A set-top box-based home videogame system in the works from TransGaming, has landed seed money from Intel Capital, the investment arm of the chip manufacturer.
GameTree.tv is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2010. Units are powered by Intel’s new Atom CE4100 processors (codenamed Sodaville), which promise to run “rich media applications such as 3-D graphics.”
One definite plus for the system is the ability to run Flash-based games. The developer also notes that users don’t always want or need a keyboard and mouse in the living room, so part of what they are building includes the integration of gaming controllers.
PCMag recently had some hands on time with the device, trying out Peggle and World of Goo.
Certainly this service/device is aimed mostly at casual gamers. Hardcore types out there, is this something you would consider checking out?

Re: Intel Invests in On-Demand Gaming Firm
An On Demand gaming service technically exists already. If you been to an hotel you know what I am talking about. Basically all it is, is video games programmed in that you have to pay for to use for a day.
Any service like this that you support is not worth being into and I think companies that invest into this are nuts. This is no like MMO’s where you play with other people this is like a service that charges you per day to play single player games like Super Mario or Final Fantasy and then the next day you can’t play.
Only type of setting this service should be in, is Arcades since technically it can rejuvenate that scene which has fallen since technically you need an advanced expensive machine to support this generations games.
The though of any home console charging you per day to buy games or splitting games into chapters only pisses me off as a consumer. The idea of stopping to sell Fable 2 and sell it online only and split it into chapters is a waste.

Re: Intel Invests in On-Demand Gaming Firm
So it is Eee desktop like device with a interface designed for a TV screen and a set of applications all pre-configured.
I guess the question is - How much does it cost and can it stream video from my PC. I could see something like this as a media extender for the bedroom. If it costs less than a Wii or 360. Maybe.
