Turbine Sends Customers Warning About Recent Hack Attempt

October 18, 2011 -

Turbine Entertainment sent out an alert this morning informing subscribers of its various MMO titles that a third-party "may have attempted to access" forum accounts. While the company says that there is no indication that any accounts were modified or compromised, it is urging subscribers to change their passwords for the sake of safety and security. One of the curious things about the email is that it seems to indicate that this happened sometime before October 11. Why Turbine waited this long we do not know. From the email sent out this morning:

"Turbine is concerned that a third-party recently may have attempted to access forum account information," the email read. "There is no indication at this time that your account was modified or compromised. For your protection we suggest you change the password to a unique, hard to guess password not associated with any other sites or services. If you changed your password after October 11th, then you can disregard this message."

To change your password visit https://myaccount.turbine.com and click on “Forgot your password?" You may also click this in the game launcher (Lord of the Rings Online, D&D Online).

After following the instructions on how to recover your password, a new password will be sent to your email address on file.

If you have any trouble or have further questions, you can contact Turbine's support department at support.turbine.com.

MechaTama31I am not proud of this, but I had to select the "multiple times" option. Not for the same game, but I went through several controllers (particularly dreamcast ones. fragile, maybe?)07/09/2014 - 6:52pm
Andrew EisenI'd say breaking a handheld out of anger counts (even if it's just the hinge). Likewise, I'd say busting a keyboard or mouse counts so long as you were playing a game at the time.07/09/2014 - 12:28pm
ConsterAnd since there happened to be (without me realizing) a towel which broke the fall resulting in 'only' a damaged hinge, would that be option 2 or 4?07/09/2014 - 12:23pm
ConsterAbout the most recent poll: since the "controller" for the DS is basically part of the DS, does throwing my DS against the floor because Mario Basketball cheats count?07/09/2014 - 12:22pm

MaskedPixelanteJust a few hours, it concerned me because I checked my bank account after the purchase was made, and no money appeared to be gone. At least with CC, it changes my credit limit when I purchase something, even if it doesn't process for a few days.07/07/2014 - 2:44pm
