Not to be outdone by OnLive's deal with TV manufacturer LG, Cloud gaming service Gaikai has announced a partnership with electronics manufacturer Samsung to bring its streaming game service to select Samsung television models. Samsung's game service powered by Gaikai will offer games from all of the company's publishing partners.
Customers that already own a Samsung Smart TV will get beta invites to the service sometime this month. Samsung is also working with Gaikai to bring the service to select tablets and smart phones, though details on that are pretty thin. Any PC controller with a USB connection will work with Gaikai, but Samsung will be mailing out peripherals that it thinks are the bee's knees with the help of Gaikai.
We will have more on this new service as more information becomes available. Prior to this announcement, the word on the street was that Sony would partner with Gaikai to bring cloud gaming services to either current or next-generation Sony consoles. Maybe next year, right?
