.

Children are more important than keeping a scofflaw industry happy in Utah.

Warm personal regards, Jack Thompson

If (or when?) that happens, I wonder what Jack is going to do.

He has already alienated most reasonable allies he has in his fight (example: NIMF)- will he go so far as to alienate even fellow right-wing zealots?

And if he does- how bad could the repurcussions be?  I doubt the Eagle Forum would take that lying down.

  2. ezbiker555 says:

I honest to god wished that Jack Thompson could see our comments right now. Oh and if you can, that lawsuit of mine againsts you is still in the air. Mayby if you stopped calling me and other gamers, potheads, and bastards, I could drop it.

Lol, since that’s what he did to me for telling him to get a new job a while back. 😛

Seriously Thompson, use your brain for once!

  7. Krono says:

Yes, once that we know of. Though repeat offenders doesn’t really fall under the "usually heading". And Jack spreads his offenses out against different people anyways, which likely lessens the alarm. He’s not fixated on, or escalting against one person, he’s a bag of hot air blowing around on many different people, bouncing from one person to the next.

Actually I think the funniest thing would be if the guy he was trying to sue googled him and found out he got in trouble for sending gay porn to a judge.

Yeah, he didn’t say "figuratively speaking" this time.  I’d call that a threat.  And, in a delicious bit of irony, we know he’s "obsessed with the violent video game Grand Theft Auto"…

I figured Mountain Time — but mainly because I want A.G. Shurtleff, who must be quaking in his boots in the face of Jack-O’s threat, to have as much time as possible to do as Jack Thompson commands and get to prosecuting those filth traffickers.

  16. Benji says:

Was just thinking that – that JT has absolutely no legal standing.  He could lean on his Eagle Forum pals to do the filing for him, I suppose – they have standing, but they’d also end up being the ones taking the fall if this effort to soothe JT’s ego goes disastrously awry.  They apparently have influence and might have a lot to lose from this.

  17. Krono says:

Not usually. The worst it usually warrants is a bit of scrutiny to make sure you’re not making an actual threat, and the FBI or Secret Service politely knocking on your door to ask you to tone it on the remarks that can be construed as threats.

  18. Zerodash says:

Don’t forget how he chastized the govenor for focusing on Hurricaine Katrina related matters instead of the real threat- videogames.

  19. tollwutig says:

Hmm now if Shurtleff were smart he’d get a warrant taken out on Jack for communicating threats.  He wouldn’t need to do much else, cause as soon as Thompson so much as went through a License check he’d be detained for a few hours while the Police contacted Utah to determine if they were going to extradite him to Utah or not.

  20. tollwutig says:

When it was overturned in court Jack had a fit and blamed everyone but the fact that the law was unconstitutional.   He also decided to accuse the LA AG for not cooperating with him to defend the law.

  25. nightwng2000 says:

    Dennis,

When contacting the AG’s office, did you email them or call them for comment?  I was curious if you emailed them and attached a copy of the email with the "Dead Meat" comment in it.

  26. Zerodash says:

The only plausable threat to the AG depends on how much sway the Eagle Forum and other Utah zealots have over the legislature.  They managed to get this law through legislature with little problem.  However, the Eagle Forum may have enough power to push a law like this…its a much bigger stretch to get the AG impeached…

  27. JDKJ says:

  29. JDKJ says:

The funny part is that Jack-O has absolutely no legal standing to seek a court order compelling the Attorney General of Utah to do a damn thing. He doesn’t have any connection to Utah other than being accepted there by a bunch of similarily-minded, right-wing zealot-freaks, hence, he has no legal standing whatsoever to seek the complusion of a state official to act or refrain from acting.

  30. black manta says:

I can’t wait to see what Shurtleff’s reaction is going to be especially now that Jack is disbarred and really isn’t in any position to make good on his threats unlike last time when he was still a lawyer (and even then still couldn’t).  Still, he does have his allies in the Eagle Forum there, and it seems like they’re carrying a grudge.  So who knows?

Still, it’ll be amusing to say the least.  Especially if Shurtleff decides to press charges, as he’s already been threatened by him once before.  One thing’s for sure: Utah now knows what Louisiana and everyone else knows already: he’s a psycho.

  31. Adam says:

Somehow I think we all knew that this would happen. He didn’t get impeached then and he’s not going to get impeached this time (especially considering no wrong has been done). It’s just Thompson blowing smoke like he always does.

  32. Nullanon says:

I agree with your assessment, but I had a debit card when I was thirteen, and enough money in it to purchase video games if I so chose. Most sites have a way of knowing just how old the holder of the card is, of course, but still.

