Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

December 21, 2011 -

A quick note to anyone buying the Humble Indie Bundle 4: if you want Steam keys you'll have to pay at least $1 USD for the bundle. According to the official blog for the promotion, some "un-humble" buyers are paying one cent for the bundle and using/reselling the Steam Keys to game the Steam Holiday promotion currently underway. More from the blog:

"Hey guys, we’ve noticed that a number of un-humble users are buying lots of Humble Indie Bundle 4’s for one penny, and then using their Steam codes to 'legitimize' automated Steam accounts in order to increase their odds of winning prizes in Valve’s current raffle promotion. This is unfair to legitimate entrants and is definitely not what we wanted to encourage with Humble Indie Bundle 4. It’s a lose-lose situation for the indie developers, charities, Valve, and Humble Bundle.

Therefore, starting immediately, new orders under a humble threshold of $1 will not contain Steam keys.

If you can’t afford a dollar but still need a Steam key and promise not to resell it or otherwise abuse it, please contact our support team with your humble appeal and we’ll purchase a new bundle for you on a case by case basis."

While some might complain that this goes against the whole "pay-what-you-want" nature of the bundle promotion, others argue that spending a penny and then trying to manipulate a rewards system is much more nefarious.

I fully support what they've done. They also went the extra mile by offering the Steam key options to those whom DID buy the bundle legitimately and not to abuse Valve's raffling system. Sadly, there will always be jerks in this world that try to get ahead using highly questionable methods.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

Someone's always got to abuse the system and mess it up for the rest of us.

Hmm I didn't think the payment processors The Humble Bundle uses would allow a payment that small, oh well. It's too bad cheapskates want to game the system for chance to get free stuff on Steam. A dollar minimum seem plenty fair given how much one gets from buying a bundle.

I am going to boost my payment, I really want them to break 2 million and every bit helps.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

Cheap, cheating bastards...

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

0.01$ COSTS them money and then somebody use it to game the Steam users? Look Humble Bundle, I'd still be behind you if it was 2.50$...

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

I felt like a cheapass when i only paid $6.50 for the fourth bundle. I paid $15 for the second bundle, and i cant remember what i paid (maybe $5) for the inversion bundle (i think that's what it was called)

Anyone paying only .01 isn't being cheap, they're being stupid. Anyone with a credit card, paypal account, or whatever else has at least a couple dollars. If you don't what the hell are you doing spending ANY money on video games? Further what are you doing spending time playing video games if you don't have even a couple dollars to your name? Go mow a lawn, shovel a driveway, or something to make a couple bucks.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

That's fucking uncool. I'm behind Humble Bundle on this. I'm just glad that the entire thing was able to breach $1 million (closing in on $2 million).

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

They still have 5 days left. I am seriously hoping they break $3million. They need to break their record.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle 4 Steam Keys Require $1 Minimum Purchase

Seems fair to me.  Having to pay a dollar instead of a penny shouldn't really be that back-breaking in terms of finances even to the cheapskates who are coughing up the bare minimum.

Craig R.Ok, my internal debate was short-lived. If Win10 is still a year out, I'm not waiting that long for an SSD, so on Win7 I will remain.09/30/2014 - 7:52pm
Matthew Wilsonits called windows 10, and I am happy to get the start menu back.09/30/2014 - 7:18pm
Jessy HartIs this stuff about Windows 10 legit? Is it actually called Windows 10 or is it just some stupid joke?09/30/2014 - 6:57pm
ZippyDSMleeSo I been trying to play Bioshock Infinite I got all the DLC,ect but do not want the extras to make your charatcer over powered from the start.....they force you to take them which is quite annoying......09/30/2014 - 6:45pm
Craig R.I need to upgrade to an SSD, still seriously debating moving to Win8.1 from 7 at the same time09/30/2014 - 6:07pm
Craig R.Win10 is probably Win8.1 with more cleanup and the Start button back.09/30/2014 - 6:06pm
Sora-ChanAhh, it's just weird seeing someone's post all of a sudden have replies from days prior before it was posted due to that.09/30/2014 - 5:49pm
MechaTama31sora: I broke the ordering intentionally, as AE's and my conversation had squeezed the text boxes down to be quite slim. I replied to an earlier post of his instead of the one I was actually replying to.09/30/2014 - 5:46pm
MechaTama31So, 9 would have been the good one, but they are skipping it to do two crap ones in a row?09/30/2014 - 5:41pm
Sora-ChanSo, judging from the poll post for #gamergate, it looks like too many thread replies breaks the ordering of posts, as seen with the recent post from Infophile.09/30/2014 - 5:31pm
Andrew EisenOr no! It wasn't Y3K compliant. Microsoft thought it best to super future proof its OS and skipped straight to 10 which is Y3K compliant!09/30/2014 - 5:01pm
Andrew EisenJust tell them it wasn't Y2K compliant.09/30/2014 - 5:00pm
Craig R.Looking forward to having to explain to coworkers down the road what ever happened to 9 *sigh*09/30/2014 - 4:57pm
Craig R.2k was crap. XP was solid, 7 is good, 8.1 is actually really good once you make it look like 7 :)09/30/2014 - 4:52pm
Sora-Chan@MP As someone who has used each version of windows since 3.1... I prefer Vista over 7 for various reasons. The only thing I give 7 over Vista is preformance. They really screwed up a bunch of things when making 7. Also, XP was a pain. 2k was better.09/30/2014 - 4:13pm
Jessy Hart@E. Zachary Knight Is that show called Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures?09/30/2014 - 3:34pm
IanCWin 8 isn't bad, it just can't decide whether to be a desktop OS or a tablet OS.09/30/2014 - 2:40pm
IanCI think its a way of getting round giving it free to Win 8 users...09/30/2014 - 2:39pm
MaskedPixelanteWindows alternates between bad and good versions. XP was good, Vista sucked, 7 was good, 8 sucked, therefore 10 will suck, QED.09/30/2014 - 2:18pm
E. Zachary KnightPerhaps they are calling it "10" because on a scale of 1-10 of how awesome it is, it is a clear 10.09/30/2014 - 2:06pm
