Minecraft PC Sells Over 7 million Copies To-Date

According to a tweet from Mojang business developer Daniel Kaplan, the PC version of the company's ultra popular world-building, Zombie fighting game Minecraft has sold over 7 million copies since its launch.

"More than 7 million Minecraft (pc) copies sold!" Kaplan tweeted today.

This news is yet another indicator that Minecraft is going to make Mojang and its creator Markus 'Notch' Persson twice as much money as it did in 2011.

Last week it was revealed that the Xbox 360 version of the game was selling roughly 17,000 copies a day, raking around $340,000 in revenue for the company every 24 hours. The game also broke the record for the fastest-selling Xbox Live game on its release day in May.

Persson is currently working on a deck-building tactical role-playing game called Scrolls, which is close to the start of its closed alpha phase.

Correction: Mojang is currently working on Scrolls, its development headed by Jeb, not Notch (Jeb has also taken over most Minecraft development going forward).  Notch himself is working on 0x10c.

Also, cool that Minecraft is doing well, but I'm not convinced that reporting every new sales milestone for it nearly a year after the 1.0 launch is really newsworthy here.

I bought 2 copies of it back in alpha, $10 each. Best investment ever.

Almost 2 years later, my wife, both kids, and I keep playing it almost daily.
