Microsoft’s motion control technology for the Xbox 360, previously known by the codename Project Natal, will be officially marketed under the name Kinect.
The news was leaked by USA Today ahead of a pre-E3 event held by Microsoft last night. The article also detailed a range of games that are in development to leverage Kinect technology, including a Rare-developed sports game entitled Kinect Sports. Kinect could be available as early as this November.
Meanwhile, MCVUK noticed a now-removed ad on an Italian gaming website which showed what appeared to be a revamped Xbox 360, featuring built in wi-fi capabilities and a 250GB harddrive. The UK publication also presented rumors about two SKUs for Kinect, with the more expensive of the two priced at around $189.
We’ll see if these rumors are true later today when Microsoft holds its official E3 presser.
Will you buy Kinect? Do you like the name? BeatWeek theorizes that the similarity between the Kinect name and the name of Amazon’s Kindle could spark legal action, though that may be a stretch.

Re: Project Natal = Kinect
So much fail. They couldn't even come up with an original name. Oh wait, Natal.........
I know Natal is some South American city, but at least it's not just a different spelling of a common household word.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
It's not a different spelling, it's what we english speakers call a portmanteau word. Connect + kinetic = Kinect.
English, it's a wonderful language really, you should learn it.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
Unfortunately, it's not a combination of the two words. It really is just a re-spelling of "Connect". I have no idea where you're getting "Kinetic" from, but if you pronounce "Kinect", what you're saying is "Connect". Exact same pronunciation.
You're giving it too much credit.
PS: I know my peasant English sounds like mumbo jumbo to you, your majesty. So maybe you should come down off your high horse before you read my post.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
I'm going to have to assume you're trolling me, no-one is that stupid.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
Alright, break it up. Thesillyoldbear is correct that "Kinect" a portmanteau, Kabyk is correct that it's pronounced the same way as "connect". In fact, I thought of "K'nex" when I first heard of this.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
I always wondered where the Natal name came from.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
Lost interest in this, but I'll give MS credit for not making Kinect a wii remote wanna be.

Re: Project Natal = Kinect
If you guys want to be a straight game news site you just have to say so.
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
Agreed. What does this relate to politics?
It is Palin all over again (except it was not related to gaming)
Re: Project Natal = Kinect
Just about to jump on it myself. Seems like GP is padding itself out with random articles lately rather than anything that actually has ANYTHING to do with politics just to cover for potentially slow news days. I remember GP would go more than a day without a single post, but those post were compelling and elicited conversations of which would regularly be over 200 comments long PER POST. Not so much anymore. Seriously, can we go back to the old ways? I liked them better :/