  39. HarmlessBunny says:

No clue… I think rather than want to spend more time with the bugger, they’ll just buy a plane ticket and tell him never to come back.

  40. HarmlessBunny says:

Funny how he keeps going on how they are illegally selling to minors over the internet…Jack loves ignoring the obvious and has been bluntly told that some sites (not required) do ask the user to input their age and to purchase said item, you need a CREDIT CARD (which you have to be 18 or older to get one :P)

Oh of course though, Jack has them right where he wants them. You see it is all part of his plan! The Attorney General not only will become Jack’s puppet…and sue game companies and best buy…they’ll move onto T.V …taking out H.B.O for having nudity and profanity on television! Of course only Jack can sent nudity (aka hardcore gay porn) to places in public, because he is JACK THOMPSON (DISBARRED) ATTORNEY AT LAW!

The funniest thing about this latest temper tantrum is that this is the first time his shameful disbarrment has been mentioned in the larger media.  27 counts of unethical conduct (including 4 for deliberately lying to a court) is hardly something to be proud of, and more people are learning of that every day.

Jack seems oblivious to the fact that other people have the internet- powerful people.  All they need to do is a quick search, and there lies not only Jack’s record, but all of the stupid things he has said all these years.

So much for Jack "Dead Meat" Thompson.

  47. Shoehorn Oplenty says:

"the pornographic Grand Theft Auto IV"

Again, this is not pornography, you can see worse in an episode of the Sopranos or Sex in the City and Thompson doesn’t seem to view those as being as bad as GTA.

"You did nothing upon learning of this ongoing criminal activity."

That’s because it isn’t criminal activity, dumbass!

"Your failure to prosecute these criminal acts constitutes an impeachable offense in your state, as you are in knowing breach of your oath of office to enforce the laws of your state, in this instance laws to protect children."

LOL! Wouldn’t it be worse if an attorney general tried to prosecute non-criminal acts?

"Here are two links to streaming videos that display just some of the pornographic content in Grand Theft Auto IV"

I find it hilariously ironic that in all of Jack’s funny little crusades against what he does not approve of, the most pornographic material has been the gay porn he sent to a judge and made available for public view by not sealing it in the court record.

  63. Icehawk says:

Just a sidenote.  the -chan honorific refers to a female.  If he were japanese he would be jackie-san (technically he would be senpai.  Even if we dont like him he is older than most, hense considered senior).

Then again if jackie were japanese he would also have likely been tossed into an active volcano or feed to a nameless giant radioactive lizard to protect the public.  jackie does not understand the concept behind honor so would not do well in most other countries.  On second thought I wonder how much postage it would be to ship him off somewhere.. maybe Greenland.

  71. Ryno says:

Apparently you missed the whole part about him linking to videos on YouTube, which doesn’t carry ANYTHING pornographic. That pretty much puts the nail in the coffin right there.

Except that this is Jack we’re talking about, so…

  72. MasterAssassin says:

Jack’s defintion of pornography really makes me laugh. Those scenes he cited would probably be rated PG-13 in a movie. You can’t see anything with the hookers and the strippers have bikinis and thongs on to cover their private areas. There’s nothing even close to pornographic in GTAIV, the game is rated M for Mature and if your under 17 an adult has to be with you durring the purchase. In fact the retailers he cited also have the best enforcement policies according to the FCC. I honestly think the only thing that will stop Jack from acting like this if he ends in jail or sued for a lot of money and one or both will probably happen within the next year or so.

  73. Ryno says:

    Eureka!

Jack’s just a very misguided fan of 30 Rock. He think’s Tracy Jordan is real and he really did invent a porn video game. That explains it all.

    Well, most of it.

You’ve gotta give me at least some.

That game is rated Mature not Everyone or E10.  Did this guy forget the ESRB is there for purpose unless JT think they’re part of the conspiracy to corrupt the children.

Actually…..I think he does, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

  77. mdo7 says:

Oh boy, did Jack Thompson forget that he’s no longer a lawyer and he can’t bring a lawsuit to the Attorney General?

"threatens to "proceed" against Shurtleff if the A.G. doesn’t move against major retailers for what Thompson claims is "the distribution of pornography to minors in violation of state law." By way of defining porn, Thompson attached links to strip club and hooker scenes from Grand Theft Auto IV. However, while certainly not intended for younger buyers, GTA IV has not been declared obscene in any U.S. jurisdiction."

