Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

February 22, 2011 -

SCOTUS Blog's THIS WEEK AT THE COURT says that the court will issue at least one opinion this week (on Tuesday), while a note on Greta Van Susteren's Gretawire blog claims that court watchers should keep an eye out for opinions on a number of cases including Schwarzenegger v. Entertainment Merchants. The note comes from Lee Ross, who covers the Supreme Court for FOX News.

The note from Ross can be found below:

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

I heard the Court will be issuing opinions both today and tomorrow. Either way, it still seems a bit early for this case-we'll probably get a decision on Snyder before we get EMA.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

Unless SCOTUS decides to release both the Snyder and EMA decisions and opinions at the same time.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Hornets, Jack Thompson can geaux chase a chupacabra. Hell will stay frozen over for quite a while since the Saints won the Super Bowl.

Geaux Saints, Geaux Tigers, Geaux Pelicans. Solidarity for the Saints = No retreat, no surrender. 2013 = Saints' revenge on the NFL. Even through the darkest days, this fire burns always.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

That is possible.  they'll probably be close in timeline at any rate, as there is *some* (but of course not perfect) overlap in the issues in the 2 cases.  and of course they were argued only a few weeks apart as I recollect.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

About a month apart. Snyder v. Phelps was one of the first cases they heard oral arguments this term, and Schwarzenegger v. EMA was in the first week of November.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

being ignorant in the legal system, this opinion seems to be an official statement (rather than just, you know, an off hand opinion).

Is this just a little preview in how the discussion is going, or is this the final word of the court?

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

My understanding, which when it comes to the American legal system is in no way complete, is that this is the final word of the court.  Saying it's the court's "decision" may be a bit more clear than saying it's their "opinion".  Though I believe opinion is the technically correct word.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

So I just watched the SCOTUSblog and I guess Shwarzennegar v. EMA wasn't decided today.  Is that correct?

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

I checked The supreme court website myself, They haven't decided it yet

America has just became its own version of the Jerry Springer Show after a bizarre moment in Florida involving a carnival worker.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

They have issued a couple of opinions today, but none of them were listed here. Keep your fingers crossed...

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

This could be it, guys!

I'm going to be frequently checking this site for updates all day.............

I can't wait.  If we win, it will be hillarious to watch those idiots at fauxNews be forced to write a piece about how "their side" lost!  lol

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

More likely they'll just never mention it ever again.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

I agree But like beardoggX said, given that the court found that it's vague and that it may offend the 1st amendant rights of adults, I doubt it will pass constitutional Muster

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

What did they say about the first amendment rights of adults again? Its been a while since I read it. I know it would mean stores could stop selling these games to anyone of any age but I don't think they talked about that.

Re: Report: SCOTUS To Issue One Opinion This Week

That is the slippery slope argument. Because of the vagueness of the "graphic violence" section, just about any game could potentially fail the test and be regulated, but noone will know for sure until someone complains. This would eventually result in game stores "playing it safe" and refusing to stock any game that they feel could result in a fine for a mistake.

"This would eventually result in game stores "playing it safe" and refusing to stock any game that they feel could result in a fine for a mistake."

To add to that, it could also result in publishers "playing it safe" by not funding such projects and developers "playing it safe" by not creating them.

Matthew WilsonI agree, but to me given other known alternatives google seems to the the best option.07/24/2014 - 6:30pm
Andrew EisenTo be clear, I have no problem with Google buying it, I'm just concerned it will make a slew of objectively, quantifiably bad changes to Twitch just as it's done with YouTube over the years.07/24/2014 - 6:28pm
Matthew WilsonI doubt yahoo has the resources to pull it off, and I not just talking about money.07/24/2014 - 6:15pm
SleakerI wouldn't have minded a Yahoo purchase, probably would have been a better deal than Tumblr seeing as they paid the same for it...07/24/2014 - 6:13pm
MaskedPixelanteIt's the golden age of Hitbox, I guess.07/24/2014 - 6:08pm
Matthew Wilsonagain twitch was going to get bought. It was just who was going to buy it . Twitch was not even being able to handle the demand, so hey needed a company with allot of infrastructure to help them. I can understand why you would not want Google to buy it .07/24/2014 - 5:49pm
Andrew Eisen"Google is better than MS or Amazon" Wow. Google, as I mentioned earlier, progressively makes almost everything worse and yet there are still two lesser options. Again, wow!07/24/2014 - 5:43pm
Andrew EisenI don't know. MS, in my experience, is about 50/50 on its products. It's either fine or it's unusable crap. Amazon, well... I've never had a problem buying anything from them but I don't use any of their products or services so I couldn't really say.07/24/2014 - 5:42pm
Matthew WilsonGoogle is better than MS or Amazon.07/24/2014 - 5:33pm
Sleaker@AE - I've never seen youtube as a great portal to interact with people from a comment perspective. like ever. The whole interface doesn't really promote that.07/24/2014 - 5:28pm
Andrew EisenNor I. From a content producer's perspective, almost every change Google implements makes the service more cumbersome to use. It's why I set up a Facebook fan page in the first place; it was becoming too difficult to connect with my viewers on YouTube.07/24/2014 - 4:50pm
Sleakerwonder if anyone is going to try and compete with google, I'm not a huge fan of the way they manage their video services.07/24/2014 - 4:41pm
Andrew EisenIt happened. Google bought Twitch. http://venturebeat.com/2014/07/24/googles-1b-purchase-of-twitch-confirmed-joins-youtube-for-new-video-empire/07/24/2014 - 4:28pm
MaskedPixelanteI hope Nintendo actually follows through with the DS Virtual Console, that sounds like it could be cool.07/24/2014 - 2:15pm
james_fudgePeople don't deny it persay, they bristle at the idea that it's a "problem" that nneds to be "fixed."07/24/2014 - 2:15pm
Papa MidnightRacism and Misogny are heavily prevalent in the gaming and online arena. Getting people to actually admit that, however...07/24/2014 - 11:42am
Papa MidnightThat very thing is somthing that anyone who has been subjected to racial-based targeting online could actually state that they've experienced.07/24/2014 - 11:41am
Papa MidnightPerfect example: "I have yet to talk to a man who has had to call a police officer due to a stalker, only to be told nothing can be done until they are physically assaulted."07/24/2014 - 11:40am
Papa MidnightNot that said communities are mutually exclusive. Even the very first comment on that last article equates women in the gaming industry with being the n-word. Despicable, aetestable, and (sadly enough) this is not an uncommon presence in either community.07/24/2014 - 11:35am
