USA Today's Game Hunters Shuts Down

September 12, 2012 -

Mike Snyder and Brett Molina wrote their last post on the USA Today-hosted game blog, Game Hunters this morning.

As the publication celebrates its 30th anniversary and prepares for a redesign it looks like the popular and award winning blog is being shut down.

Game Hunters has been a popular daily destination for gamers for three and a half years, but Mike and Brett aren't going anywhere... More from their last post on Game Hunters:

In case you haven't heard, USA TODAY is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a massive redesign of the newspaper, website and mobile platforms.

The bad news is Game Hunters won't be a part of that plan, so this will be our final post. The good news is our coverage of video games isn't going anywhere. We'll continue to cover the industry's most interesting stories, as well as review the latest games (such as Borderlands 2 next week) and offer a peek into what's coming in the future (Wii U, anyone?). Readers can find them at gaming.usatoday.com.

It's been an incredible run. The support we've received from readers over the course of Game Hunters' run has been overwhelming. We appreciate your feedback and your involvement with this community.

We wish Mike and Brett the best of luck and encourage you to continue reading their work about games at gaming.usatoday.com.

a massive redesign of the newspaper, website and mobile platforms.

"Redesign" in the newspaper industry means "paywall."  Saw some statistic not too long ago that 20% of all newspapers sites have a paywall in place.  If I had to guess, no one would pay to read a gaming blog.
