Activision Claims Skylanders is a Cash Cow

June 1, 2012 -

If you think Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 made the most money for Activision in the first quarter, then you would be wrong. According to the company the biggest money maker for them in 2012 so far is Skylanders. Because the game encourages players to buy action figures that unlock additional characters and levels, it makes a ton of money they say.

Activision says that this combination of toy and games sales across various platforms has generated more cash than any of their other franchises in the January - April period. Of course, if Activision had prepared for supply and demand in December of last year they would have made a hell of a lot more money. Activision did not reveal just how much money the combination of games and toys made.

"This achievement is incredibly gratifying, and quite an honor for everyone at Activision," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg recently.

Activision will show off (or at least offer more details on) a new Skylanders line next week during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.

Re: Activision Claims Skylanders is a Cash Cow

Personally I think Skylanders is a neat idea.

Re: Activision Claims Skylanders is a Cash Cow

there's actually people that buy this crap?  that's news to me.

This is the kind of horse shit I'm afraid a lot of Wii U games are going to attempt with the controller's NFC tech.

Needless to say, I'll have no part of it.

And what exactly would be wrong with it if it's optional?

Re: Activision Claims Skylanders is a Cash Cow

If you can unlock everything in the game without purchasing extra figurines and the like (which as far as I know, you can't do in Skylanders) I'd be totally fine with it.
