Based on EA's own internal estimates, sell-through for Madden NFL 13 was up 8 percent year-over-year on console platforms with more than 1.65 million units sold in week one (Aug. 28-Sept. 3) to mark what the company calls its best start ever on this console generation. Last week, EA announced that Madden NFL 13 had set a new release-day record on current generation consoles as well.
EA also highlighted the fact that there was a 31 percent increase in the number of online games played year over year with more than 24 million contests recorded in the first week of release. EA says that the time played online is equivalent to 47,000 NFL regular seasons in seven days. On Labor Day alone, an average of 3,000 Madden NFL 13 games were started every minute. In addition, Daily Average User (DAU) rates on HD consoles increased 14 percent over last year, breaking previous franchise records.
Other milestones include 1.4 million fans who connected online last week, more than 702K unique visitors to the enhanced Madden Ultimate Team mode, more than 2.6 million packs opened and competed in more than 2.2 million challenges, and more than 1.3 million unique visitors to Madden NFL Facebook page and 450K Madden mentions on Twitter.
