UK Culture Minister Would Like a Game Room for Parliament

September 23, 2011 -

UK Culture Minister Ed Vaizey wanted to have a game console in his office, but unnamed members of Parliament objected. Now he's talking about Parliament setting up a game room in a new interview with Edge.

"I asked if I could put a games console in my room in the department," Vaizey told Edge. "The powers that be were against it, because people coming for meetings would assume that I was spending every spare minute playing games!

Perhaps I will be more firm and say I want a games console in my office to put on display and show the best of British gaming - I would happily do that! And I think that's a very good point: people don't think twice about the fact that every MP has a TV in their room. As for setting up a gaming room, why shouldn't we?"

"If the industry wanted to start talks along those lines with the Commons Society, I would certainly support them," he added.

Sounds like a grand idea to me. Where's Ian Livingstone when you need him? Vaizey also revealed that his favorite game at the moment is Plants vs. Zombies on iPhone, though he calls Defender one of his all-time favorites. Clearly the man has good taste.

MechaCrashAnd so the GGer storms off in a huff after some minor insults, never once noticing the irony that any woman who does the same despite receiving far worse is called a coward who's afraid of debate.11/24/2014 - 3:04pm
Wonderkarpthanks again for proving my point, mecha. I'll be over here at the big kids table.11/24/2014 - 3:01pm

WonderkarpHave you seen Rebels, Andrew? Show is fantastic. And I love how it peppers in bits of the prequals, but not enough. Like "It happened, but its all in the past now"11/24/2014 - 2:51pm
WonderkarpMecha, you need to understand. Your little jabs and your insults. It's all kiddie games. You cant leave a mark on my face. So give up.11/24/2014 - 2:50pm
Andrew EisenI saw the 2D Clone Wars (the ones that were 3 to 7 minutes) and didn't care for 'em (didn't hate 'em though). Saw the 3-part premier and a few early episodes of the 3D show and thought it was bloody awful. Heard it got a lot better though.11/24/2014 - 2:49pm
WonderkarpRobocop the reboot annoys me. Carbomb? and he has that one fleshy hand with all that metal. that out of place fleshy hand.....11/24/2014 - 2:48pm
MechaCrash"White knight" is the last refuge of people angry on being called on being terrible.11/24/2014 - 2:48pm
Andrew EisenI actually like a lot about Robocop 2! Anyway, I still love the original films (thank goodness I still have 'em on VHS), I just haven't been a fan of the franchise in a long, long time.11/24/2014 - 2:47pm
WonderkarpI always felt CloneWars redeemed the Prequals by adding much necessary context. Still there's a good list of crap I'd redo. The Midiclorians test was a bs joke to explain fantasy with science11/24/2014 - 2:46pm
E. Zachary KnightI am curious to see what a Disney owned and run Lucas Films can do with the brand. It could be great (ala Pirates of the Caribbean) or Terrible (ala Pirates 3 and 4).11/24/2014 - 2:45pm
WonderkarpI'm sorry, Mecha, you want a refund? I could always pay it back too you. you look like you need some turtlewax to shine up that white knight armor.11/24/2014 - 2:44pm
Papa MidnightAndrew: Try to think of it the same way I think of Robocop -- everything after Kurtwood Smith didn't happen. When you apply similar logic to Star Wars, you'll like it again :)11/24/2014 - 2:44pm
Andrew EisenSometimes I find myself thinking, "Gee, what if the new Star Wars film is actually good?" I miss liking Star Wars. I used to be such a huge fan.11/24/2014 - 2:42pm
MechaCrashSave your false moralizing for someone who'll buy it.11/24/2014 - 2:42pm