That game isn’t pornographic, it may have some hookers and strip club.  But they don’t have any penetration sex or anything you seen in Porno.  That game is rated Mature not Everyone or E10.  Did this guy forget the ESRB is there for purpose unless JT think they’re part of the conspiracy to corrupt the children.

"beyond any shadow of a doubt, that major Utah retailers such as Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart are selling in their brick and mortar stores and via the Internet the pornographic Grand Theft Auto IV game to minors in your state in criminal violation of Utah’s Sexual Material Harmul to Minors Law."

Jack, you jackass.  I never seen those store selling something beyond mature rated game.  They’re not allowed to carry AO rated game because they are considered pornographic.  I never seen Target, Wal-mart, or Best Buy carry any AO rated games.  They’ll never do that.  If a child wants to buy GTA4, they need a parent to buy it.  If a parent buy the game, whose’s fault is that?  So Jack does that mean unrated DVDs and music with explicit lyrics are evil also.  Are you going after those also.

"Let me be clear:  Either you prosecute these retailers for this criminal activity, or I shall take the necessary legal action to secure a court order requiring you to do so.  You have until five o’clock pm this coming Monday to act or tell me that you will act to faithfully discharge your oath of office as Attorney General in these specific regards."

That pushing it too far.  You don’t have the right to order anybody around.  If the US supreme Court finds out you’re using threat.  Kiss that appeal good bye, Jackie-chan (not the movie star, but using Japanese honorific ).

"As you know, the bill was overwhelmingly passed by both houses, only to see Gov. As a result, we can look forward to more false advertising by major retail concerns such as Best Buy".

More conspiracy theories Jack.  Good luck trying to convince them with your so-called "evidence".

"don’t know if Mr. This failure is a violation of his oath of office and constitutes an impeachable offense."

Adding more conspiracy Theory huh.  Keep going Jack.  No one will take this.

  82. Alex says:

  83. JDKJ says:

So lemme get this straight: Jack-O sends a letter complaining about A.G. Shurtleff to an individual in a particular official capacity but, in fact, that official capacity no longer exists and hasn’t existed for some time. Moreover, the individual to whom Jack sends his letter complaining about A.G. Shurtleff is, in fact, a subordinate of A.G. Shurtleff. Am I understanding this all correctly? And before I fall out of my chair and wet my pants laughing?

  85. JDKJ says:

O.K., then let’s try a different tack: Morley can get an inquiring email from GP with sufficient speed to make a timely "I dunno nothing" response but he can’t with similar speed get Jack Thompson’s e-mails?

And, back to the old tack: Just because Jack has Gargoyle put Morely in his place doesn’t neccessarily mean that Jack and Morely aren’t working directly with each other. The more obvious conclusion to be drawn is that Jack’s not the one with the juice on Morely — it’s Gargoyle. Besides, can we confidently extrapolate from one isolated incident as to the relationship between Thompson and Morely? One red-breasted robin does not a Spring make.

  86. Ryno says:

I too would like to know when anyone supposedly promised congress that they wouldn’t sell adult/mature games to minors. I’m sure there was some testimony before congress, but I’ll never take Jack’s word for what someone stated.

Does anyone know when and before whom this supposed appearance happened, or even better a copy/link to the transcript?

  87. E. Zachary Knight says:

If what happened during that Morley interview Dennis did, one must assume that Morley does not deal with Thompson directly but rather through the Eagle Forum. So if Thompson is not working directly with Morley, he would not have Morley’s direct email address.

  88. JDKJ says:

    @EZK & Alex:

It’s entirely improbable. You both seriously think that someone who has a close working relationship with a legislator — as Thompson obviously does with Morely — communicates with them through the same channels as a constituent does? And doesn’t have their personal e-mail address? Please.

And if he is referring to having no knowledge beyond what Thompson himself has already made public, then he needs to say just that. Which isn’t at all anywhere near the same as saying, "I know nothing about that."

  89. Torven says:

So does Utah also prohibit 17 year olds from attending R and NC-17 films?  Because so far as I can tell, an M game rating is essentially equivalent to an R movie rating.

  90. Zerodash says:

I have no idea about retailer-publisher contracts, but Jack is incorrect in his understanding of what this bill would have done to retailers.

They would simply stop promoting the ratings and may even not bother doing age checks.  Jack is trying to say the ESRB will remove its rating stickers from the packaging.  Which of course is another lie.

Then again, what else do you expect from Mr. 27 misconduct counts?  The man too sleazy to be a lawyer.

  91. jds says:

Loser loses again. Really, what is new with this douche?

