Rumor: Bethesda Acquires S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series Games Rights

Bethesda has no comment on a rumor circulating this morning that it purchased the game rights to the popular action game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The rumor was started by Ukrainian blogger Sergey Galyonkin, who cited a "very reliable source" close to the situation. The reason that many media outlets have run with this particular rumor is because Galyonkin has proven to be a reliable source himself in the past when it comes to things GSC Gameworld-related. He predicted that trouble within the studio before it became public earlier in the year.

Galyonkin went on say that Bethesda only bought the rights to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., while GSC founder Sergei Grigorovich has retained the rights to create books, films, and other merchandise based on the franchise.

Bethesda had no comment on the story, and while Galyonkin's headline for the post inferred that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 project had been "picked up" by Bethesda, the text of his article didn't seem to indicate that fact.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.

Ok, just to update with gamepolitics, Joe from Official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. used reliable sources he has, and the rumor turned out to be false. So Bethesda will NOT be making S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, it's still completely up to Grigorovich on what will become of the series. He really should just hand the rights over to Vostok games, that would make everyone happy! They are the only ones that really know how to make S.T.A.L.K.E.R. because they are the team that did it

Wow Gamepolitics, this rumor is quite old and has already been found to be false. Joe Mullin (@joewillburn) of Vostok games already proved that these rumors are false and the rights still indeed belong to Grigorovich. You can go ask him yourself on his twitter or on the Official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. page on facebook
