Electronic Arts has confirmed that the beta for Battlefield 4 will take place sometime in the fall of 2013 – we assume prior to its release shortly thereafter (in time for the 2013 holiday shopping season). As is the new custom with publishers, getting the privilege of testing an unfinished product will be part of a pre-order bonus. Access to the Battlefield 4 beta will be a pre-order bonus included with the early purchase of Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition. Anyone who pre-orders the game set for release on October 23, will get exclusive access to the Battlefield 4 beta when it launches.
In a note on the official Battlefield site, EA also assured fans that things will continue to be developed for Battlefield 3 including special content for Battlefield 3 Premium players who plunked down close to $60 to get access to extra in-game perks and early access to all the upcoming expansions:
"Even with billions of bullets fired and millions of games played, we know the Battlefield 3 story is still just the beginning," the open letter reads. "As ever, we are humbled by the community's response to the game, and couldn't be happier with the feedback we have received to Battlefield 3 Premium. With the Back to Karkand and Close Quarters expansion packs already out, Armored Kill around the corner, and End Game and Aftermath still on the horizon, we're looking forward to many more hours of gameplay with you, and can't wait to see the stories you will tell through Battlelog and player created videos."
Hopefully by the time Battlefield 4 beta rolls around EA will have tweaked its digital distribution service Origin to be less of a pain to use.
