IGN Entertainment is proud of its matching donation to New York-based indie video game arcade Babycastles. IGN matched the donations made by the community to help raise a total of around $13,000 in support of the indie arcade’s upcoming games exhibition. The goal was $6,000. IGN Entertainment provided nearly $3,800 of the total raised by matching community donations made during the fundraiser.
Babycastles is a collaboration between the arcade and Showpaper, a New York-based bi-weekly print publication that promotes all-ages and DIY music shows in the area. Showpaper will help in music production and curate rotating exhibitions of artwork alongside each arcade lineup running from October 8 – December 29, 2010. Thanks to the cash raised by the community, the Manhattan Babycastles location will offer free admission during the day (offering an art gallery for indie games) and at night (offering lectures, performances, workshops and game release parties).
IGN Entertainment is also helping independent game developers through its Indie Open House project, which includes free residency and dedicated office space inside IGN’s offices in San Francisco. The deadline for application is 11:59 pm on October 10, 2010. Full details at www.ign.com/indieopenhouse.