    . . Wisdom begins in wonder. – Socrates . .

  92. Alex says:

This is entirely possible. It could also be that he’s simply referring to having no knowledge beyond what Thompson himself has already made public. It’s not something Thompson discussed with him aside from putting him on the cc list for those e-mails, it’s not something he necessarily approves of, he had no foreknowledge that Thompson would be doing/saying these things, etc.

I’m not under the affluence of incohol as some thinkle peep I am. I’m not half as thunk as you might drink. I fool so feelish I don’t know who is me, and the drunker I stand here, the longer I get.

  93. Wormdundee says:

I believe you are mistaken with his point about the 17-year olds buying GTAIV. GTAIV is rated M, which means it is perfectly fine for anyone 17 and up to buy. The rating for 18 and up is AO.

His point was that GTA is pornography, in which case the 18 year old restriction would apply.

So basically, his argument is that retailers are selling porn to minors. What a hilarious guy.

  94. Saxy says:

"His explanation that the movie and video game industries would take their age ratings off the movies and games was an utterly absurd statement, as that cannot be done by virtue of binding contractual obligations they have."

Really? Seriously? Am I living in another United States than this guy? Maybe I’m stupid, but I’m pretty sure there’s no contractual obligations there. Please, somebody correct me on this before I try to figure out what country he’s living in.

  95. Zerodash says:

The 94% refers to people under 17, Jack is going after sales to people who are exactly 17.  This is because, in his God-fearing Christian eyes, pretend bikinis are pornography.  Grasping at straws here, but then again what else do you expect from Jack?

  96. Hackangel says:

I just thought about the same thing myself. Is he trying to distance himself from Thompson, just like in that interview about bill HB353?

  97. Shoehorn Oplenty says:

"Nearly a month ago, I informed A.G. Shurtleff in writing that all video game retailers are openly selling Grand Theft Auto IV to 17-year-olds in Utah."

Uh, they aren’t 94% of the time… You remember? That great work you are trying to undo?

"They are doing this both on-line and in their brick and mortar stores."

Jack, I thought we had gone over this, time and time again. It still hasn’t sunk into his thick skull. You need a credit card to buy online. Credit cards are proof of age. If a kid is using an adults credit card, it either implies the kid has been given permission, or will be inserious trouble when his parent finds out.

"I believe most juries in Utah would find this material to be obscene under Miller v. California for sale to adults, let alone children."

Uh, I don’t think so. Didn’t he try this before and it was found that the content of GTA or any violent game comes anywhere near being deemed obscene under the Miller test?

    • the average person, applying contemporary community standards (not national standards, as some prior tests required), must find that the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest;

If this were true for GTA, then the Sopranos, Sex and the City and many other tv series or movies would be considered obscene.

    • the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct or excretory functions[1] specifically defined by applicable state law; and

Again, if a lapdance/stripper routine in a video game is defined as sexual conduct, then all those tv shows and movies have to go also.

Literary: I know the plot of GTA is fairly simplistic, but i found myself intrigued and wrestled with some of the choices you had to make during it, and was impressed at the outcomes of them. I also enjoyed the hilarious comedic radio stations which are very well written.

Artistic: The city, while based on NYC is beautifully rendered, all of the music is by recognised artists.

Political: There is a lot of political humour present in the game, poking fun at Republicans and Conservatives alike.

Still, from all indications, I’d say Thompson is about to head into some deep doo-doo if he’s serious about this.

Strange that Mike Morely would claim to know nothing about Jack Thompson’s threat to proceed against A.G. It’s all or nothing with him: any level of objective ‘pornographic’ content should be outlawed, all games are teaching people to kill and any protests or against his work results in legal threats and moral outrage.

I have sympathy for him, maybe he’s had harsh times in the playground or somewhere during childhood, but he’s physically a fully grown adult and needs to take responsibility, rather than constantly screaming at everyone around him. He can’t go on like this forever.

Agreed.  And here I thought this was going to be a somewhat dull week.  Thank you Jack, for making us laugh in these difficult times.  The world needs a clown.

  135. vellocet says:

I think I speak for all GP readers here when I say I hope that JT actually "proceeds" with whatever action he’s threatening.  We all love to watch him fail.  Which is every time he tries.

  136. Vake Xeacons says:

It is really sad when his only friends left are Gayle and Lt. Col. Grossman. But he’s got no one to blame but himself, since he stabs most of his "allies" in the back.

Like Morley. I would not doubt JT told him nothing of this vendetta against Shurtleff. He does that to people.

