Valve Software's Gabe Newell Valued at $1.5 Billion, According to Forbes

March 8, 2012 -

Valve Software's Gabe Newell has a net worth of approximately $1.5 billion dollars, putting him on Forbes Magazine's list of the richest people in the world. Newell ranks 854th in the 1,226 list of worldwide billionaires. Newell did not disclose his new worth to the magazine and since Valve is a privately-held company, Forbes had to estimate the figure listed above.

Forbes' most conservative estimate puts Valve's total value at over $3 billion. They come up with the $1.5 billion valuation because Newell owns more than half of the company. Steam, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal and Team Fortress have made Newell a very wealthy man, and has allowed Valve to do whatever it wants without having to worry about the problems other companies like EA and Activision have to deal with as publicly-traded entities...
