According to analysis by Gamasutra columnist and blogger Ryan Langley, the Xbox Live Arcade version is almost as popular as its PC and Mac counterpart in terms of sales. According to the analysis Mojang's popular world-building game for Xbox Live Arcade is currently selling between 40 – 60,000 copies every week.
By the end of November, the Minecraft for Xbox Live Arcade had sold 4,476,904 copies. It is also currently ranked as the third most played game on Xbox Live, right after such heavyweight titles as Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Halo 4.
No doubt Mojang is delighted with these figures – particularly on a platform where it was probably a lot harder to develop and get approval from Microsoft than it was on the PC or Mac. It will be interesting to see how the Raspberry Pi version of the game does in terms of downloads because it will be available for free…