  137. Sai says:

Yes because we know the valdity of someone’s political career can be judged on whether or not they agree with you on one single point. Especially when that single point is a conspiracy theory

I guess he thought Utah was the only state would actually accept him but even they can’t put up with his shit, so now he’s going crazy again.

And you know, if its on Youtube, chances are no one, anywhere, considers it porn. I mean I can’t think of a single person who could possibly be aroused by the strip scenes in GTA 4. And they don’t even serve any purpose! At least in Vice City if you sat through one of those painfully boring stripper scenes you’d then get the option to buy the strip club.

And lastly: Aww, how cute. He still thinks he’s a lawyer.

I’m wondering what happened with his "job" over at Human Events. I though he would get along like a charm but I think he posted 3 editorials before disappearing.

  139. Canary Wundaboy says:

Urm….Jack? Yeah hi, this threat to "proceed", urm…well there’s a small issue with that. You kind of….you have to be a real lawyer to do that. You know, one with a license to practice law within that jurisdiction? And a little while ago this thing happened….

    …..you douchebag.

There’s that saying "Burning the candle at both ends" Jack burns bridges at both ends, then blames others when the flames reach him.

  141. JustChris says:

AHAHAHA. Only Jack Thompson can look like such a douchebag while attempting to look selfless and care about the children. But if you’re saving the world I guess it must be okay to let some collateral damage slip by, even if that damage includes burning your own bridges…

  142. BearDogg-X says:

"Proceed" with what, exactly? Thompson(aka "Billy Bitchcakes") has no case against the Utah attorney general, especially he is not and never was a resident of Utah. Besides that, GTAIV is not "pornographic" as defined by the Miller test.

Although Thompson can potentially be tried under this Utah law, if the Utah attorney general chose to:

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Hornets, Jack Thompson can geaux chase a chupacabra.

That’s a good one. I wouldn’t like Hardball, either, if the host, figuratively, knocked out all my teeth.

  144. Firebird says:

    *Reads Newspaper*

    *Looks up, stares blankly*

    *Goes back to newspaper*

    Move along…

    ____________

Call me back when he’s a "threat" again…

  145. JDKJ says:

    "I love to play hardball . . . ." — Jack Thompson

Can someone tell me which part of playing "hardball" Jack Thompson loves? The part where the hard ball hits in the mouth and knocks out all his teeth? Or the part where the hard ball hits him in the nuts and leaves him writhing in pain on the playfield? ‘Cause I’ve seen Jack-O play "hardball" many times and his getting hit hard with the ball in either the mouth or the nuts is pretty much all I ever see happen.

  146. Keddren says:

Did you just try to attribute rational thought to Jack Thompson?

Have you not been paying attention?

  147. Godkarmachine says:

Does Jack Thompson ever actually stop and give his actions any thought? It seems like any time something doesn’t go in his favor, he makes a big deal about it, launches threats in every direction, and only proceeds to make himself look worse.

    – Stand back! I have an opinion, and I’m not afraid to use it.

  148. Bennett Beeny says:

Thompson is just a blow-hard.  He’s unlikely to be arrested because police don’t usually place people who are just plain nutty in jail.  He’s more likely to end up in some loony bin that takes outpatients, or he’ll die of a stress-related heart attack.  *EZK: SNIP Please leave his family out of this.*

  149. Vake Xeacons says:

Geez, this is a bit much, even for Thompson (not that he hasn’t done so in the past). He’s going down haaaaaard. I can’t wait to see what the AG has to say back to this smut.

  150. Zerodash says:

Oh boy, another one of his lie-filled empty threats and deadlines.  It’s getting even sadder that we can now utterly count on this behavior out of him every single time.

My prediction that Jack will be arrested before 2010 still stands.

  151. Zephyrus says:

I’m fairly certain anyone involved with that man are keeping stringent records of his harassment in case of such an even occuring, just like they did during his disbarrment trial when all his lovely harassment tricks surfaced and slapped him in the face

  152. DarkSaber says:

WOnder what the Supreme Court would make of this when it comes time to throw out, I mean, review his appeal.

As always, Jack’s antics bring laughter to me!

    ——————————————————————————

  154. DavCube says:

    More deadlines! YAY!

Doesn’t he realise that he doesn’t hold the power to really threaten like that anymore?

  155. sirdarkat says:

If you don’t do what I want I will bring liti … ah crap I can’t do that anymore umm … I know I will have my lawyer friends wait I don’t really have any of those either … I know I will make empty threats which could be taken as threating a public offical which is a big no no.
