Chrome Extension Enables SOPA Supporter Web Identification

January 10, 2012 -

If you really want to know who supports SOPA, and you are a Chrome user, then you might want to download this Chrome extension created by Minneapolis developers Andy Baird and Tony Webster.

The extension notifies you if you are visiting a website of a company that supports the Stop Online Piracy Act legislation and uses data from Github. It also uses stories from VentureBeat and TechDirt. The extension was built last weekend, and has already been downloaded more than 2,000 downloads. It's been reviewed 22 times and currently has a rating of 4 and a half stars. Not too shabby.

“I hope it will raise awareness that while GoDaddy seems to be getting most of the attention, there are a lot of other companies techies love that are also behind SOPA,” Mr. Webster told Betabeat via Twitter. “We can speak our minds with our wallets.”
