Notch: 'No Sane Person Can Support SOPA'

January 12, 2012 -

Markus "Notch" Persson, Minecraft creator and co-founder of Mojang, added his two cents to the Stop Online Piracy argument today. When asked by PC Gamer about the bill before the House of Representatives, Notch said that a person would have to be crazy to support it.

“No sane person can be for SOPA,” he said. “I don’t know if we’re sane, but we are strongly, uncompromisingly against SOPA, and any similar laws. Sacrificing freedom of speech for the benefit of corporate profit is abominable and disgusting.”

Notch joins Riot Games, Epic Games and many others in the game industry that think SOPA and PIPA are bad ideas. Honestly his response to SOPA is not unexpected considering that he has always had somewhat of a pragmatic view of piracy.

Notch?  Please don't change.  This is the sort of thing that makes me want to buy every game you make even if they're in genres I absolutely hate.

Treat me nice, or you may end up in my next novel.

Yeah. Politicians are definitely NOT sane.

I figured Notch of all people would be against it. He knows how to treat customers, potential or paying.

Technically, Notch already declared it for Mojang in a neat official-sounding release just before Christmas:
