UK charity GamesAid is asking its members to vote for the charities that it will support for the remainder of the year, with voting open now and closing on October 21. Nine charities have been selected, with the final few receiving a minimum of around £20,000. The top recipients selected by members will be announced at the UKIE annual general meeting on Friday, November 4.
“Once again the GamesAid members have nominated a fantastic and diverse range of charities – all more than worthy of this year’s donations,” GamesAid trustee Caroline Miller told MCV. “We are proud to be associated with such fantastic causes and we encourage our membership to vote so that the partnership charities democratically reflect our industry’s wishes.”
The charities that have been selected - to be voted on by members - include Action for Kids, which supplies equipment for children with disabilities; CHIVA – an organization that supports families affected by HIV; MAPS Schools Mentoring Volunteer Centre Sutton, which provides a mentoring and peer support service for students; Jigsaw4u, who helps young people deal with divorces, deaths or serious illnesses; Lifelites, which provides educational technology for around 7,000 children in hospices; SpecialEffect, who helps disabled kids play modified video games; The Family Holiday Association, who provide seaside breaks to young caregivers and their families; The Willow Foundation who provide days out for seriously ill 16 to 40-year-old people; and Winston’s Wish – who help bereaved children cope with the loss of a parent or loved one.
