Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Reaches $1.9 Million

InXile is inching towards its new goal of $2.1 million in funding, a milestone it set last week in hopes of bringing Obsidian Entertainment on board to help provide tools and develop Wasteland 2. The Kickstarter for the sequel to the classic Interplay post-apocalyptic RPG has hit $1,903,323 with the help of 38,742 backers – with 14 more days to go.

Last week InXile announced that it had reached an agreement with Obsidian for "potential design assistance for Wasteland 2." That agreement is contingent on hitting a milestone of $2.1 million via the Kickstarter.

Obsidian is made up of former Interplay and Black Isle Studios employees – including or Chris Avellone, who did a lot of heavy lifting on Fallout 1&2, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment. While Avellone never worked on the original Wasteland, he was inspired with it when he helped develop the Fallout series. It also doesn't hurt that Obsidian developed Fallout: New Vegas for Bethesda. Having worked on both the past and present iterations of that series, he is probably uniquely qualified to create a post apocalyptic RPG…

We will continue to follow this Kickstarter as it inches towards the latest milestone…
