U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

August 28, 2009

The debate over graphic Japanese sex games such as the disgusting and controversial RapeLay continues with word that the United Nations is stepping in.

At a meeting earlier this month, the U.N.'s Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women called for a ban on explicit video games and anime. As reported by Anime News Network, the committee urged Japan to ban "the sale of video games or cartoons involving rape and sexual violence against women which normalize and promote sexual violence against women and girls."

The committee also expressed concern "at the normalization of sexual violence in the State party as reflected by the prevalence of pornographic video games and cartoons featuring rape, gang rape, stalking and the sexual molestation of woman and girls."

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I second that. I see nothing "sick" about it for one very solid reason: it's fiction. Fake. Not real. Fantasy. Imagination. Artificial. Pretend. Not existing on a physical level. Need I really go on? It's essentially a, uh, an interactive choose-your-own-ending story.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Please, perhaps the repetition will help worm the obvious truth into their heads better.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The US never banned the game. The US can't ban the game. There are groups in the US that want it banned. Amazon banned it from their online store. But the US did not ban it.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Actually I'm pretty sure Japan didn't ban the game either. It was simply a large group of retailers or distributers that agreed to not sell the game or similar games.

Anime haters saying they will support UN ban on Erotic games and claiming manga and anime are just as evil as those games in 3...2...1.

I saw this on Kotaku and ANN.  This really upset me a lot, all over the Rapelay thing.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I am an anime hater. I support the ban, not because i think it's evil because I think it's retarded.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Oh good, because Jack Thompson say he hates anime also.  Does that mean you'll forgive him for any attack on video game and you'll decide to hate video game because JT said he hates anime.

So is Halo is evil because it became a anime also.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Why are you bringing him up?  Jack had zero to do with his post.  And he just said he doesn't think anime is evil.

Personally, based on his wide mouth comment, he's just using a little tongue in cheek humor and some of you are rising to the bait.

Actually, JT has attack Japan in the past and in another GP article.  I believe Jack bash anime also.

http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/08/18/american-psychological-assn-games-are-powerful-learning-tools

He was trolling around and he said and quote: "Not to mention the japanese are a shameful group of rascist determined to poison the minds of are american youth through video games and their cheap shitty cartoons called "anime".

That gives me enough evidence to make a JT a anime haters.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Only that wasn't the Metropolitian Moron of Miami, but some assclown troll/the worst possible result of an orgasm calling himself "Jack Thompson Follower" who got himself banned from here.

I think that was JT.  He was using Jack Thompson follower to make it look like JT had people following him.  I can't think of an adult beside JT who act childish.

Remember JT attack Japan, if he attack anime I'm not suprised if he did that.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I already knew about the Metropolitian Moron of Miami trying to compare Sony's release of the PS2 to Pearl Harbor. I still say he owes an apology to everyone that survived the attack.

The fact is that Thompson has crashed and burned to the point where he has done a big pile of nothing since 1990 and now all new lawyers in Florida now have to promise not to "Jack Thompson" their law licenses, it doesn't really give him the right to rain on anyone's parade anymore.

The bottom line is that any attempt will fail and only serve to make anime/manga more popular than it is now. Look at Tipper Gore's lame attempt to attack the music industry in the early-mid 80's(some Metal icons say that the Parental Advisory stickers became the best thing to ever happen to Heavy Metal music). Look at the Michigan housewife that whined over the TV show Married with Children in the late 80's(the Fox network became bigger overnight, and coupled with The Simpsons, Fox eventually was able to become the top-rated network).

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

No i do recall that GP even made a rule against faking being JT for the very reason that on a few occasions someone does do shit like that... they do it either to mock him, or just to be trolls... adults can indeed be very childish

(should ban you because I think that you're retarded...)

That's the spirit!!!

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Well, I certainly found something far worse than hentai: people who think so-and-so should be banned because they think it's retarded.

If people want to enjoy something, it's their business, and you have no right to interfere with it.

For instance, I dislike sports games. But do I think sports games should be banned, and that everyone who plays them should die in a fire? No and no.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

not true at all. What if people enjoy banging on my door? Or urinating in public? Or Soulja Boy?

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The only criminal offense out of what you listed was urinating in public.

