Funcom Changes Development Focus

August 28, 2012 -

Funcom has indicated that it plans to make smaller games that don't have as much upfront costs or long development cycles. The company came to this conclusion after the disappointing performance of its latest game The Secret World, according to this Gamasutra report. The first game to focus on this new development model will be a free-to-play title based on LEGO's Minifigures toys. According to the report that game will take about 18 months to develop.

The report goes on to say that Funcom wants to create games that are more gameplay- and player-driven like League of Legends, World of Tanks, and Minecraft. It also wants to move towards creating multi-platform properties that offer flexible business models.

Given that its last two products - The Secret World and Age of Conan failed to deliver the results the company expected, creating smaller, more focused properties is a logical step...
