Kindle Fire Has Sold Out, Claims Amazon

The Kindle Fire has literally sold out, according to Amazon, and the Android-based device won't see a new production run. The company said that those who want a Kindle Fire but can't find it at retail will have to wait until later this year when Amazon releases a new version of the device. The device was originally released in November of last year and did pretty well by Amazon's own accounting.

Rumors suggest that Amazon will reveal a 7- and 10-inch Kindle Fire replacement at a flashy event in Santa Monica, California next month. Given the timing, those in the sector believe new Fire devices could be ready just in time for Christmas.

On a related note, Amazon today claimed that Kindle Fire has captured 22 percent of tablet sales in the U.S. This is the first time the company has released anything close to sales numbers for the device, though some doubt the validity of those figures..
