Sony announced that it will have apps for several popular social networks ready to be used on its newest hand-held, the PlayStation Vita. The Vita is set for a North American launch this week. All of the apps will be free to download and use. Sony will deploy a custom Twitter app called LiveTweet, an app for location-based service Foursquare, and an app for the popular phone and chat communications tool Skype will be released at some later date to be announced. Facebook and FlickR apps will also be available for free from the PlayStation Store at launch in the UK and U.S.
Many of the launch titles that will be available at retail when the system is released in the UK and U.S. will also be available as downloads on the PS Store.
The Vita is set for launch on Tuesday with a price tag of right around $249.99 for the non-3G version, and $299.99 for the 3G version.
