Radio Alert: Game-Bashing Eagle Forum Schedules Game-Bashing July 4th Guest

Last week, GamePolitics broke the news that the ultra-conservative Eagle Forum had filed a "friend of the court" brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Calfornia’s bid to have its 2005 violent video game law reviewed by the justices.

The rambling brief sought to link video games with everything from school shootings to poor grades to sudden death.

The group, founded by conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly, wades back into gamer space tomorrow when video game critic Arthur Ally appears as a guest on Eagle Forum Live, a radio show hosted by Schlafly.

Ally bills himself as a morally-responsible fund manager. In December his Timothy Plan investment fund issued a list of 30 "most offensive" video games, including the likes of World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online and Halo 3.

Ally also rather famously criticized Army of Two for "somewhat homo-erotic undertones between the two main characters."

Ironically, the conversation between this pair of would-be censors airs at 11:00 a.m. Central Time on Independence Day.

Wow, so not only is the Eagle Forum incredibly conservative they also agree with and have people on their radio show  who think that domestic abuse centers "are usually corrupt feminist enterprises that actually endanger women." (see their may 30th show http://www.eagleforum.org/radio/2009/may09/may2009.html )

Jacko really has great taste in people to hang out with.  First he defends the family of a man accused of abusing his own son http://popularculturegaming.com/?p=208 now he’s hanging out with people who think that places that try to help victems of domestic abuse are bad.

    Is a pattern forming here?

The audio of the show is on their website.  Listening to these people is like listening to something from the 1950s. The language they use is so archaic that it is shocking to hear that there are people who still talk that way.  The guy calls kids "junior" the entire time. He’s talking about "the games are interactive now!" and of course he pronounced Mario as "Marry-o."

I agree regarding organizations and individuals that actively attempt to subvert the US Constitution and it’s Amendments for the purpose of creating a Theological Dictatorship in the US.  The Eagle Foru, Vets for (Anti-) Freedom, the Traitor John Bruce "Jack" Thompson, and many others actively attempt to forcibly deny citizens their Constitutional Rights by falsely claiming a Right to file a grievance (if one isn’t forced or required to participate, how can one have a grievance?) and other dishonorable, unethical, and immoral acts.  These ARE traitors to the US, the US Constitution, and the citizens of the US.

But individuals and organizations who merely specialize and offer opinions, even ones based on false information, lies, dand deceit, but allow others to either accept or refuse to accept those opinions or participate in their groups are not really traitors to the US, the US Constitution, or the citizens of the US.  They are not honorable, ethical, or moral if they use lies, deceit, fraud, and/or misinformation.  But they are not denying other citizens their Rights.

Decades ago, an infamous senator tried to label those who held beliefs different from his own as traitors.  Misuse of his authority, fearmongering, intimidation, lies, deceit, and fraud were his weapons.  But his victims only held differing beliefs.  They did not attempt to force anyone to follow their beliefs or to even listen to their beliefs.  The senator, himself, was far more a traitor to the US, the US Constitution, and the citizens of the US.  If anyone should have been charged with treason, it should have been him.  Not because of his beliefs, but because of his actions to deprive other citizens of THEIR Rights.  The Timothy Plan folks don’t like something, so they don’t offer those companies up for investing in.  And they openly state their beliefs.  And their customers are free to follow or not follow their recommendations.  They are liars and deceivers, but in this respect, they are not traitors.  Advocation of censorship and the attempt to deprive others of their Rights may be grounds for treason as such is an attempt to subvert the US Constitution.  But not merely their beliefs.

Why is it that whenever someone declares themselves ‘morally responsible’ it’s really a thinly veiled excuse to push their belief systems onto other people? THey can raise their kids and live their lives however they want, and I won’t judge them, but I expect the same courtesy to be extended to me in return.

LOL at the homo-erotic undertones for Army of Two. Did you know that ancient Roman soldiers would sometimes turn towards intercourse between males in their own armies when they are in active duty and miles away from any villages? Hence why rape sometimes occurs when villages get invaded.

It’ll be a sad day when treason is defined as "spreading opinions a lot of people find despicable" or "generally being considered a piece of trash".

A long time ago Jack was actually court ordered to be given a mental test of some kind and he came back with ‘sane’. I guess paranoia, persecution complexes and delusions of grandeur aren’t enough to get someone declared insane, either that or Jack was able to hide them.

Side note to Thompson. Nobody cares about GTA4 anymore. Not to mention, why are you still posting on Gamepolitics? Its been almost a year now, aren’t you getting tired of this? I think you could use a vacation Thompson, go see the world, drop the act and enjoy life.

Y’Know, The people @ the Eagle Forum are getting back into the video game subject again becuase they are hopping mad that not enough people came together to overturn the Governor’s veto. They had all the support to get it all the way to the govornor, but not enough to overturn his decision.

And Jack, I like GTA 3, Vice City, San Andereas, GTA Advance, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories (well, the GTA 3x series)) Better than GTA4. Not every gamer thinks the world of that game like you say we do.

Only in very limited contexts. If it constitutes harrassment, intimidation, a threat, or any other kind of non-protected speech, it’s illegal, but not because of being hate speech in-and-of-itself. It might elevate it to a hate crime in some cases, but it’s not hate that makes the speech illegal to begin with.

    Bennett Beeny says:

Army of Turd-burglars is offensive, but only because such an obviously homo-erotic game was made by folks who must have thought they were making it ultra-manly.  It’s comical because most of its die-hard fans also think it’s ultra-manly and not at all gay.  Not sure how they rationalize the ‘two guys on one parachute’ issue, but hey.

But at least they finally made a game that the GLBT community can wholeheartedly embrace.  And THAT’S probably why the Eagle Forum consider it offensive.

Now now. I hate to correct you, but we pagans are the "Satanic" worshippers. 😛 Obviously, we use our EEEVIIIL MAAAGIIIIC OOOooo! to control you to play games where we have secretly inserted messages of the Anti-Christ; kind of like when we used rock music by having the messages reversed in the songs. Except video games are our new medium.

Then we hold these expos to mass-control you all, and select a few from the crowd to bring into the back and sacrifice you in some ritualistic orgy (think "Bible Black", if you know what that is) to please our dark master and gain some of his power.

And the Eagle Forum, and the Third Wave of the Holy Spirit movement (especially C. Peter Wagner (look him up if you must; he’s kind of the head behind the movement) are the only ones who can stop us. Mr. Wagnar with his prayer wars atop of Mt. Everest (Not making this up:http://www.talk2action.org/story/2008/12/28/13255/764) and the Eagle Forum to support them. They are out to expose us, oh noes!

Actually, I have no idea if the Eagle Forum has affiliation to this movement. I’d assume so, however, since it seems right up their alley.

True, but that’s not enough of a reason to call it "offensive" and get it banned on that cause.
