Kindle Fire Selling Well Despite Complaints

Amazon said today that Kindle has been selling more than a million units a week, and that Kindle Fire is the biggest product launch in the company's history. Dave Limp, vice president of Amazon Kindle, said that Kindle Fire "is the most successful product" Amazon's ever launched and that it's been Amazon's best-selling product for 11 straight weeks. He didn't give details.

Limp also said that consumers who buy a Kindle Fire have also been buying a second unit within the Kindle family. We assume this is due to the Christmas season and the low price of some Kindle devices.

Amazon's announcement followed a report in the New York Times on Monday that gave the new Kindle Fire tablet computer bad marks for usability. Among the gripes were the fact that the device had no external volume control, that web pages take a long time to load, and that the power switch goes on haphazardly.