Other than that, there's still a huge difference between banning something just because you don't like it.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I was mentioning things that people may enjoy but is not confined to "their" business.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

And anime is not one of them. Your comparison is faulty. How is someone watching anime in their home or whatever injecting into your life in any way? Oh right. It's not.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

You're comparison is faulty. Anime isn't confined to peoples homes. It makes its way into current culture and I am forced to interact with it.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Big fucking deal. Neither are video games, rap music, WWE/TNA wrestling, etc. Pop culture changes with the times and is based on what's popular at the time. Deal with it, jabroni.

In fact, your complaining and whining about it will just make it more popular than it is now.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I'm not complaining or whining. I stated a fact and I am now backing up that fact. Did you really call me a jabroni. Did this turn into promo?

I WILL TELL YOU NOW THAT JUST LIKE AMERICA DROPPED BOMBS ON

There is a difference between dealing with something and liking it.
I deal with anime by voicing my disdain for it.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

No, but you just did turn it into a promo.

There's a huge difference between stating a fact and stating an opinion.

"Wah, I don't like anime because the characters have big mouths and it's being ingrained into our culture and I have to interact with it."

Child, please. It's still a pathetic, weak excuse/reason to not like something.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The fact is that I don't like anime because they have big mouths. That is a fact. Listen up, infant. It would be really easy to ask why you like anime and then call that weak or say that you can find those exact things in other media but I don't even care why you like it enough to do that.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

As a staunch supporter of the First Amendment. I only care because you childishly suggested and would support a blatantly unconstitutional ban on anime because of your childish opinion that it's "retarded".

I could care less what you think what you think, but I just wanted to point out the asininity of your opinion.

Whatever.

anime is still retarded

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I dont think I count as a troll because I legitimatly believe everything I have said.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The constitution was written long before the advent of anime. They couldn't have possibility of retarded pro-rape wide mouth bobble heads flying thru space. I'm sure if they did they would have put something in there to dissuade it.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The constitution was also written long before movies, television, and video games were made also, so what exactly is your point if you even have one?

The First Amendment is crystal clear: "Congress shall pass no law abridging the freedom of speech."

You need absolute proof that the speech is dangerous since you're directly contradicting a Constitutional amendment. Nobody's been able to provide proof of any kind, whether it was movies, television, video games, or even anime.

And no, the Founding Fathers wouldn't have. Grow up and get a life, worthless turd.

My point is crystal clear anime is so retarded that the founding fathers wouldn't have even wanted it in their country

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Then prove it since your "point" is retarded, just like you, in my opinion.

Prove that my point is that anime is retarded? That's easy. I just said my point is that anime is retarded.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Technically I think banging on someone's door, while not a crime in and of itself, could be considered harrassment under certain circumstances.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I think it'd be kinda cool if they DIAF, because without that genre of video games more time would be spent on good video games...

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Can you provide a valid point as to why you hate anime,as far as I'm concerned I've seen more content in any more anime shows than I've seen in any American animation and tv dramas.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

They have mouths that open way too wide.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Saying that their mouths open way too wide just shows that your knowledge of anime only goes as far as Pokemon and other mainstream anime kids shows.  That's like saying you don't like Western cartoons because Dragon Tales is lame.

If you want to see real anime, watch Haibane Renmei or Elfen Lied.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

Elfen Lied? That's really the example you'll use in the defense of anime? Hey, I liked it and all, but if I showed that to friends to get them interested in anime, they'd think I'm some kind of sick freak and seek help for me.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

I'm sure there are one or two nice guys in the taliban. I won't be supporting their organization either.

not even close. I would totally eat an apple. I wouldn't eat anime, the taliban, or uranium.

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

The comparison went way over your head, then. I'm not going to call you a brain-dead idiot, but you seem very, very intent on proving me wrong.

Apples = anime, Uranium = Taliban

It doesn't matter if there are "nice guys" in the Taliban, they're going to lumped in with the rest when they get taken down. Difference being that anime has never attacked America.

I'd rather watch an anime over 90% of the horseshit that passes for American TV.

No I am saying that while apples and uranium are very different they have things in common.

They have names they have mass they can be thrown too much of both is unhealhty while the right amount can be very helpful

Re: U.N. Steps Into RapeLay Controversy, Urges Ban

So? That's one of the dumbest and weakest arguments I've ever heard/read aside from anything the Metropolitian Moron of Miami posted or filed in court.
