Good Old Games will serve as the only DRM-free distributor of the "Digital Premium Edition" of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. This makes sense, as developer CD Projekt RED is a sister company under CD Projekt. The GOG-exclusive version offers all the contents of the "Digital Premium Edition" is a DRM-free package. Other versions of the special release will contain DRM.
"DRM is not an effective way to combat piracy," said Managing Director Guillaume Rambourg. "Our main concern has always been the user’s experience with the titles they purchase, and DRM effects that experience in a negative way, which is why we’ve been absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to distribute CD Projekt RED’s incredible RPG. We’re also pleased that we’ve been able to stick to our guns with The Witcher 2 and release it DRM free to all of our customers around the world."
The Witcher 2 is set for a mid-May release on PC.

Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
Er, haven't we known this since last November?
Anyway. Put in my preorder two weeks ago; looking forward to it. Plus I never got around to playing Gothic 2, so that's what I'm going to get as my preorder bonus.
Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
That's cool of the. However with 95 games and counting (although if you count episodic seasons like Sam and Max as all one game less) i think i'll stick to Steam.
Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
It's kind of funny, I was wondering when someone would use "Now with no DRM!" as a marketing idea. It's brilliant. Just like when dairy producers realized that they could sell better by not using BST and labeling their products with it.

Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
GOG/CDProjekt has actually been trumpeting "NO DRM!" for years now...not always accurately. They initially said the original Witcher was DRM-free, but it had actually Tages or somesuch on it. They DID eventually remove it, but not until the last patch release.
Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
Off topic, but if you're referring to Bovine Somatotropin?
BST isn't active in humans, and is digested and broken apart for it's base amino acids (in other words doing about as much damage as any other ingested amino acids) in the stomach. Still, i bet they laugh all the way to the bank with the cash they probably make from the higher price.

Animal Science major dude, totally with you. :D
Except since all of them got on the bandwagon, and the marketed it so well that people have the perception that it's bad, they now have effectively blackballed its use, and no longer gain an advantage either from use or non-use.
Still, I agree that the short term gains were probably hilarious.

Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
The real question is why do the other versions have DRM?
I am guessing the game is being sold on Steam and thus uses the Steam DRM. Otehr DD serves probably require it to use their DRM as well. That all sucks.
At least there is a place to buy it for those who want no DRM.

Re: GOG Gets The Witcher 2 DRM-Free Exclusive
Didn't they come out and say first that the game would be DRM-free? And then didn't they come out and say the downloaded version would be, but the retail boxed copies were still up in the air?
This went from being a bright and shiny example of where PC titles could go in the future to a sad disappointment. Not to say that the game won't be awesome, just don't want to deal with worrying about install limits and reactivating my game if i replace hardware or upgrade.
Side note, being as I pre-ordered via Impulse, just looked it up in their store at www.impulsedriven.com/witcher2 and it lists DRM as SecuROM. Oh, joy.
Tell me when can I buy a copy of a game and actually own it again.
