Troubled UK retailer GAME announced via Twitter today that it has canceled its GAMEfest event this year.
"I'm afraid #GAMEfest won't be happening this year – but we do have some cool things in the works! Stay tuned," the company said to several consumers who enquired about the event.
In a subsequent tweet the company said that "by the way – this doesn't mean it won't happen next year. *wink*"
In September of last year the retailer said it would host its second GAMEfest, and expected around 30,000 attendees. The news isn't surprising given the company's recent financial trouble in the UK and in Australia.
On a slightly related note, GameStop announced that it plans to host its first consumer event – a five-hour, one-day gathering in Texas on August 29.
