This shouldn't come as too much of a shock to anyone: Guild Wars 2 has managed to sell two million copies in its first two weeks of availability. The numbers come from publisher NCsoft who also said that the game has hit the peak concurrent user milestone of 400,000 users at one time.
The game launched on August 28 and physical retail copies were sold out, but developer ArenaNet had to temporarily halt online sales after just two days fearing that it did not have enough servers to deal with the load. The company has since deployed more servers and on September 10 it resumed online sales.
We expect that the recent reinstatement of online sales will further boost sales numbers in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned.
While Guild Wars 2 has had good fortune at retail the game itself has suffered a few bumps in the road including early user bans for inappropriate language and usernames, and it has been the target of hackers and phishing schemes. Still the MMO is proving to be a big success for the company and its momentum shows no signs of slowing in the short term…
