The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC) is winding down voting for its annual TOADY (Toys Oppressive and Destructive to Young Children) awards.
This year’s four nominees include a Barbie Digital Nail Printer and four products related to interactive entertainment:
• AddictingGames.com – “The games at Nickelodeon’s AddictingGames.com have it all: lechery… gratuitous violence… and even animal cruelty. But it’s not the exciting content that makes Addicting Games so TOADYish; It’s Nick’s decision to promote – and link to – the site on every page of its websites for preschoolers like NickJr.com and Neopets.”
• Little Tikes Young Explorer – “The Young Explorer’s cubicle design keeps tots’ eyes glued firmly on the 19-inch flat screen monitor by eliminating pesky distractions, like the outside world.”
• HALO United Nations Space Command Turret (pictured) - You already own the most popular videogame franchise of all time, with hundreds of millions of dollars in sales. Want to increase profits even more? Market your game to young children!”
• EyeClops Mini Projector – “Is there any greater threat to screen time than summer? All those picnics, trips to the beach, and playing outside until the sun goes down. Voting runs through May 10. Those who vote will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of the four most boring toys ever created.

If they want people to take them seriously, they really should try writing with a certain level of professionalism.
Also, was it just me or did anyone else watch a scary movie at night while they were at summer camp?

let's be honest. the Little Tikes Young Explorer is pretty much just setting children up for the drudgery that is cubicle life. it's not so much an advertisement toy as a way to prepare them for their soul-crushing job when they're adults.

I just hate everything about this group. Not only they cause unnecessary controversy, but they care if children see lots of commercials? There are so many other important problems in the world.
What other problems? I dont know, maybe gang activity, violent behaviour, unstable families, major faults in foster system, extreme bulling, suicides, extreme depression, substance abuse, sexual abuse, learning disabilities, wide variety of deceases and disabilities, and much more.
Really... Advertisement towards children is of equal concern?

Surely the only market for the Halo sequels is young kids. Surely no adult plays those lame assed games. The Halo turret should probably win, but for lameness, not for being marketed towards kids.

Because children have easy access to safe unsupervised outside play. Oh wait, pedophiles are everywhere and only organized leagues are safe....
Bit by bit take away the alternatives and of course kids are going to spend more time in front of the big screen. The problem with groups like this is they have an idealized version of their own childhood and assume that today's kids have access to the same resources....

Nice, I just did a search on their website and it seems the functionality isn't there because someone forgot to install Frontpage file extensions on the server (who still uses FP anyway?). I guess they didn't want to become too familiar with teh evil technology.

I love these types of people claim that toys and videogames destroy children and ruin their lives. And yet, the "Nintendo Generation" is all grown up and doing just fine- and we had GIJoe, Transformers, 1980's action films, and all that. Oh, and lets not forget the D&D moral panic that was supposed to enslave an entire generation to the Devil.

Well,I understand that they have a grudge against the Halo toy, it's just like so many action figures designed for kids but coming from teen (or more)-rated movies. Back in time, I even remember Mortal Kombat and Duke Nukem action figures.

If I were the oppressive type I would vote for the Halo thing for being two of the most annoying things I can think of.
1) Being Halo branded. That game is really driving me nuts.
2) A Megablox product. Those bricks are the worst quality imaginable. The only thing that can keep them together is super glue.
But since I am not the oppressive type, I will refrain from voting.

gotta say, of all of the kits i got though, that turret is the LEAST appealing one.
i want the big guns :p
i don't even assemble the little ones (my GF does for me though... course she's more a Halo nut than i, so she also has more..)
